THE CITADEL 14

WESTERN CAROLINA 21

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- The Citadel had a pair of 100- yard rushers and the defense posted a second-half shutout, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs fell, 21-14, at Western Carolina. The offense looked good on the opening possession as they drove down the field and scored on the opening drive as Nathan Storch scored his first career touchdown from two yards out. The Catamounts regained the lead in the second quarter, and then capitalized on a Bulldog turnover to take a 21-6 lead into the locker room. The Citadel opened the second half by marching down the field, but a penalty slowed the drive and the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs inside the five yard line. The Bulldogs were able to get the ball back and this time they were able to find the end zone. Quarterback Jaylan Adams took matters into his own hands and outran the defense for a 20-yard touchdown. Adams led the charge by rushing for 131 yards on 25 carries. Storch added 125 yards on 33 carries. Both players scored a rushing touchdown. The Bulldog defense held the Catamounts to just 69 yards in the second half. It marked the second- straight game the defense has not allowed a point in the second half. Anthony Britton Jr. led the way with a career-high 16 tackles, including nine solo stops. Caleb Deveaux and Brian Horn each added seven tackles.
