31st July 2015 ASX Announcement ASX:MGY MALAGASY MINERALS LIMITED Activities Report for the June Quarter 2015 HIGHLIGHTS Following the end of an extended wet season field crews were mobilized to the Maniry Graphite Project and the Vohibory Nickel-Copper Project to undertake exploration programs that will include geological mapping and geochemical sampling, trenching and most likely a second phase of resource evaluation diamond drilling. A payment of $CAN 700,000 cash and 1,000,000 shares was made by Energizer Resources Inc. (“EGZ”) representing the second tranche for the acquisition of 25% of the Molo Graphite Project following their announcement of the completion of a Bankable Feasibility Study (ASX Announcement 27th May 2015). (ACN 121 700 105), 15 Lovegrove Close, Mount Claremont WA 6010 Tel: +61 8 9384 3284, Fax: +61 8 9284 3801 BACKGROUND Malagasy Minerals Limited (ASX Code: MGY / “Malagasy”) has established a large exploration project in Southern Madagascar (Figure 2) that is prospective for both mafic-ultramafic intrusive related nickel-copper- platinum group metals (PGM) deposits and high-grade high-quality graphite deposits. The graphite prospectivity of the region has been established by the discovery of the large, high-quality Molo Graphite Deposit by Energizer Resources Inc. (“Energizer”). Malagasy announced (27th March 2014) that it had finalized the sale of the company’s 25% interest in the project in order to crystallise significant value and to increase its focus on the company’s highly prospective 100% owned ground. The transaction has delivered a low-risk immediate return to Malagasy in the form of initial cash and share payments, whilst maintaining leveraged exposure through future benchmark cash and share payments. -

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15553/c2021v761a11 This paper provides a taxonomic revision of Melanoxerus Kainul. & Bremer (Rubiaceae) – a genus of deciduous trees with eye-catching flowers and fruits that is endemic to Madagascar. Descriptions of three new species, Melanoxerus antsirananensis Kainul., Melanoxerus atropurpureus Kainul., and Melanoxerus maritimus Kainul. are presented along with distribution maps and a species identification key. The species distributions generally reflect the ecoregions of Madagascar, with Melanoxerus antsirananensis being found in the dry deciduous forests of the north; Melanoxerus atropurpureus in the inland dry deciduous forests of the west; Melanoxerus maritimus in dry deciduous forest on coastal sands; and Melanoxerus suavissimus (Homolle ex Cavaco) Kainul. & B. For Ammophila madecassa KOHL, 1909, now a subspecies of Podalonia canescens (DAHLBOM, 1843), a lectotype is designated. Key words: Ammophila, Chalybion, Isodontia, Podalonia, Prionyx, Sceliphron, Sphex, lectotype designation, new records, Madagascar. Zusammenfassung Die Funddaten von acht Arten der Familie Sphecidae werden mitgeteilt. Für Ammophila madecassa KOHL, 1909, jetzt eine Unterart von Podalonia canescens (DAHLBOM, 1843), wird ein Lectotypus festgelegt. Introduction The Malagasy material of the family Sphecidae housed in the Natural History Museum Vienna (Austria) has been examined by the author during the last years. The material has been collected mainly by Franz Sikora (1863–1902) in the 19th century and by the author himself in 1993–2001. As the original labels of Sikora’s material are partly lost, the exact localities are often unknown. The year “1891” printed on some labels is the date of acquisition by the Natural History Museum Vienna. The material collected by the author on Nosy Boraha (= island of Sainte Marie) was published previously (MADL 1997) and is not repeated in the record lists below. Parts of the material were published by KOHL (1909) and DOLLFUSS (2010). During the search for sphecid wasps from Madagascar in the Hymenoptera collection the type material of Ammophila madecassa KOHL, 1909 was found by Manuela Vizek and the author. -

This has resulted in low-cost access to raw materials becoming the priority for states and multinational corporations that wish to meet this growing demand. This frenetic race to gain access to raw materials is leading to an increase in the extractive industry’s projects, continually pushing the boundaries of the acceptable to new heights. These demands are being met at the expense of the environment and local communities, essentially in the countries of the Global South, which is where most of these resources are located. What is going on is nothing less than plundering and, for local communities, the extractive industries are often synonymous with destruction and contamination of their environment and livelihoods. -

MADAGASCAR Food Security Outlook June 2016 to January 2017 Poor harvest in the South results in an early start to the lean season KEY MESSAGES Current food security outcomes for June 2016 • As a result of an El Niño driven drought that affected the 2015/2016 agricultural season, main and off-season harvests were well below-average or failed, depending on the crop and zone, in parts of southern Madagascar including Tsihombe, Ambovombe, the southern part of Amboasary, Beloha, Bekily, Ampanihy coastal, and Betioky Atsimo. • In worst-affected pockets of Androy region, particularly in the municipalities of Anjampaly, Betanty, Antaritarika, and Marovato in Tsihombe and Tranovaho and Beabobo in Beloha, households are expected to face large food consumption gaps, in line with Emergency (IPC Phase 4) outcomes between October and January. Humanitarian assistance will be needed to fill these food deficits, protect livelihoods, and prevent acute malnutrition.
