The entire Gainesville music scene was built around songs: Top Forty songs on the radio, songs on albums, original songs performed on stage by bands and other musical ensembles. The late sixties was a golden age of rock and pop music and the rise of the rock band as a musical entity. As the counterculture marched for equal rights and against the war in Vietnam, a sonic revolution was occurring in the recording studio and on the concert stage. New sounds were being created through multitrack recording techniques, and record producers such as Phil Spector and George Martin became integral parts of the creative process. Musicians expanded their sonic palette by experimenting with the sounds of sitar, and through sound-modifying electronic ef- fects such as the wah-wah pedal, fuzz tone, and the Echoplex tape-de- lay unit, as well as a variety of new electronic keyboard instruments and synthesizers. The sound of every musical instrument contributed toward the overall sound of a performance or recording, and bands were begin- ning to expand beyond the core of drums, bass, and a couple guitars. -

Creedence Clearwater Revisited and Remarkable! (Videos) Rock ‘n Roll owes Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) a huge thank-you! Their music embodies the essence of rock ‘n roll and they should have received more acclaim and recognition. They’re not the Beatles, not the Stones, not the Beach Boys. They generated a sound of their own and they deserve to be in that lofty league. CCR has sold 28 million records in the United States alone and Rolling Stone ranked them 82nd on its Artists of all Time list. On November 16, 1969, they performed “Fortunate Son” and “Down on the Corner” on the Ed Sullivan Show. Watch Here Now, let’s go back in time to Woodstock, the summer of 1969. Creedence was there! Depending on what you believe and what you read, as soon as a big-name group showed up, they were pushed back. Subsequently, Creedence was never included in the Woodstock movie or the album. Sadly, the group split up in the early 1970s and it wasn’t pretty. KENZER The Americanroots rock musical genre of the late 1960's and early 1970's too oftenhas been overlooked in the historical discussion of popular culture of the period. This study, through an examination of the works of fivepopular musical groups- Bob Dylan, The Band, The Grateful Dead, The Byrds, and Creedence ClearwaterRevival - focuseson how this music tied into a continued American mythology tradition of populism. Through an approach that corresponds with Richard Slotkin's views on the creation of Americanmyth , and a focuson the lyrical content of the songs and their presentation of nature, the open road, American heroes and anti-heroes, and death and destruction, this thesis examines how these songs utilized populist philosophies foundin earlier American folkand blues music andadapted them as a means to explain and rationalize their place in the post-modem American society. -

NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 5, 2018 MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE HONORS AMERICAN SINGER AND SONGWRITER JOHN FOGERTY WITH THE 2018 FOUNDERS AWARD Annual Benefit Gala Raised More Than $950 Thousand for MoPOP SEATTLE — On December 4, 2018 the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) presented American musician, singer, and songwriter John Fogerty with its 12th annual Founders Award, an honor given to artists who have made outstanding contributions in popular music. The award was presented by Alexis Lee, Executive Director of MoPOP, during the museum’s annual fundraiser which this year generated over $950 thousand for the museum. “We are proud to be honoring the legendary John Fogerty,” said Alexis Lee during her opening remarks, “We strive to make creative expression a life-changing force, and he is a model of the artistry and success we want to foster here at MoPOP.” Shane and Tyler Fogerty then followed with a moving speech for their father. "I am humbled and honored that MoPoP chose me as the recipient of the 2018 Founders Award. I had no idea my sons, Shane and Tyler, would be delivering this heartfelt speech. I will never forget how special it was. I am so grateful and proud,” said Fogerty after receiving the award. Fogerty is recognized as an iconic American songwriter for his songs with Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) and as a solo artist. He was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as leader of CCR and has earned a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame for his hit song, Centerfield. -

August2,2004 • M 0 N 0 AY Creedence Clea1Water Revisited to play Familj Weekend A reincarnation of1970s rock group CCR u:ill roek Easten1 in a shou• \set to delight students aud family alike STAFF REPORT The 2004 Family Weekend Concert will take a break from the comedy acts of the past two years in exchange for a bit of a southern-fried feel when Creedence Clearwater Revisited performs at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., Saturday, October 2 in Lantz Arena. The group features remaining members of the seminal 1960s rock act Creedence Clearwater Revival. Creedance Clearwater Revisited is made up of Stu Cook, bass, and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, drums, previously of Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as Elliot Easton, formerly of The Cars, on lead guitar. Other members include John 'IHstao and Steve Gunner. According to a press release, many questions have sur faced as to how Easton ended up in the southern rock group. "Elliot's playing always had a bluesy rock feel," Cook said in a press release. -

Green River The Ultimate CCR/John Fogerty Tribute Show A LITTLE BACKGROUND Green River - The #1 Nationally Touring Creedence Clearwater Revival/John Fogerty Tribute Show is the brain child of native New Yorker Rick Horvath. Noodles as he is affectionately know, was born to perform this music. He started singing CCR songs in his very first band when he was only 13 years old. CCR was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their musical style encompassed the roots rock and swamp rock genres. Creedence Clearwater Revival's music is still a staple of American radio airplay the band has sold 26 million albums in the United States alone. The show is very faithful to a live CCR performance. Listeners enjoy a full 90 minute show of their favorite CCR classics (Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Up Around the Bend to name a few) and songs that Creedence would turn into live jams such as Born on the Bayou and Susie Q. The band also mixes in John Fogerty classics including The Old Man Down the Road and Centerfield capturing the energy of his current show. Rick Horvath: Guitar/Lead Vocals Rick "Noodles" Horvath has been a familiar staple on the East Coast music scene for decades. A founding member of NY's Sorethumb - one of Long Island's most successful working bands for over 20 years, he has also worked with many top studio producers & engineers: Mick Jones of Foreigner, Gary Lyons (Greatful Dead) and Steve Rinkoff (Meatloaf) to name a few. Let it Rock: the Mount Olympus of American rock bands, 1965-1995 Course description: This is an eight-week course that will take a deep dive into the music and story of six of the greatest American rock and roll bands, groups that defined the genre. The rich history of rock and roll is full of brilliant songs and singers, but the essence of rock and roll has always been the rock and roll band—that small--usually four to seven piece—ensemble made up of young musicians who caught lightning in a bottle together, taking their blues, R&B, rockabilly, early rock, country, folk and even jazz influences and combining them to create music that is timeless and inspiring. A band is like a family; there is friendship, rivalries, tragedy, triumph and intense love. This course will take a close look at six of the most iconic, artistic, and successful of those bands. In the first three weeks we will cover a trio of the most impactful American groups in rock and roll history. The fourth week we examine a band that was 4/5 Canadian, but made their musical mark in the US. Weeks five and six we cover a band that was originally British, but became a household word when they came to America, and we will devote the final two weeks to a beloved, late, legendary American rocker. Each session will include: • A thorough, fast-moving background lecture about each band, including; quotes, excerpts from books, and photographs of the bands and key people around them presented in a slide show format with accompanying biographical commentary. -

Here in the valley, the group has earned lots of fans, performing twice at the Historic Hemet Theatre in the past couple years and becoming one of the most requested shows. On Saturday November 3rd, Fortunate Son will hit the stage again, packing the house with cheering CCR fans. Already, tickets for the show are nearly gone. And the band members of Fortunate Son are big fan of the Historic Hemet Theatre. Lead Singer Brad Ford was interview recently by a local reporter. “What we like about the Historic Hemet Theatre is not only is it a great venue with much history in the community but you feel the passion for music coming from the crowd. These folks know their music. They are coming to see you specifically and they come ready to party.” Just like so many musicians that have played Hemet's charming old movie house, HHT has become Brad's favorite place to perform. From the swampy blues of "Born on the Bayou" and "Green River," to the country influences of "Bad Moon Rising," "Lodi," and "Lookin' Out My Back Door," and the rock anthems such as "Proud Mary," "Centerfield," "Who”ll Stop the Rain," and "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival truly are America's favorite rock & roll band.
