PARISLONGCHAMP - 15th September Trainer of the day : Aidan-Patrick O'Brien (408, 404, 501) Jockey of the day : Christophe Soumillon (102, 203, 309, 404, 703) Horse of the day : Sottsass (503) Dark Horse : Zavrinka (303) Race 1 1. AKOYA - Ten time winner from seventeen. Landed a Group I at Deauville in his most recent start last month 2. AL SHAMOOS - Won a Group I at Abu Dhabi in November last year. Not as effective this season but remains hard to rule out 3. GENERAL LADY - Very smart performer at home in Poland but was well beaten in sole start on French soil Summary Only three runners for a 100 000 Euros race !!! (2) AL SHAMOOS has not yet been as good this season as she was last year. However, she finds here a great spot to return to the winners enclosure. The obvious threat to the selection is (1) AKOYA who comes in on the back of a Group I success at Deauville. (3) GENERAL LADY is unlikely to be involved for success. Selections (2) AL SHAMOOS - (1) AKOYA - (3) GENERAL LADY Race 2 1. WAY TO PARIS - Registered a career-best effort when winning the Group II Prix Maurice de Nieuil over 14f at ParisLongchamp mid-July 2. WALDGEIST - Won this race last year. Scored easily in the Prix Ganay before two solid efforts at Ascot in July. Big expectations 3. KISEKI - Top-class performer in Japan whose victories include The 2017 Japanese Saint-Leger. Big player 4. SILVERWAVE - Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner back in 2016. Won a Listed race this year Summary It looks like a two horse race ! (2) WALDGEIST and (3) KISEKI have the same official rating but Andre Fabre's horse seems as good as ever this year and plays at home. He trounced his rivals in this contest last year and is expected to be hard to beat here too. It will take a very fit and game (3) KISEKI to come on top of the selection. Selections (2) WALDGEIST - (3) KISEKI - (1) WAY TO PARIS - (4) SILVERWAVE Race 3 1. RAYON VERT - Competitive on a good day but has a bad draw and will find it hard to make the frame 2. MILLFIELD - Has done nothing of note since winning an identical race over course & distance last April. Must reaffirm 3. ZAVRINKA - Not much room off this current mark. Blinkered for the first time and has a bit to find 4. ZALAMEA - Posted some fair efforts over this course & distance last spring but has gone off the boil since then 5. SONG OF LIFE - Has turned a corner since June. Looks high in the handicap at present but remains hard to rule out 6. SALT LAKE CITY - Won over this course & distance in May. Has been in fine fettle since then. Player 7. FASTIDIOUS - Has not won for over a year but is competitive off current mark and should be respected 8. POST VAR - Very consistent sort since his career debut. Two good runs this term including one at this level. Leading chance 9. DARK AMERICAN - Except for his last run, has enjoyed a very good 2019. Ran too keen last time out and should make amends 10. SANDYSSIME - Won an identical race two starts back but well held last time out and seems high in the handicap at present 11. SHERE CALM - Excellent last two runs in this division but on fibresand. Has a bit to prove over today's course & distance 12. CARLTON CHOICE - Finished third in his last two starts in this class of event. Has a good draw and must be shortlisted 13. A HEAD AHEAD - Winner in this division early July. Has gone cold in two subsequent starts and is unlikely to shine off this current mark 14. WALEC - Disappointed in last start in this division. Has made the frame in two previous outings over course & distance 15. ZIVERI - Four time winner from twenty-six. Blows hot and cold but carries only 53.5 kilos and has Guyon on board 16. GLORIA - Two creditable efforts in this division last spring. Flopped in last two and must reaffirm Summary There is a lot to like about (8) POST VAR who finished a game third on his first start in this division. He has only raced twice this year so is sure to come on from his last run. The consistent (12) CARLTON CHOICE has a good draw and should be able to run close to the pace. He is a serious candidate too. (11) SHERE CALM has a big chance if he is not bothered by the change of surface. Selections (8) POST VAR - (12) CARLTON CHOICE - (11) SHERE CALM - (9) DARK AMERICAN - (6) SALT LAKE CITY - (3) ZAVRINKA - (7) FASTIDIOUS - (15) ZIVERI Race 4 1. LIGNE D'OR - Three time winner from nine and that includes a Group III last year over 10.5f. Needs to improve 2. MUSIS AMICA - Eye-catching runner-up in the 2018 French Oaks. Not as effective since returning from the break 3. CHANNEL - Won the Prix de Diane in June but most recently flopped in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Tries the trip 4. PINK DOGWOOD - Has made the frame in all three starts at Group I level this year. Hugely respected 5. VILLA MARINA - Has improved nicely in last two outings but faces a much tougher assignment here and has never raced beyond 10.5f so far 6. TAMNIAH - Ran only twice this year and was last seen on the track when winning the group III Prix Minerve at Deauville one month ago. Progressive and can spring a surprise 7. ANAPURNA - Won all three starts this year including The Oaks ahead of (4) PINK DOGWOOD and (8) FLEETING. Not seen since 8. FLEETING - Third in Epsom Oaks and runner-up to (9) STAR CATCHER in Irish equivalent. Fit and ready so should be respected 9. STAR CATCHER - Won three from four this term including the Irish Oaks ahead of (8) FLEETING and (4) PINK DOGWOOD. Leading chance Summary What an absolute belter of a renewal of this great Prix Vermeille. Most people would agree that the unluckiest filly of this or any other season just has to be (8) FLEETING. One could argue that she should have won both the English and Irish Oaks and also at Royal Ascot while the distance of the Beverly D was too short last time. She can mow down the rapidly improving and high class (9) STAR CATCHER. (4) PINK DOGWOOD and (7) ANAPURNA can come home next. Selections (8) FLEETING - (9) STAR CATCHER - (4) PINK DOGWOOD - (7) ANAPURNA Race 5 1. MOHAWK - Group II winner at two. Beaten a long way in the Prix du Jockey- Club last June. Easy winner of a condition race last time out 2. QUEST THE MOON - Won a Group III over course & distance last May before taking the fourth place in the German Derby. Respected 3. SOTTSASS - Impressive winner of the Prix du Jockey-Club last June. Off since then. Will not be fully fit today but remains the one to beat 4. VERONESI - Three time winner from seven. Likely to set the pace for stablemate (4) VERONESI 5. MUTAMAKINA - Dual winner from four. Runner-up in a Deauville Group II last time out. Has never raced beyond 10f Summary All eyes will be on (3) SOTTSASS for his return to competition after a summer on the sidelines. He has the assistance of a pacemaker and should be a tough nut to crack if he has made any progress since last spring. (2) QUEST THE MOON is likely to skip the Arc and will be at the top of his game for this race so could the surprise package. Selections (3) SOTTSASS - (2) QUEST THE MOON - (5) MUTAMAKINA - (1) MOHAWK Race 6 1. SESTILIO JET - Won a Group III over course & distance last spring. Runner- up in a 5f Chantilly Group II in most recent start 2. MUBAALEGH - Lightly-raced gelding who was runner-up on both starts this term including in a German Listed Race 3. FORZA CAPITANO - A close second to (11) SHADES OF BLUE last time in a Listed at Maisons-Laffitte. Respected 4. GOLD VIBE - Very consistent performer at this level of competition but has not won a race for about two years 5. BUONASERA - Useful mare in Italy but does not appear to be up to the task here. Others preferred 6. STAKE ACCLAIM - Useful UK sprinter who was beaten three lengths when runner-up to Spinning Memories over 6f last time out at Deauville 7. HACKNEY ROAD - Useful mare in Spain that won by a neck a Class 2 contest at La Teste one month ago. Takes a major step up in grade 8. COMEDIA ERIA - Creditable last two efforts over 6f in Group III races. Unlikely to win but a place chance 9. SAMSKARA - Won her two starts with ease this year. Progressive filly but takes a big step up in grade 10. GLASS SLIPPERS - Dual winner in UK last year and most recently won a Deauville Listed by a head 11. SHADES OF BLUE - Won a Listed ahead of (3) FORZA CAPITANO in July at Maisons-Laffitte. Runner-up in a Group III and a Listed since then 12. POETRY - Well beaten fourth in a Deauville Group III last time out. Drop in distance will favour Summary This Group Three sprint will be run at an absolutely blistering pace so if you blink you will miss it. The overseas challengers have been taking all before them this season and this might be hard watching for the home supporters as well.
