Insights Match Day 37 Serie a TIM Other Matchday 37 Serie A TIM 2020-21 15 - 17 May 2021 15/05/2021 15:00 - LUIGI FERRARIS GENOA Vs ATALANTA Atalanta have lost just one of their last 10 Serie A TIM matches against Genoa (3-1 in December 2018), earning seven wins and two draws in this period. After a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture, Genoa could remain unbeaten in both league matches in a season against Atalanta for the first time since 2014/15 (2-2 in the first fixture and 4-1 in the second), when Gian Piero Gasperini was the Nerazzurri coach. Atalanta have won four of their last five Serie A TIM away games against Genoa (L1), as many as they had in their previous 31 away league matches at Genoa in the competition beforehand. Since Davide Ballardini joined Genoa (21st December, 2020), the Rossoblu have picked up 32 points in 23 league games; they would be ninth in Serie A TIM table in this timeframe, with just one fewer point than Sassuolo and two behind Roma. In 2021, Atalanta have picked up 53 points in Serie A TIM (W16 D5 L2); only Inter (55) have earned more this calendar year so far. Atalanta have won 10 Serie A TIM games away from home this campaign, and could equal their record of league away wins in a single top-flight season (11 in Serie A TIM in 2019/20). Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini began his Serie A TIM managerial career with Genoa in August 2007. Indeed, the Rossoblu are the team with which he has taken charge of in the most games (232) as a manager in the competition. Genoa’s Mattia Destro – who has scored three goals against Atalanta in the Italian top-flight - has scored seven league goals at the Ferraris stadium this season; in no other Serie A TIM campaign has he found the net more times in home games. Luis Muriel (12 goals at home and 10 away from home) is one of only two players in Atalanta’s history to have scored at least 10 goals both home and away in a single Serie A TIM season, alongside Filippo Inzaghi in 1996/97 (14 home, 10 away). Luis Muriel has scored 22 goals in Serie A TIM this season; only two players in Atalanta’s history have scored more goals in a single Italian top-flight season: Duván Zapata (23 in 2018/19) and Filippo Inzaghi (24 in 1996/97). 15/05/2021 15:00 - ALBERTO PICCO SPEZIA Vs TORINO In Serie A TIM, Serie B and Coppa Italia meetings combined, Spezia and Torino have met each other twice previously. Torino won 4-2 in the Coppa Italia back in 1937, while the reverse fixture in this league campaign was a goalless draw. Spezia have alternated between a defeat and a draw in each of their last six league games (drew 2-2 in their last game against Sampdoria), conceding 14 goals in this period (an average of 2.3 per match). Spezia lost 1-4 in their last home league game against Napoli, and could lose back-to-back home matches for the second time in Serie A TIM, also doing so between December and January against Genoa and Verona. Torino lost 7-0 in their last league game, which was the first time they conceded seven goals while failing to score in Serie A TIM since January 2020 against Atalanta, after which they then suffered another heavy loss in their following Serie A TIM match (4-0 against Lecce). Torino have drawn 1-1 in both of their last two league games on the road (v Bologna and Verona), last drawing three consecutive away matches in Serie A TIM back in December 2018 under Walter Mazzarri (4). Torino have won none of their last five matches against newly promoted sides in Serie A TIM (D4 L1), losing their last such game against Crotone in March. Torino are looking to win a league game against a newly promoted side for the first time since July 2020 (v Brescia). Torino have conceded 64+ goals in their first 35 Serie A TIM games of a season for the first time since 1950/51. In that season, the Granata finished 15th at the end of the season, with 69 goals conceded. Torino boss Davide Nicola formerly played for Spezia, having played 27 games for them in Serie B in 2006-07. Spezia’s Diego Farias made his Serie A TIM debut against Torino with Sassuolo in August 2013. He has been directly involved in four goals (1 goal, 3 assists) in his last five matches against Torino in the top-flight. Torino’s Andrea Belotti has only scored one goal in his last seven matches against newly promoted teams in Serie A TIM, this after having scored five goals in his previous five such encounters in the competition. 15/05/2021 18:00 - ALLIANZ STADIUM JUVENTUS Vs INTER After winning 2-0 in the reverse fixture, Inter could win two consecutive Serie A TIM games against Juventus for the first time since 2003/04 under Alberto Zaccheroni. Inter could keep a clean sheet in both Serie A TIM games against Juventus in a season for the first time since 1994/95 (two nil-nil draws). Inter have failed to score in each of their last five Serie A TIM away games against Juventus; only against Reggina (seven) are Juventus currently enjoying a longer ongoing streak of clean sheets in home games in the competition. Inter’s last win away from home against Juventus in Serie A TIM was back in November 2012 (3-1 thanks to a Diego Milito brace and a Palacio goal) under Antonio Conte. Juventus have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 13 games in all competitions; they last suffered a longer such run in 1955 (21 games in a row). After losing 0-3 against Milan, Juventus could lose two Serie A TIM home games in succession for the first time since March 2011. Juventus (13) and Inter (14) have both scored the most goals via headers among all sides in Serie A TIM this season. The Nerazzurri have also conceded the joint-fewest headed goals in the 2020/21 competition (three, level with Spezia). Among current Juventus players, Juan Cuadrado has found the net the more times against Inter in Serie A TIM than any of his teammates (three). On the other hand, among current Inter players, only Alexis Sánchez has scored more than one goal against Juventus in the Italian top-flight (two). Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo made his senior debut with Sporting Lisbon in August 2002 against Inter in the Champions League qualifying rounds. The Portuguese star has scored four goals in 10 matches in all competitions against the Nerazzurri (W5 D4 L1). In four competitive appearances for Inter against Juventus, Romelu Lukaku has never found the net; against no other team has he played more matches for the club without scoring in all competitions (also four against Atalanta and Verona). 15/05/2021 20:45 - OLIMPICO ROMA Vs LAZIO AS Roma have won none of their last four derbies against Lazio in Serie A TIM (D2 L2), last failing to win more consecutive such meetings back in 1998 (8). Following their 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, Lazio are looking to win back-to-back Rome derbies in Serie A TIM for the first time since 2012; indeed, they could kept a clean sheet in consecutive league games against AS Roma for the first time since the 2006/07 season. AS Roma have only lost two of their last 22 home games in Serie A TIM against Lazio, winning 12 matches in the process (D8). Over each side’s last six Serie A TIM games of this season, only Parma (6) and Benevento (5) have suffered more defeats than AS Roma in Serie A TIM (W1 D1 L4). AS Roma have only lost two of their last 22 home games in Serie A TIM (v Milan and Napoli), keeping a clean sheet in eight of their last 16 such matches. In each side’s last 10 Serie A TIM matches this season, no team has won more games than Lazio’s eight (L2). The Biancocelesti are level in this period with Inter, Atalanta and Napoli. Only Crotone (0) have seen fewer goals scored by substitutes than AS Roma (2) in Serie A TIM this season. After scoring a goal in both of his first two Rome derbies against Lazio in Serie A TIM, AS Roma's Edin Dzeko has since only scored one goal in his last nine games against the Biancocelesti in the division. Ciro Immobile has scored four goals for Lazio in league derbies against Roma, behind only Silvio Piola (6) and Tommaso Rocchi (5) for the Biancoceleste against the Giallorossi in the top-flight. Ciro Immobile has scored 150 goals for Lazio in all competitions; since his club debut (2016/17 season), only Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe have scored more among players for clubs in the top-five European leagues. 16/05/2021 12:30 - ARTEMIO FRANCHI FIORENTINA Vs NAPOLI Napoli won 6-0 in the reverse league fixture against Fiorentina, and are looking to complete their first league double against them since 2014/15 under Rafael Benítez. Fiorentina have only won three of their last 21 matches against Napoli in Serie A TIM (D8 L10); however, one of these victories (2-0) was in the second meeting between these two sides in last season’s top-flight.
