Joshua Hong We love certain dates! When these dates come to and this is of utmost importance. our minds we will connect them with certain public To help us appreciate that Christmas is about our holidays. For us in Peninsula Malaysia, when we think relationship with God, let me draw your attention to of 31st August we think about “Hari Merdeka.” When John 3:16 where we note God’s thoughts towards us we think of 16th September we think about Malaysia human beings. It begins with: “For God so loved the Day. These are significant dates in our country’s history. world…” Here we are reminded about God’s love. These two dates are public holidays! Happy days! When we think of 25th December we think about God loves the world, that is, all the people who inhabit Christmas. This year Christmas will fall on Monday. For this earth. So we can declare that, “God loves me,” many it will be wonderful news as they can enjoy a “God loves you” and “God loves everyone.” Because long weekend! Families will be making holiday plans! God loves us, He wants us to enter into a personal Christmas is thus welcomed as just another holiday relationship with Him. He wants us to experience His season! love; He wants us to enter into a blessed relationship with Him. He wants us to know Him personally. This makes me wonder, “How do people view or think about Christmas? I looked up one blog, “Day But the loving God knows that on our own we cannot Translations.” It raised this question: “What is Christmas come into that blessed personal relationship with to other people?” Its findings are as follows: Him. Reading on in John 3:16 we note: It is to remember Jesus’ birth and to care for, share “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only and give to people who do not have homes. Focus upon God’s love demonstrated the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever through the sending of His Son, Jesus, to die on the believes in him should not perish but have eternal cross for the sins of the whole world. Do not just look life.” at the CRIB. Look at the CROSS. Look at CHRIST. We have noted God’s love and we have noted God’s Indeed, “Christ-mas” reminds us about CHRIST. It is not action. CHRIST gives us the response is important for our eternal destiny, that is, gift of everlasting life. “Christ-mas” reminds us about whether we will be separated from God forever or we mankind that “MAN ARE SINNERS.” Claus cannot solve will be enjoying His presence forever. the problem of our sins but CHRIST can. As we think about God’s love and His action, we can make the following possible responses: 1. “I don’t even believe in the existence of God. So it doesn’t matter to me, who God is! You may speak about His great love for me, so what? The love of a non-existent God means nothing to me!” 2. “I don’t care what He has done. God may call me a sinner. But He is non-existent, so it doesn’t matter what He calls me! He may have sent Jesus to die on the cross so that I can receive cleansing for my sins by the precious blood of Jesus. God’s loving action means nothing to me.” Well we have our right to reject God’s love and the demonstration of His love. John 3:16 said that the So as you celebrate Christmas this year, may you consequence of those who reject what God has have the right perspective of what Christmas is all done is they will “perish.” What this means is that about and also the right perspective about who we you will be separated from God’s presence forever! a re. “To perish” doesn’t mean that we are annihilated. It means that we will be in a place of torment and To have a meaningful Christmas holiday this year, do eternal suffering.
