THE GIRL WHO CRIED MONSTER Goosebumps - 08 R.L. Stine (An Undead Scan v1.5) 1 1 I love to scare my little brother, Randy. I tell him scary stories about monsters until he begs me to stop. And I’m always teasing him by pretending to see monsters everywhere. I guess that’s why no one believed me the day I saw a real monster. I guess that’s why no one believed me until it was too late, and the monster was right in my own house. But I’d better not tell the ending of my story at the beginning. My name is Lucy Dark. I’m twelve. I live with my brother, Randy, who is six, and my parents in a medium-sized house in a medium-sized town called Timberland Falls. I don’t know why it’s called Timberland Falls. There are a few forests outside of town, but no one cuts the trees down for timber. And there aren’t any falls. So, why Timberland Falls? It’s a mystery. We have a redbrick house at the end of our street. There’s a tall, overgrown hedge that runs along the side of our house and separates our yard from the Killeens’ yard next door. Dad’s always talking about how he should trim the hedge, but he never does. We have a small front yard and a pretty big back yard with a lot of tall, old trees in it. There’s an old sassafras tree in the middle of the yard.

LateRooms.com - Alice in Chains ready to rock Turin Submitted by: LateRooms Ltd Tuesday, 4 May 2010 Seattle grunge legends Alice in Chains are set to play in Turin this summer, a gig that could provide the perfect opportunity for guests at Turin hotels (http://www.laterooms.com/en/k13666314_turin-hotels.aspx) to dust off their ripped jeans and enjoy an evening of quality alternative music. The band is set to play Colonia Sonora on Wednesday June 9th, with founding member Jerry Cantrell still rocking away alongside William DuVall, who joined the band in 2005 after the death of original vocalist Layne Staley. Fans in the crowd may be pleased to hear that if they are enthusiastic enough they may be treated to an extended set, with the band revealing on their blog that this was the case at a recent gig in St Augustine, Florida. "On a night like tonight, when the crowd is great and the band is a little extra pumped up, they add a song to the encore," they remarked. Attendees can expect to hear songs from the group's back a catalogue of hits, which stretches over more than 25 years and includes hit albums such as their eponymous Alice in Chains record and Jar of Flies. This week, the band confirmed on their official website that they are set to headline Blackdiamondskye in Autumn, with Mastodon and the Deftones providing support. Entrance to the show costs €34.50 (£29.80), with tickets available online. To make the most of the Alice in Chains concert – you should consider booking your hotel Torino (http://www.laterooms.com/it/k13666314_hotel-torino.aspx) to avoid disappointment.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • Wernecke, Livingston Experiment
LIVINGSTON WERNECKE: AN IDOL IN YUKON MINING ANNALS and THE HOUSE OF THE GUGGENHEIMS by Jane Gaffin “The pioneers did not read history; they made it...In developing the mineral wealth of a continent and building a great industry things do not ‘just happen’; they are brought about by men who have the wit to see and the courage to do. Our predecessors were men with these qualities. They fought great battles against heavy odds and they have left us a great heritage. Many of them we cannot know in person for they have ‘gone over the range’, but we do well to know what they did and how they did it.” -- H. Foster Bain, New York, June, 1932, Excerpt from the Introduction to A History of American Mining by T.A. Rickard. Livingston Wernecke (1883 - 1941) (Photo by Ted Wernecke) - 2 - Charles Theodore (C.T.) and Jane Wernecke were by far the prime influences in nurturing and shaping the young minds of their two sons. To the best of their abilities, the parents taught Livingston and Chauncy morals and manners. They guided the boys toward the path they wanted their sons to trod and trusted they would remain as sure-footed as a Montana pony and journey through life as straight as the topography would allow. Besides parents, everybody needs non-related mentors, too. Three wise men were dominant in awakening and developing Livingston’s career goals and guiding him through the three main stages of his life. One man was Robert Statham Williams who entered Livingston’s world during his formative years.

  • MTO 17.4: Temperley, Scalar Shift
Volume 17, Number 4, December 2011 Copyright © 2011 Society for Music Theory Scalar Shift in Popular Music David Temperley NOTE: The examples for the (text-only) PDF version of this item are available online at: http://www.mtosmt.org/issues/mto.11.17.4/mto.11.17.4.temperley.php KEYWORDS: rock, popular music, scales, modality, expression ABSTRACT: Existing approaches to scales in popular music do not do justice to the variety of scale collections that are used or to their expressive effects. In this article I propose a novel approach to this problem, focusing particularly on shifts of scale within songs. The idea is simple: The scale-degree content of a song (or a section of a song) tends to occupy a certain region on the “line of fifths,” the circle of fifths stretched out infinitely in both directions. Moving outside this region —especially if the move is emphasized (by rhythmic, textural, or other means) and involves multiple pitch classes—creates a sense of scalar shift. Scalar shifts can be used in a variety of ways: to delineate and reinforce sectional boundaries; to convey a change in mood or situation, simply through the shift itself, or more specifically through sharpward or flatward motion on the line of fifths; to create a momentary effect of surprise or disorientation; or to construct more complex trajectories of tension and resolution. Received June 2011 1. Scales in Popular Music [1.1] The current study is an attempt to explain certain phenomena in the perception and composition of popular music— phenomena that have puzzled and intrigued me for many years, and that do not seem well accounted for by current theories.
