VICTOR BOSCHINI OFFICERS OF THE BOARD CHANCELLOR Chairman______J. Luther King, Jr. Vice Chairman______Clarence Scharbauer III Sixth year at TCU Secretary______Karen M. Baker Treasurer______Brian G. Gutierrez Working to Provide a World-Class, Values-Centered University Experience Term Expires Spring 2009 Peter L. Bermont (Miami, FL) Entering his sixth year at Christian University, Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr., is focused on one goal: providing John F. Davis III () TCU students the finest educational experience possible — both inside and outside the classroom. A.R. “Buddy” Dike (Fort Worth) Kenneth J. Huffman (Newtown, PA) And he’ll go the distance to see this happens. In fact, 4,700 miles — the distance between the Metroplex and London, Kade L. Matthews (Clarendon) where he and his wife, Megan, took part in the first-ever study-abroad Frog Camp this summer with 36 incoming Ronald C. Parker (Dallas) students. On the home front, the Boschinis can frequently be seen in the stands of Amon G. Carter Stadium and the Billy Rosenthal (Fort Worth) seats of the Jerita Foley Buschman Theatre. Clarence Scharbauer III (Fort Worth) The Chancellor also keeps his finger on the pulse of the campus by teaching a course, A New Paradigm for Leadership, Sarah Hales Smith (Austin) in the College of Education. It’s a natural. He not only holds the rank of professor of education, but also brings an Lissa N. Wagner (Midland) extensive background in higher education administration to the classroom. Robert J. Wright (Dallas)

Another place where you can often find Chancellor Boschini is the Brown-Lupton University Union in the Campus Term Expires Spring 2010 Commons. With the union’s August opening, TCU moved closer to realizing one of its most ambitious dreams, a “24/7” Allie Beth Allman (Dallas) living/learning community. Open day and night, the Commons is becoming the center of a vibrant social, cultural and Brenda A. Cline (Fort Worth) intellectual life for students, faculty and staff. Ronald W. Clinkscale (Fort Worth) In addition to opening the University Union and eight other new living/learning facilities in the past calendar year, TCU Lou Hill Davidson (Washington, DC) has added a substantial number of faculty and instructional positions over recent years, striving to move the already Mark L. Johnson (Fort Worth) low 14:1 student/faculty ratio to 13:1. J. Roger King (Fort Worth) Jerry J. Ray (Austin) These ambitious initiatives are a result of Vision in Action, a major strategic planning effort Dr. Boschini launched after Roy C. Snodgrass III (Austin) becoming TCU’s 10th chancellor in 2003. From this planning process grew the vision of creating a world-class, values- William E. Steele III (Fort Worth) centered university experience. The Campaign for TCU is making that vision a reality. The public phase of the $250 million fund-raising effort was launched in April and already totals more than $175 million. J. Roger Williams (Fort Worth)

“Gifts from the campaign are making a tremendous difference throughout the campus,” the Chancellor reports. “From Term Expires Spring 2011 newly endowed chairs and professorships to scholarships for deserving students to our wonderful new facilities, our J. Kelly Cox (Midland) remarkable progress is underwritten by the generosity of many, many TCU supporters throughout the country. Alan D. Friedman (Dallas) Ann M. Jones (Albany) “That’s why one of my great pleasures is advocating across the nation and the globe for The Campaign for TCU. I truly Mary Ralph Lowe (Fort Worth) enjoy meeting with the University’s alumni and friends, explaining our vision and paving the path for new support.” Matthew K. Rose (Fort Worth) As chair of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges & Universities (NAICU), Patricia Penrose Schieffer (Washington, DC) Chancellor Boschini also advocates in Congress for 1,000 independent colleges and universities across the nation. He F. Howard Walsh, Jr. (Fort Worth) participates on the Mountain West Conference’s Executive Board as past chair and is a member of the board of State Farm Company Mutual Funds. Term Expires Spring 2012 Robert A. Buschman (San Antonio) Chancellor and Mrs. Boschini are the parents of “four very active kids” who love sports and the arts. Elizabeth and Mary Marcia Fuller French (Fort Worth) are both Horned Frogs. Edward is in his first year of high school, and Margaret is in seventh grade this fall. Rafael G. Garza (Fort Worth) After five years in Fort Worth, Chancellor Boschini has “pretty much embraced all things Texan.” A member of the Charlie L. Geren (Fort Worth) boards of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Van Cliburn Foundation, he says, “It’s my privilege to take an Nick A. Giachino (Chicago, IL) active role in as many community ventures as possible. J. Luther King, Jr. (Dallas) G. NATION’S 10TH-MOST WINS SINCE 2005 203 MEDIA INFORMATION 2008 TCU FOOTBALL MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE 4This is the Mountain West CONFERENCE 42007-08 MWC CHAMPIONSHIPS From its inception in 1999, the Mountain West Conference has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. As the league Nov. 1, 2008 celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2008-09, the MWC continues to cultivate opportunities for student- Men’s and Women’s athletes to compete at the highest level, while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship. Over Cross Country Championships its nine-year history, the MWC has been assertive in its involvement with the NCAA governance structure San Diego, Calif. — San Diego State and has taken a leadership role in the overall administration of intercollegiate athletics.

Progressive in its approach, the MWC has marked several achievements over its first decade of existence, Nov. 5-8, 2008 most notably becoming the first to establish a sports network dedicated solely to an intercollegiate athletic Women’s Soccer Championship conference. The Mountain West was the first to experiment with the coaches challenge in the college Las Vegas, Nev. — UNLV football instant replay system and was the first non-automatic-qualifying BCS conference to participate in and win a BCS bowl game when Utah defeated Pittsburgh in the 2005 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. The Mountain Feb. 25-28, 2009 West was also the first conference to have a member institution with No. 1 overall picks in both the NFL and Men’s and Women’s NBA drafts in the same year (Utah’s Alex Smith and Andrew Bogut, respectively). Swimming and Diving Championships The Mountain West Conference is noted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain Oklahoma City, Okla. — OKCCC Aquatic Center and landscapes in the nation can be found within Mountain West Conference boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MWC schools (Utah, BYU, Air Force and Colorado Feb. 26-28, 2009 State). March 10-14, 2009 4History Men’s and Women’s The Mountain West Conference was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions Basketball Championships — Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming — decided to form a new NCAA Division I-A intercollegiate athletic conference. Las Vegas, Nev. — Thomas & Mack Center

The split from the former 16-team conference re-established continuity and stability among the April 16-18, 2009 membership within the new league and signaled the continuation of its tradition-rich, long-standing Women’s Golf Championship athletic rivalries. Five of the MWC’s eight original members have been conference rivals since the 1960s Seaside, Calif. — Bayonet/Blackhorse (BYU, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado State), while San Diego State (1978) and Air Force (1980) were longtime members as well. UNLV and TCU entered the fold in 1996 and the Rebels continued as one APRIL 22-25, 2009 of the original eight institutions that formed the MWC in 1999. TCU rejoined the group with its first year of competition in the Mountain West in 2005-06, completing the Conference membership as it stands Men’s and Women’s today. Tennis Championships Albuquerque, N.M. — Albuquerque Tennis Center When the MWC officially began operations on July 1, 1999, the new league had in place a seven-year contract with ESPN, giving the broadcaster exclusive national television rights to MWC football and men’s April 30-May 2, 2009 basketball, and three-year agreements to send the league’s football champion to the Liberty Bowl and a Men’s Golf Championship second team to the Las Vegas Bowl. 206 NINE BOWL GAMES LAST 10 YEARS 2008 TCU FOOTBALL MEDIA INFORMATION HORNED FROG STUDENT-ATHLETES

If Amon G. Carter Stadium could talk, the stories it would tell. All told, hundreds of games have been played inside its classic stone facade. Yet, the stadium stands silent, save for two Latin phrases etched in stone forever.

Mens Sana in Copore Sano…a sound mind in a sound body. From the very beginning, TCU athletics has empowered the student as well as the athlete in its quest for the best in intercollegiate athletics.

Crede Quod Habeus et Habes…believe that you can and you will. Indeed, TCU continues to compete–and win–at the highest level of collegiate athletics, sponsoring 20 varsity sports, 11 for women and nine for men.

That quest for balance–to develop the student as well as the athlete–is still true today at TCU.

In striving to prepare the student-athlete for the challenges of today’s competitive world, TCU provides an academic support program that serves to enhance the collegiate experience of the student-athlete.

During the past year, TCU student-athletes did very well academically. The last two semesters have seen the highest grade-point averages by TCU student-athletes since the department began tracking the scores in 1999. Over half of the student-athletes had a 3.0 GPA or better. In an effort to graduate well-rounded student-athletes, TCU athletics marketing has involved the students in various community outreach efforts, including Cook Children’s Medical Center, Reading Frogs, the I Have a Dream Foundation and many other Fort Worth service projects.

Student-athletes have full access to the Academic Center located in the 38,000-square foot John Justin Athletic Center. This academic support area includes individual tutor rooms, group study rooms and a computer lab. The center provides student-athletes with much-needed academic space near their workout and competitive venues. The administration offices, including the athletic director’s staff, as well as the football and compliance offices are located inside the Justin Center.

NATION’S 10TH-MOST WINS SINCE 2005 207 MEDIA INFORMATION 2008 TCU FOOTBALL THE 1938 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HORNED FROGS 4TCU honors historic season The 2008 TCU football campaign commemorates the 70th anniversary of arguably the most historic season in the Horned Frogs’ storied program.

Under legendary coach Dutch Meyer, TCU captured its second national championship in a four-year span. The Frogs were led by Heisman Trophy winner Davey O’Brien, the first football player from both TCU and the Southwest Conference to win college football’s top individual honor. O’Brien’s accolades also included the Maxwell Award and being named the Walter Camp Outstanding Football Player.

As any good quarterback will tell you, credit is due to the offensive line and O’Brien had plenty of help in that area. Center Ki Aldrich and tackle I.B. Hale were also first- team All-Americans and among the best to ever wear the TCU uniform. Eight Frogs were named All-Southwest Conference.

It was simply a dream season for the Frogs in 1938. TCU went 11-0 and capped its undefeated run with a 15-7 victory over fifth-ranked Carnegie Tech in the Sugar Bowl.

The Frogs were No. 1 in every meaningful poll – AP, Williamson and Helms. TCU beat out three other 11-0 teams (Tennessee, Oklahoma, Duke) to sit atop each ranking system.

The 1938 squad remains the only undefeated and untied team in TCU history.

During their 10-0 regular season, the Frogs had just one game decided by less than 13 points – a 21-14 victory over Arkansas. Seven of the wins were by at least 21 points, including victories over Texas A&M (34-6), Baylor (39-7) and Texas (28-6).
