Coat Hanger Sculpture Contest Rules and Instructions

The gang’s resident perfectionist, Miss Sally Brown, got a C on her coat hanger sculpture! Create your own sculpture and see it displayed during performances at Memorial Park this summer. All ages are encouraged to participate!

To enter, bring your sculpture and contest entry form to the Playhouse during the designated drop-off period (see below). Winners of the contest will receive prizes including tickets and more!

Making Your Sculpture

Every sculpture must be primarily constructed of wire hangers but may include other materials. Sculptures can be designed to hang on a closet rod or to sit on a tabletop. Sculptures will be awarded via voting within a variety of categories (see below for the full list). Watch the video here for examples of how you can make your sculpture!

One entry per person, please.

Entering the Contest

To enter, bring your sculpture and the contest entry form (we need to know your name, sculpture's title, phone, email, street address, and age range, and have your permission to show your sculpture) to Sierra Madre Playhouse (87 W Sierra Madre Blvd, Sierra Madre 91024) between May 27th and July 29th. Drop-off times are Thursdays and Fridays from 11am-1pm.

Award Categories

The award categories include:

- Charlie Brown Award: Best Overall - Snoopy Award: Best Representation of a Peanuts Character - Sally Award: Best Abstract - Linus Award: Most Realistic - Schroeder Award: Best Homage to a Famous Artist - Lucy Award: Best Social Commentary - Pig Pen Award: Best Incorporation of Recycled Materials

The age groupings are: 4-10, 10-15, 16+ (please remember to mark which age range you are in when you fill out your contest entry form!)

Voting for Your Favorite Sculptures

Sculptures will be displayed in Memorial Park during performances! Voting will be available at performances from July 31st to August 15th. Individuals may only vote once.

Winners’ Prizes

Winners of Best Overall in each age group will receive a pair of tickets to a preview performance held inside the Playhouse at a later date. Winners of other categories will receive a concessions gift certificate. All winners will earn bragging rights!

Getting Your Sculpture Back

Sculptures may be retrieved at SMP on September 16th. Any sculptures remaining after this date will be disposed of.
