    About Calgary United Soccer Association (CUSA): Organized soccer in Calgary dates back to 1898 when the Calgary Association Football League held its inaugural season with 6 teams and 140 players. Many iterations and 82 years later, CUSA was founded as an amalgamation of Calgary Men’s Soccer League and Calgary United Soccer. In its inaugural season, CUSA operated leagues for approximately 30 teams and 600 players. Over the past 35 years the association has grown dramatically today consisting of over 310 teams and 9,000+ registered players and coaches.     Ottawa selected for Canada Soccer's Toyota National Championships in 2021 Canada Soccer has selected Ottawa as a host city for the 2021 Toyota National Championships, Canada's premier amateur soccer competition that brings together clubs from coast to coast to coast. Selected from 15 candidates that expressed interest in hosting, Ottawa will be hosting the 2021 U-15 competition.     FROM ATLANTIC CITY TO TORONTO: The Boardwalk Trophy and the Eastern Hockey League Part 1: The Sea Gulls, the Rovers, the Olympics and the Cutters By Chuck Miller (Hockey Ink! Vol. III, Iss. 2-3) True story - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Trophy, a prize handed from champion to champion of the old Eastern League, was found in a storage shed. Brian Elwell, a former player/coach for the old Syracuse Blazers, became a successful bar and grille owner after his retirement from hockey. As we talked about the proposed new AHL team for Syracuse, Elwell reminisced about his days in the Eastern Hockey League. "You know," he said to me, "somebody dropped this trophy off at my restaurant. It's been in my storage shed for a while. Seems like I remember seeing this once or twice in my playing days." I drove to Syracuse, hoping against hope that the pilgrimage wouldn't be just a 150-mile sightseeing journey. And when Elwell brought out a missile-shaped trophy with "THE BOARDWALK CHALLENGE TROPHY," carved into its side, the engravings drowning in a sea of tarnish and dirt, I knew this was something big. -=- Our journey begins in the fall of 1930. Lincoln Dickey, manager of the Atlantic City Auditorium, imported some Montreal-based hockey players, set them up against the toughest amateur and professional teams on the East Coast, and the Atlantic City Sea Gulls were born.     CHAPTER 5 Early International Races SAIL AND POWER As fae as the kecords go, the first international race in which a Vancouver yacht took part was in Bellingham Bay, at Fairhaven, on July 4th, 1891. The local contender was the Siren, a five-ton cutter, 30 feet overall, with 1200 square feet of sail area. She was specifically designed and built by Capt. Billy Watts, founder of Vancouver Shipyard, to outrace all comers. She had her workout in Burrard Inlet on Dominion Day 1891, when Watts outsailed Andy Linton's famous speed queen May, which was skippered by the old maestro, Walter Graveley. So Watts sailed to Bellingham with a crew consisting of J. W. McFie, Dr. Bob Mathison, D. S. McKenzie, Dr. C. H. Gatewood and Jim McKay. At Fairhaven he picked up a local man who knew the tides. The six competing boats included the Ariadne of Herreshoff design, considered the queen of Puget Sound waters. The race started at 10 a.m., with a nice westerly breeze of about ten knots. The first leg, six miles, was sailed with a started sheet. Siren jockeyed herself into the windward berth and boomed off with mainsail, two jibs and a club topsail. "After getting in the lead in the first half mile," Captain Watts recalled many years after, "the lug of the mast band at the shrouds pulled out, so I took in the kites. J. W. McFie, carrying a marlinspike and a piece of new one inch manila, went up that shroud like a cat and had the shroud fastened in less than five minutes.

The Under 15 Cup will take place in Calgary, Alberta with Manitoba being represented by FC Northwest in the girl’s division and Bonivital SC in the boy’s division. The Under 17 Cup will take place in Fredericton, New Brunswick with Manitoba being represented by Bonivital SC in both the girl’s and boy’s divisions respectively. Finally, the Senior Men’s Challenge Trophy will be played in Surrey, British Columbia with FC Winnipeg Lions representing the province after winning their 10th Manitoba provincial title. All 2017 Toyota National Championships will run from October 4th to 9th, 2017. Canada Soccer will be broadcasting daily from all venues, and live streaming of matches can be found at canadasoccer.com. It will be an exciting weekend, as this will be the first time for many players participating in a National Competition. The National Club Competition will test all team’s resiliency as they play multiple matches against tough opponents over a short period of time.
