Dorf Maslenica (Winnetou Drehort) liegt unter dem Velebit-Gebirgszug am Novogradi- schen Meer in der Nähe von Zadar. Wegen seiner einheitlichen natürlichen Gegebenheiten, der außerordentlichen geomorphologischen Formen und der herrlichen Wälder wurde das Gebiet von Velika und Mala Paklenica schon im Jahr 1949 zum Nationalpark erklärt. Der Hauptgrund für die Erklärung dieses Gebiets zum Nationalpark war der Schutz des meist erhaltenen und größten Waldkomplexes auf dem Gebiet von Dalmatien, welcher vom Raubbau gedroht war. Der Nationalpark erstreckt sich auf der Fläche von 95 km Empfehlenswert: Höhle von Monita PEC; Schluchten von Velika und Mala Paklenica; der Gipfel von Vaganski vrh (1757 m ü. M.)
Due to its unique natural features, magnificent forests and extraordinary geomorphologic structures, the area of Velika and Mala Paklenica was proclaimed a national park in 1949. The main reason for proclaiming this area a national park was the protection of the largest and best-preserved forest com- plex in the territory of Dalmatia, which was threatened by overexploitation. The Paklenica National Park on the area of 95 km2.

Der Fluss Zrmanja beginnt seine 69 Kilometer lange Reise im südlichen Teil des Berges Plješevica. Auf der Reise ins Meer von Novigrad, in das er mündet, fließt er durch enge und 200 Meter tiefe Schluchten. Der Fluss ist mit seinen vielen Wasserfällen und Stromschnellen ideal für Wildwasser- Sportarten. Unter Raftingliebhabern ist Zrmanja auch bekannt als Schönheit und Biest zugleich. Wenn der Wasserstand hoch ist, ist es der beste Fluss zum Raften. Andererseits ist der Fluss mit seinem Nebenarm im Sommer sehr geruhsam und ruhig. Langsam können die Besucher dann durch die bezaubernde Landschaft treiben.
Zrmanja starts its 69 kilometers long journey in the southern part of mountain Plješevica. On its way to Novigrad's sea, in which it floats into, it goes through arable narrow valleys and magnificent 200 meters deep canyon. It is typical karstic river – it has numerous waterfalls, cascades and ra- pids, which make it perfect for white water sports. Rafting lovers have named it beauty and the beast, because when the water level is high, it offers one of the best rafting experiences in this part of Europe. On the other side, Zrmanja is, with its tributary Krupa, one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe.
