Elmo Kennedy O’Connor (born January 11, 1994), known professionally as Bones (often stylized as BONES), is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from Howell, Michigan. He is also the founder of the music collective TeamSESH. O’Connor first started making music at the age of nine after his father purchased an iMac G3. He would download hip-hop instrumentals from SoundClick and use the computer’s built-in microphone to record himself rapping, though it wasn’t until 2010 at the age of 16 that he would start releasing music online under the alias “[email protected] Kid”. After moving to Los Angeles, O’Connor was able to connect with other artists he met online including Xavier Wulf, Chris Travis, and Eddy Baker, who at the time were members of the now semi-disbanded Raider Klan. He later officially changed his stage name to Bones in 2012. On July 4, 2012, O’Connor released his eponymous debut album under the alias “BONES”. From 2012 to 2014 he released 12 albums before gaining journalistic attention for his 2014 album TeenWitch, which gained controversy for its themes based around the Columbine High School Massacre. The album following TeenWitch, titled Garbage was released on June 9, 2014 and was the first of O’Connors albums to gain the attention of major music publications such as Complex Magazine and The Fader who labelled the project as “massive” and “boundary-pushing.” In April 2014, O’Connor, along with TeamSESH producer GREAF formed “surrenderdorothy”, a side project that is notably less focused on rap, with a stronger focus on acoustic guitar and singing, with stylistic similarities to indie rock and emo rap. Although O’Connor does experiment with this style in his solo work, surrenderdorothy features it much more predominantly. Since 2014, the duo have released 6 EP’s as surrenderdorothy. I'm in hell. Bones (originally “Th@ Kid”) is a rapper from Michigan who moved to L.A in 2011 to pursue a career in music. Below are his official mixtapes, collabs, and related albums, including releases from the surrenderdorothy side-project with producer Greaf among others. Bones considers Youngdumbfuck (2012) his first official release, which is where this discography begins. officially. That said, we're actively searching for Bones's earlier releases, and have listed the ones we've found below. Please get in touch if you have access to any of the following mixtapes, which are missing or incomplete as of this posting: Bored of Education , Team Sesh , Strictly For The RATZ , FOOL$GOLD or any others that might be missing from this page. Download links to good Bones albums? Hi guys, I like Bones, or at least the very few spare songs I heard, and I'd like to know If you could lend me some download links to your favourite albums? Thank you so much, peace! https://bones.sesh.team I’d recommend SKINNY , Banshee , USELESS. or you could download them all and enjoy. Thanks a lot homie ❤ All of his albums are good My favorites are unrendered, paidprogramming2 & 1, And powder. Strongly recommend TeenWitch, probably his most controversial album. Took heavy influence from the Columbine High School shooting with samples from the 911 calls and just lyrics relating to being at the school during the shooting or how the police did their jobs horribly trying to stop the shooting. Overall pretty good, filled with self hate and the last 2 songs are extremely calming. Can find it at the link coffinfleet posted..

Racial Gatekeeping in Country & Hip-Hop Music By Cervanté Pope Student ID #: 947767021 Portland State University Pope 2 Introduction In mass communication, gatekeeping refers to how information is edited, shaped and controlled in efforts to construct a “social reality” (Shoemaker, Eichholz, Kim, & Wrigley, 2001). Gatekeeping has expanded into other fields throughout the years, with its concepts growing more and more easily applicable in many other aspects of life. One way it presents itself is in regard to racial inclusion and equality, and despite the headway we’ve seemingly made as a society, we are still lightyears away from where we need to be. Because of this, the concept of cultural property has become even more paramount, as a means for keeping one’s cultural history and identity preserved.

  • Musical Identity in the Contemporary World
Musical Identity in the Contemporary World Thematic Content Analysis about the Creation of Musical Identity among Emo Rappers Student Name: Laura Emrichová Student Number: 507994 Supervisor: Arno van der Hoeven MSc Media and Creative Industries Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University Rotterdam Master's Thesis July 1, 2019 Abstract Music plays an essential part of our everyday lives and often serves as a representation of people’s tastes, values and beliefs. Musical identity illustrates the combination of these aspects among a particular group of people who engage in the same style of music and provides the basis for studying the development of music and its impact on the society. In the early 2010’s a number of adolescents independently shared their beats on the streaming service of SoundCloud and created a new sub- genre of emo rap. Emo rap has a unique aesthetic of emotional lyrics with a dark and depressive character, sparking controversy and was the fastest growing genre of 2018 on Spotify. That is why, this research is set out to explore the construction of musical identity of emo rap, by taking a closer look at the artists’ lifestyle and the societal issues they are concerned with. It is expected that musical identity is closely connected to the lifestyle choices these adolescents make and how they present their ideas about the current state of the society. The sub-genre emo rap has not been academically researched before and the aim of this study is to contribute to the existing literature about musical identity with this contemporary sub-genre and to explore the youth development in the 21st century.

  • Envisioning a Compulsory-Licensing System for Digital Samples Through Emergent Technologies
SABBAGH IN PRINTER FINAL (DO NOT DELETE) 9/16/2019 11:13 PM ENVISIONING A COMPULSORY-LICENSING SYSTEM FOR DIGITAL SAMPLES THROUGH EMERGENT TECHNOLOGIES CHRISTOPHER R. SABBAGH† ABSTRACT Despite the rapid development of modern creative culture, federal copyright law has remained largely stable, steeped in decades of tradition and history. For the most part, copyright finds strength in its stability, surviving the rise of recorded music, software programs, and, perhaps the most disruptive technology of our generation, the internet. On the other hand, copyright’s resistance to change can be detrimental, as with digital sampling. Although sampling can be a highly creative practice, and although copyright purports to promote creativity, current copyright law often interferes with the practice of sampling. The result is a largely broken system: Those who can legally sample are usually able to do so because they are wealthy, influential, or both. Those who cannot legally sample often sample illegally. Many scholars have suggested statutory solutions to this problem. Arguably, the most workable solutions are rooted in compulsory licenses. Unfortunately, implementing these solutions is practically difficult. Two recent developments invite us to revisit these proposals. First, with the passage of the Music Modernization Act (“MMA”), Congress has evinced a willingness to “modernize” parts of copyright law. Second, emergent technologies—from the MMA’s musical-works database to blockchain to smart contracts—can be leveraged to more easily implement a compulsory-licensing solution. This time around, rather than simply discuss why this solution is favorable, this Note will focus on how it can be implemented. Copyright © 2019 Christopher R.
