The Globalization of K-Pop: the Interplay of External and Internal Forces
THE GLOBALIZATION OF K-POP: THE INTERPLAY OF EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FORCES Master Thesis presented by Hiu Yan Kong Furtwangen University MBA WS14/16 Matriculation Number 249536 May, 2016 Sworn Statement I hereby solemnly declare on my oath that the work presented has been carried out by me alone without any form of illicit assistance. All sources used have been fully quoted. (Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological. -

Glyn Johns Sound Man a Life Recording Hits With
ISBN: 9780399163876 Author: Glyn Johns Sound Man A Life Recording Hits with The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, The Faces . Excerpt PREFACE Someone asked me the other day: What exactly does a record producer do? My answer was: “You just have to have an opinion and the ego to express it more convincingly than anyone else.” Every time I start another project I wonder if I am going to get found out. So much of what any of us achieve in life has a massive element of good fortune attached. In my case, you can start with being born in 1942, which tipped me out into the workplace just as things were getting interesting in the music business, along with a whole host of artists who were to change the face of popular music. They were to drag me with them on the crest of a wave through an extraordinary period of change, not only in the music they were writing and performing but in the structure of the industry itself. Every now and then, when the opportunity presented itself, I would try to “express my opinion more convincingly than anyone else,” and there were a few who took notice. I started working as a recording engineer in 1959, just before the demise of the 78. It was the beginning of the vinyl age. Mono was the thing and stereo was only for hi-fi freaks. Bill Haley and His Comets had started the American rock and roll invasion in Britain in the mid-fifties, and it had been rammed home by Elvis, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chuck Berry, to name but a few. -

I would also like to thank my friends for bearing with me these past few months, and my musical idols for making fantastic, and not at all distracting, music. The good people at Evergood Coffee and Moccamaster also deserve special mention, the excellent coffee having been invaluable during this process. Invaluable has also the magnificent sound emerging from the exquisite DALI-speakers powered by Cambridge amplifiers in my living room been, as well as the awe-inspiring details the Bowers & Wilkins P5 and P7 headphones produce when powered by an Audioquest DragonFly Red. -
Gordon Giltrap BIOGRAPHY
Gordon Giltrap BIOGRAPHY Over the past forty years, Gordon Giltrap has graced the music business with his dedication to his craft and his affection for his audience. As one of the UK's most respected guitarists, he has consistently proved the adage that respect cannot be bought. It must be earned. Gordon was born on 6 April 1948, at the British Home for Mothers and Babies in Brenchley, Kent. The son of a labourer, he grew up in an austere but protective community of terraced houses in Deptford, south-east London. His obsession with stringed instruments began nine years later, when a friend turned up at the house with an out-of-tune Spanish guitar. Keen to encourage his new hobby, his parents bought him a plastic ukulele with a picture of Elvis on the headstock, then a Martin Coletti archtop jazz guitar with a sunburst finish and a brown canvas case. Without a teacher to guide him and just a set of pitch pipes and a book entitled “First Steps” he taught himself how to tune the instrument and finger basic chords. A familiar story I’m sure you have heard before from many of the guitar legends around today! Gordon joined his first band when barely in his teens, and relished the opportunity to play songs by his idols - Cliff Richard, The Shadows and The Everly Brothers. He set his sights on Art College, but bowed to his father's insistence that he learn "a trade", and grafted his way through a series of unrewarding jobs. Gordon unwittingly taught himself a hybrid technique of plectrum and little finger, but in doing so, created the individual sound that is still his trademark. -

Andrew Loog Oldham by Rob Bowman As the Rolling Stones’ Manager and Producer, He Played a Seminal Role in the Creation of Modern Rock & Roll
Andrew Loog Oldham By Rob Bowman As the Rolling Stones’ manager and producer, he played a seminal role in the creation of modern rock & roll. IN 1965, TOM WOLFE FAMOUSLY DUBBED PHIL SPECTOR America’s first tycoon of teen. Great Britain in the 1960s had its own version with Andrew Loog Oldham. Similarly eccentric, Oldham sported a one-of-a-kind mix of flamboyance, fashion, attitude, chutz pah, vision, and business smarts. As comanager of the Rolling Stones from May 1963 to September 1967, and founder and co-owner of Im mediate Records from 1965 to 1970, he helped shape the future of rock, and certainly turned the music industry in the United Kingdom on its head. Along the way, between the ages of 19 and 23, he pro duced some of the greatest records in rock & roll history, leading Bill board to describe him as one of the top five producers in the world, and Cashbox to declare him a musical giant. ^ He was born in Lon don on January 29, 1944, during the Germans’ nightly bombard ment of England. His father, whom he never met, was Texas airman Andrew Loog, killed in June 1943 when his B-17 bomber was shot down over France. Raised by his mother, Celia Oldham, the preco cious teenager began working for Mary Quant during the day, at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in the evening, and at the fabled Flamingo club after midnight. He also found time to form a (short-lived) pub lic relations firm with Pete Meaden, the future manager of the Who. -

The band was formed way back in 1968, and is still going today, although only one founder member is left, drummer Ian Paice. Founder member Jon Lord died in 2012, and although they are both still alive, original bass player Nic Simper and vocalist Rod Evans have long since left the scene. That leaves only Blackmore, who has been doing his own thing in spectacular style with Faerie Queen Candice Night since 1997. It is arguable that Blackmore’s Night are as big as Deep Purple ever were, certainly their music is every bit as inspirational and then some. Most fans regard Deep Purple Mark II as the denitive, https://www.infotextmanuscripts.org/tln/Will%20Candice%20Night%20Join%20Deep%20Purple_-.html 1/3 8/16/2017 Will Candice Night Join Deep Purple? with bass player Roger Glover and vocalist Ian Gillan. Like Ian Paice, these two are still with the band, although Gillan has also had a very successful solo career while as well as contributing to the music, Glover has dabbled in producing, but the music of Blackmore’s Night is really more thematic of Deep Purple Mark I, Mediaeval melodies included.
