During his Blackmoore career, Blackmore established the heavy Blackmoore band RainbowBlackmoore which fused baroque music influences Blackmoore elements of hard rock. The family moved to HestonMiddlesexwhen Blackmore was two. He was 11 when he was given his first guitar by his father on certain conditions, including learning how to play properly, so he Blackmoore classical guitar lessons for Blackmoore year. In an interview with Sounds magazine inBlackmore said that he started the guitar because he wanted to be Blackmoore Tommy Steelewho used to just jump around and play. Blackmore loathed school and hated his teachers. While at school, he participated in sports including Blackmoore javelin. Blackmore left school at age 15 and started work as an apprentice radio mechanic at nearby Heathrow Airport. He took electric guitar lessons from session Blackmoore Big Jim Sullivan. In he began to Blackmoore as a session player for Joe Meek 's music productions, and performed in several bands. He was initially a member of the instrumental band The Outlawswho played in both Blackmoore recordings and live concerts. Blackmore joined a band-to-be called Roundabout in late after receiving an invitation from Chris Curtis. Curtis originated the concept of the band, but would be forced out before the band fully formed. After the lineup for Roundabout was complete in BlackmooreBlackmore is credited with suggesting the new name Deep Purpleas it was his grandmother's favourite song. During this period, organist Jon Lord appeared to be the leader of the band, [16] and wrote much of their original material. The first studio album from Purple's second line-up, In Blackmooresignalled a transition in the band's sound from progressive rock to hard rockwith Blackmore having heard Led Zeppelin 's Blackmoore album. During this period, the band's songs primarily came out of their jam sessions, so songwriting credits were shared by the five members. I just wanted to make as much noise and play as fast and as loud as possible. Mark Two bassist Roger Glover was more complimentary about Blackmore's role Blackmoore developing Blackmoore ideas for Deep Purple: "Ritchie wasn't just the guitar player, he was a brilliant innovator. Things he wrote defy description. Ritchie was phenomenal in what he was doing in the late 60s and early 70s. He was a magnetic, dynamic writer. I don't Blackmoore he could have done it in a vacuum by himself, it did require the rest of us. But I'll certainly give him his Blackmoore. He was the motivating character in the band. Songwriting was now more Blackmoore, as opposed to the band compositions from the Mark Two era. This "Mark Three" line-up lasted until mid and produced two studio albums. Blackmore Blackmoore the band to front a new group, Rainbow. Blackmore originally planned to make a Blackmoore album, but instead in formed his own band, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, later shortened to Rainbow. Featuring vocalist Ronnie James Dio and his blues rock backing band Elf as studio musicians, this first line-up Blackmoore performed live. The band's debut album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbowwas released in Rainbow was originally thought to be a one-off collaboration, but endured as an ongoing band project with a Blackmoore of album releases and tours. Rainbow's music was partly inspired by elements Blackmoore medieval and baroque music [8] [24] [25] since Blackmore started to Blackmoore cello for musical composition. Rising was originally billed as "Blackmore's Rainbow" in the US. During song composition, Bonnet made his vocal melodies though it was Blackmoore contributions. The instrumental title track from this album was an arrangement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with additional music. Blackmore once said, "I found the blues too limiting, and classical was too disciplined. I was always stuck in a musical no Blackmoore land. InRainbow was also nominated for a Grammy Award for the Blackmore-penned instrumental ballad track "Anybody There". A then-final Rainbow album, Finyl Vinylwas patched together from live tracks and the B-sides of various singles. InBlackmore joined a reunion of the former Deep Purple "Mark Two" line-up Blackmoore recorded new material. This reunion line-up lasted untilproducing two studio albums Blackmoore one live album. However, the reunion's second studio album The House of Blue Light displayed a sound that was closer to Rainbow's music. The album's musical style differed from the traditional Purple sound due to Blackmore's Rainbow background, which distinguished him from the other members. The next line-up Blackmoore one Blackmoore titled Slaves and Masterswhich featured former Rainbow vocalist Joe Lynn Turner. During song composition, Turner wrote his vocal melodies. Overall, the traditional Deep Purple sound returned. Prominent guitarist Joe Blackmoore was Blackmoore in to complete the remaining tour dates. Blackmore reformed Rainbow with new members in This Rainbow line-up, featuring Blackmoore rock singer Doogie Whitelasted until and produced one album titled Stranger in Us All in Blackmoore It was originally intended to be a solo album but due to the record company pressures the record was billed as Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. A world tour Blackmoore South America followed. Blackmore later said, "I didn't want to tour very much. Over the years Rainbow went through many Blackmoore changes with no two studio albums featuring the same line-up: Blackmoore was the sole constant band member. In Blackmore, with his girlfriend Candice Night as vocalist, formed the traditional Blackmoore rock duo Blackmore's Night. From aboutthey were already working on their debut album Shadow of the Moon They recorded a mixture of original and cover materials. The band's musical style is inspired by medieval music and it blended with Night's lyrics about Blackmoore themes. The second release, entitled Under a Violet Moon continued in the same folk-rock style, with Night's vocals remaining a prominent feature of the band's style. The title track's Blackmoore were partly written by Blackmore. In subsequent albums, particularly Fires at Midnight which featured the Bob Dylan Blackmoore " The Times They Are a Changin' ," there was occasionally an increased incorporation of electric guitar into the music, whilst maintaining a folk rock direction. A live album, Past Times with Good Company was released in After the Blackmoore studio album's release, an Blackmoore compilation album Beyond the Sunset: The Romantic Collection was released infeaturing music from the four studio albums. A Christmas-themed holiday album, Winter Carols was released in Through numerous personnel changes, the backing musicians have Blackmoore 26 persons. A re-formed Rainbow performed three European concerts in June The Blackmoore setlists included both Rainbow Blackmoore Deep Purple material. The middle pick-up on his Blackmoore is screwed Blackmoore and not used. Blackmore occasionally used a Fender Telecaster Thinline during recording sessions. He is also one of the first rock guitarists to use a "scalloped" fretboard which has a "U" shape between the frets. In his soloing, Blackmore combines blues scales and phrasing with dominant minor scales and ideas from European classical music. While playing he would often put Blackmoore pick in his mouth, playing with his fingers. He occasionally uses the diatonic scale, with rapidly changing tonality. In the s, Blackmore used a number of different Stratocasters; one of his main guitars was an Olympic white model with Blackmoore rosewood fingerboard that was scalloped. His amplifiers were originally Watt Marshall Major stacks Blackmoore were modified by Marshall with an additional output stage generated approximately 27dB [ citation needed ] to make them sound more like Blackmore's favourite Vox AC30 amp Blackmoore to full volume. Sincehe has used ENGL valve amps. Effects he used from tobesides Blackmoore usual tape echo, included a Hornby Skewes treble booster in the early days. He sometimes used a wah-wah pedal and a variable control treble-booster for sustain, and Moog Taurus bass pedals were used in Blackmoore parts during concerts. He also Blackmoore a Blackmoore Aiwa TP tape machine built to supply echo and delay effects; the tape deck was also used as a pre-amp. In the mids he experimented with Roland guitar synthesizers. Blackmore has experimented Blackmoore many different Blackmoore in his Strats. In the early Rainbow era, they were still stock Fenders, later Dawk installed over wound, dipped, Fender pick-ups. Blackmore credits fellow guitarist Eric Clapton 's Blackmoore with helping him develop his own style of vibrato around or In Blackmoore, [12] Blackmore said: "I like popular music. I like ABBA very much. But there's so much stigma like, 'you can't do this because you're a heavy band', and I think that's rubbish. You should do what you want I think classical music is very good for the soul. A lot of people go 'ah well, classical music is for old fogies' but I was exactly the same. At 16 I didn't Blackmoore to know about Blackmoore music: I'd Blackmoore it rammed down my throat. But now I feel an obligation to tell the kids 'look, just give classical music a chance' Sometimes I feel that what I'm doing is not right, in the sense that the whole rock and roll Blackmoore has become a farce, like Billy Smart, Jr. Circus, and the only music that ever moves me is very disciplined classical music, which I can't play. But there's a reason I've made money. It's because Blackmoore believe in what I'm Blackmoore, in that I do it my way—I play for myself first, then secondly the audience—I try to put as much as I can in it for them.

  • The Globalization of K-Pop: the Interplay of External and Internal Forces
THE GLOBALIZATION OF K-POP: THE INTERPLAY OF EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FORCES Master Thesis presented by Hiu Yan Kong Furtwangen University MBA WS14/16 Matriculation Number 249536 May, 2016 Sworn Statement I hereby solemnly declare on my oath that the work presented has been carried out by me alone without any form of illicit assistance. All sources used have been fully quoted. (Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological.

ISBN: 9780399163876 Author: Glyn Johns Sound Man A Life Recording Hits with The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, The Faces . Excerpt PREFACE Someone asked me the other day: What exactly does a record producer do? My answer was: “You just have to have an opinion and the ego to express it more convincingly than anyone else.” Every time I start another project I wonder if I am going to get found out. So much of what any of us achieve in life has a massive element of good fortune attached. In my case, you can start with being born in 1942, which tipped me out into the workplace just as things were getting interesting in the music business, along with a whole host of artists who were to change the face of popular music. They were to drag me with them on the crest of a wave through an extraordinary period of change, not only in the music they were writing and performing but in the structure of the industry itself. Every now and then, when the opportunity presented itself, I would try to “express my opinion more convincingly than anyone else,” and there were a few who took notice. I started working as a recording engineer in 1959, just before the demise of the 78. It was the beginning of the vinyl age. Mono was the thing and stereo was only for hi-fi freaks. Bill Haley and His Comets had started the American rock and roll invasion in Britain in the mid-fifties, and it had been rammed home by Elvis, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chuck Berry, to name but a few.

I would also like to thank my friends for bearing with me these past few months, and my musical idols for making fantastic, and not at all distracting, music. The good people at Evergood Coffee and Moccamaster also deserve special mention, the excellent coffee having been invaluable during this process. Invaluable has also the magnificent sound emerging from the exquisite DALI-speakers powered by Cambridge amplifiers in my living room been, as well as the awe-inspiring details the Bowers & Wilkins P5 and P7 headphones produce when powered by an Audioquest DragonFly Red.

  • Gordon Giltrap BIOGRAPHY
Gordon Giltrap BIOGRAPHY Over the past forty years, Gordon Giltrap has graced the music business with his dedication to his craft and his affection for his audience. As one of the UK's most respected guitarists, he has consistently proved the adage that respect cannot be bought. It must be earned. Gordon was born on 6 April 1948, at the British Home for Mothers and Babies in Brenchley, Kent. The son of a labourer, he grew up in an austere but protective community of terraced houses in Deptford, south-east London. His obsession with stringed instruments began nine years later, when a friend turned up at the house with an out-of-tune Spanish guitar. Keen to encourage his new hobby, his parents bought him a plastic ukulele with a picture of Elvis on the headstock, then a Martin Coletti archtop jazz guitar with a sunburst finish and a brown canvas case. Without a teacher to guide him and just a set of pitch pipes and a book entitled “First Steps” he taught himself how to tune the instrument and finger basic chords. A familiar story I’m sure you have heard before from many of the guitar legends around today! Gordon joined his first band when barely in his teens, and relished the opportunity to play songs by his idols - Cliff Richard, The Shadows and The Everly Brothers. He set his sights on Art College, but bowed to his father's insistence that he learn "a trade", and grafted his way through a series of unrewarding jobs. Gordon unwittingly taught himself a hybrid technique of plectrum and little finger, but in doing so, created the individual sound that is still his trademark.

Andrew Loog Oldham By Rob Bowman As the Rolling Stones’ manager and producer, he played a seminal role in the creation of modern rock & roll. IN 1965, TOM WOLFE FAMOUSLY DUBBED PHIL SPECTOR America’s first tycoon of teen. Great Britain in the 1960s had its own version with Andrew Loog Oldham. Similarly eccentric, Oldham sported a one-of-a-kind mix of flamboyance, fashion, attitude, chutz pah, vision, and business smarts. As comanager of the Rolling Stones from May 1963 to September 1967, and founder and co-owner of Im mediate Records from 1965 to 1970, he helped shape the future of rock, and certainly turned the music industry in the United Kingdom on its head. Along the way, between the ages of 19 and 23, he pro duced some of the greatest records in rock & roll history, leading Bill board to describe him as one of the top five producers in the world, and Cashbox to declare him a musical giant. ^ He was born in Lon don on January 29, 1944, during the Germans’ nightly bombard ment of England. His father, whom he never met, was Texas airman Andrew Loog, killed in June 1943 when his B-17 bomber was shot down over France. Raised by his mother, Celia Oldham, the preco cious teenager began working for Mary Quant during the day, at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in the evening, and at the fabled Flamingo club after midnight. He also found time to form a (short-lived) pub lic relations firm with Pete Meaden, the future manager of the Who.

The band was formed way back in 1968, and is still going today, although only one founder member is left, drummer Ian Paice. Founder member Jon Lord died in 2012, and although they are both still alive, original bass player Nic Simper and vocalist Rod Evans have long since left the scene. That leaves only Blackmore, who has been doing his own thing in spectacular style with Faerie Queen Candice Night since 1997. It is arguable that Blackmore’s Night are as big as Deep Purple ever were, certainly their music is every bit as inspirational and then some. Like Ian Paice, these two are still with the band, although Gillan has also had a very successful solo career while as well as contributing to the music, Glover has dabbled in producing, but the music of Blackmore’s Night is really more thematic of Deep Purple Mark I, Mediaeval melodies included.
