Looking for her fourth win from as many career trips to the post, the New York-bred was forwardly placed throughout the running of Friday=s GII Lake George S. and turned in what has become her patented late turn of speed to lead home a 1-2 finish for the Chad Brown barn, successful in this 12 months ago with Mrs. McDougal (Medaglia d=Oro). A three-length debut winner in a single appearance at two sprinting over the Belmont turf course last October, Ancient Secret went missing for nearly seven months, returning to coast to a 4 1/4-length allowance success downstate May 14. While those two performances came against her fellow state-breds, the chestnut proved she could mix it with open company, as she came with a stinging late rally to best Thundering Sky (Sky ) by a head when last seen in the June 19 Wild Applause S. at Belmont. Away without incident, Ancient Secret perhaps caught a bit of a break when Gone Away (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}), typically well back in the run, went forward from a wide gate, allowing Irad Ortiz Jr. to slot in two wide with cover into the first turn and down the back. There were no significant changes in the running order, and it was Ancient Secret who made the first serious move, as she advanced three deep once pulled out and was more or less on even terms as the field neared the stretch. Roused to the front for good a furlong from the wire, Ancient Secret was always holding sway as stablemate Elysea=s World weaved her way through traffic to grab second late. "This filly ran really well,@ commented Brown. AShe's a remarkable horse. She always trained like a really quality animal, we just gave her little incremental goals and she's hit them all. I wasn't quite sure about the two turns, I know she's a top-class horse, but I was curious to see what she was going to do when the gates opened and she passed the test."

US ARMY RANGER NEARING RETURN A WING AND A PRAYER After recording a treble with exciting 2-year-olds Churchill (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Promise To Be True (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and new >TDN Rising Star= Douglas Macarthur (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) at Leopardstown on Thursday evening, trainer Aidan O=Brien sent out a few of his seasoned stable stars for light work after racing. Among them was US Army Ranger (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who has not been seen since his second in the G1 Investec Derby June 4 and who cantered on the Leopardstown course. O=Brien said the previously unbeaten dark bay could drop down in class and trip for the 10-furlong G3 Royal Whip S. at The Curragh Aug. 21. "US Army Ranger is getting ready to come back,@ O=Brien confirmed. "We've been very happy with him. He had a break and is just back in. We could look at The Curragh with him-- maybe the Royal Whip." cont. p6

Wings Of Desire looks to go one better than his elder brother Eagle Top in Saturday=s King George | Racing Post IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Described as Aslightly freakish@ by trainer prior to CHROME BACK AT HOME his Derby run, Lady Bamford=s homebred Wings of Desire (GB) California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) makes his first start back since (Pivotal {GB}) has some family honour to uphold and vengeance a resounding victory in the G1 Dubai World Cup in Del Mar’s GII San Diego H. Like his full-brother Eagle Top (GB) in 2014, he comes here on the back of a handful of outings, having not raced at two and with a Group 2 win under his belt after mastering Deauville (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in York=s G2 Dante S. over an extended 10-furlong trip May 12. His sibling was fourth on that occasion, but was just a nose away from glory on a second attempt 12 months ago, and connections are hoping it will be third-time lucky with Wings of Desire, who was a staying- on fourth in Epsom=s blue riband on the first Saturday in June. King George cont. Highland Reel heads the Aidan O=Brien contingent and he has the good-to-firm ground he relished when winning the GI Secretariat S. at Arlington in August. The Hong Kong Vase hero has the class to win this race and his Hardwicke effort showed he is nearing a peak again, but connections have muddied the waters by opting to also run Sir Isaac Newton (GB) (Galileo {Ire}). The latter is on the upgrade, having won the 10-furlong Listed Wolferton H. at Royal Ascot June 18 and The Curragh=s G3 International S. over that trip eight days later, and certainly has the raw material to feature. AHighland Reel=s in good form and we=ve been happy with him since [Royal] Ascot,@ revealed O=Brien. AHe ran very well there and the plan going to the Hardwicke was with an eye on going back for the King George.@ French interest comes via The Niarchos Family=s Erupt (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who returned to the Erupt | Scoop Dyga form of his 2015 G1 Grand Prix de Paris success last time when a late-closing second in the July 3 G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. AHe takes a little time to get fit and, with the very wet spring, Francis [Graffard] has struggled a bit with him,@ admitted the owner=s racing manager Alan Cooper. AWith the warmer weather now, the good ground has come and the horse is beginning to thrive. He is a Group 1 winner over a mile-and-a- half at Longchamp, although it will be a step up for him here.@

HIS TIME AT LAST? The fortunes may have turned against Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) more often than not so far, but after a respectable third in the G1 Eclipse S. on unsuitably rain-softened ground at Sandown three weeks ago, the Juddmonte homebred starts again in Saturday=s G2 Sky Bet York S. At least he has the summer ground connections have been expecting and hoping for for so long now as he bids to add to his prior wins in last year=s G3 Tercentenary S. at Time Test after winning last year=s Royal Ascot and G2 Tercentenary S. | Racing Post Joel S. at Newmarket and the G3 S. on his 4-year-old bow at Sandown May 26. As he was in the Eclipse, he will be helped along by stable companion Countermeasure (GB) (American Post {GB}), who either excelled himself when fourth in that 10- furlong highlight or casts serious doubt on the form. AI was really pleased with Time Test=s Eclipse run,@ said trainer Roger Charlton. ABefore the race I wasn=t sure I was going to run as it kept raining and it was soft. It was a rough old race and there were a few bumps down the back, but I thought he stayed on well. He wasn=t good enough on the day, but I=d like to think on fast ground he=d be better. It would be nice to win a Group 2, if we can.@ Despite disappointing when beating only one rival of the dozen who contested the G1 Lockinge S. over a mile at Newbury May 14, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum=s Mahsoob (GB) (Dansili {GB}) is back over a more suitable trip now. Previously, he had beaten Air Pilot (GB) (Zamindar) in the nine-furlong G3 Earl of Sefton S. at Newmarket Apr. 13, and the latter re- opposes after subsequently capturing the G3 Prix la Coupe over this trip at Chantilly June 22. AMahsoob ran no sort of race last time out in the Lockinge,@ Shadwell=s racing manager Angus Gold commented. AHe had been training and working well beforehand but for some sort of reason, which we couldn=t discover, he ran no sort of race at all. We have given him a break and John [Gosden] has brought him back gently. They seem very happy with at home and hopefully we can get him back into form. John has been quoted as saying that he thought Mahsoob had more speed than stamina, hence why we dropped him back in trip for the Lockinge, but he was beaten after three furlongs that day. He has won over a mile and quarter before, so the trip on Saturday should be fine for him.@ TDN EUROPE/INTERNATIONAL • PAGE 5 OF 12 • THETDN.COM SATURDAY • 23 JULY, 2016

AShe was pretty impressive first time out and at the time we didn=t know the second was going to win a listed race and indeed was beaten a length in what was the Cherry Hinton, so the form is pretty good. The third horse was five or six lengths behind us and has won twice, so the pressure is on.@ AShe=s highly rated, she=s a nice filly and I hope for the owner=s sake she can run really well,@ Charlton added.
