Free Palestine Movement (FPM) The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center April 11, 2011 A UN committee grants accreditation to the anti-Israeli pro-Hamas Free Palestine Movement (FPM). The FPM is headed by Paul Larudee, an active participant in organizing flotillas to the Gaza Strip, including the upgraded one scheduled for May 2011. The letterhead from the UN committee accrediting the FPM. The FPM's new logo, boasting that is it is now an NGO accredited by the UN. קל 70-11 2 Overview 1. In August 2010 the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People granted accreditation to the Free Palestine Movement (FPM), an extreme leftist network based in California which participates in anti- Israeli projects, focusing on sending flotillas to the Gaza Strip. Its objectives are to support the de facto Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, isolate Israel, blacken Israel's image in the eyes of the world and increase international pressure on it. 2. The FPM is headed by Dr. Paul Larudee, who in 2009 was given an award by Ismail Haniya, head of the de facto administration in the Gaza Strip, in honor of his support. Paul Larudee applied for and received accreditation from the UN committee as an NGO member of the "network of civil society organizations active on the question of Palestine." 3. Following the receipt of accreditation, the FPM added "A United Nations Accredited NGO" to its letterhead. In our assessment, the FPM regards the accreditation as a kind of UN stamp of approval for itself and its anti-Israeli projects, particularly the flotillas (Wolfgang Grieger, the committee secretary, ended the letter by wishing the FPM "every success in [its] endeavours in support of a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the question of Palestine.") Profile of the FPM and its leader, Paul Larudee 4. The Free Palestine Movement (FPM) is a California-based network rooted in America's extreme left, with several branches throughout the United States. It describes itself as a human rights organization, but in reality it deals with political propaganda to slander Israel and erode its legitimacy, and with anti-Israeli activities, furthering Hamas' political agenda. 5. The FPM's most prominent figure, and in effect the moving spirit behind its activities, is Dr. Paul Larudee. He is a radical leftist activist, hostile to Israel. He has a PhD in languages from Georgetown University. He was a co-founder of the Free Gaza Movement (FGM) and the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), both networks which play a key role in the international campaign to delegitimize Israel. 6. Several years ago, Paul Larudee wrote an article expressing understanding for the suicide bombers' motives. Between 2002 and 2003, acting for the ISM, he visited Judea and Samaria and participated in anti-Israeli activities. In 2006 he was refused entry into Israel. In 2006, during the Second Lebanon War, he visited Lebanon as part of a plan to dispatch ISM activists to act as human shields. In 2009, while on a visit to the Gaza 3 Strip, he received an award from Ismail Haniya, head of the de facto Hamas administration, in honor of his activities in support of Hamas. Paul Larudee (front row, second from left) at an event with de facto Hamas administration head Ismail Haniya (fourth from left, pointing at the camera). FPM participation in preparations for the upgraded flotilla to the Gaza Strip 7. In recent years Paul Larudee and the FPM have been involved in dispatching flotillas to the Gaza Strip, which has in fact been the focus of their activity. To that end the FPM collaborates with umbrella and other organizations and networks which belong to the international flotilla coalition. At the end of May 2010, Paul Larudee (using a counterfeit passport in the name of Paul Wilder) participated in the IHH-led Mavi Marmara flotilla, sailing aboard the Sfendoni ("8000"). The Sfendoni was dispatched by pro-Palestinian organizations in Greece and Sweden, operating under the umbrella of the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG, a network which plays a key role in organizing the flotillas). Since the Mavi Marmara Larudee has represented himself as "a flotilla survivor," although there was no serious fighting aboard the Sfendoni. 8. The FPM is currently participating in the anti-Israeli coalition's preparations to dispatch an upgraded flotilla to the Gaza Strip, which will have a greater international political and media impact than the Mavi Marmara flotilla. Its organizers hope to dispatch between 15 and 20 ships in May, with the conspicuous participation of important American public figures. However, it is not yet clear if and to what extent the organizers will be able to fully realize their aspirations. 9. Larudee and the FPM hope they will be able to ensure prominent American participation in the upgraded flotilla, including congressmen, members of the administration, human rights workers and celebrities. 10. So far, according to the FGM website, they have received promises of participation from Cynthia McKinney, a former congresswoman and Green Party candidate for the presidency; Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, born in 1949 and a Jewish Renewal rabbi, an American Jewish school of thought which integrates elements of the Kabala and mysticism into its system of belief; 4 Joe Meadors, ex-navy, who was aboard the Liberty when it was attacked by Israel during the Six Day War; William "Jimbo" Simmons and Calvin "Robbie" Roberts, from the American Indian Movement; and Samuel F. Hart, American ambassador to Ecuador under the Reagan administration, 1982-1985. As the sailing date approaches, it is reasonable to assume that the list will grow. FPM's other plans and activities 11. In addition to its media-covered flotilla launches to the Gaza Strip, the FGM is promoting other ideas for embarrassing and slandering Israel. They include dispatching a plane to the Gaza Strip ("Palestine by air") in collaboration with other elements (among them "the authorities in Gaza," i.e., the de facto Hamas administration). The status of "Palestine by air" is unclear. Cartoon for the "Palestine by air" project, from the FPM website. 12. In addition, the FPM encourages its activists to participate in activities to boycott Israel (its website has a link to the BDS site, an organization specializing in promoting international boycotts, divestments and sanctions of the State of Israel). On March 31 the FPM website's so-called "good news" column reported a "successful" boycott of Israeli products in Canada. UN accreditation for the FPM 13. According to the FPM website, on August 20, 2010, Dr. Paul Larudee received an official letter of accreditation for the FPM from the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The letter to Paul Larudee (the full version appears in the Appendix) grants UN accreditation to the organization and recognizes is as an NGO within the "network of civil society organizations active on the question of Palestine." The committee members include representatives from Arab and Muslim countries and bodies like the Arab League and the Islamic Conference, hostile to 5 Israel. Committee secretary Wolfgang Grieger, who signed the letter, is a UN worker whose official title is "political affairs officer at the United Nations." 14. The committee was founded in 1975 by resolution 3376 of the United Nations General Assembly. The committee oversees "a programme of implementation to enable the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination without external interference, national independence and sovereignty; and to return to their homes and property," (i.e., the so-called "right of return," whose implication is the destruction of the State of Israel as a Jewish state). The committee has more than 20 members. They include Afghanistan, Belarus, Cuba, Cyprus, Guiana, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Laos, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mali, Malta, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, the Ukraine and Venezuela. Observer countries include Algeria, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, China, Ecuador, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Syria, the UAE, Vietnam, Yemen, African Union, League of Arab States, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and "Palestine." The current committee chairman is the Senegalese representative to the UN and deputy chairmen are the representatives from Afghanistan, Cuba and Malta. The significance of UN accreditation of the FPM 15. It is not the first time that UN bodies with a majority of countries hostile to Israel have blown a following wind into the sails of the campaign to delegitimize Israel. The Goldstone Report and the intensive anti-Israeli activities of the Human Rights Council in Geneva are obvious examples. 16. The UN-sponsored first Durban Conference inspired the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions campaign (BDS) against Israel and the branding of Israel as an "apartheid state." The official theme of the conference was "world conference against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance." The conference, held August-September 2001, turned into an anti-Israeli anti-Semitic platform for the participating NGOs. They adopted a policy of the "complete and total isolation of Israel as an apartheid state," which to this day inspire and fuel the campaign to delegitimize Israel. 6 Appendix The accreditation letter to Paul Larudee (from the FPM website) .

What’s Really Happening in Syria: Who Started the War, Who Can You Trust to Tell the Truth? A Consumer Fraud Lawyer’s Mini-Primer By Robert Roth Region: Middle East & North Africa Global Research, September 19, 2018 Theme: Media Disinformation, US NATO New Cold War 2 January 2017 War Agenda In-depth Report: SYRIA This article, first published on GR in January 2017, provides an understanding of the history of the war on Syria, from the outset in mid-March 2011. The U.S./NATO line If you try to follow events in the mainstream media (MSM), you may have noticed that they routinely refer to Syrian president Bashar al Assad as a “brutal dictator”. Assad is supposed to have responded to peaceful protests with repressive violence and by “killing his own people”. The U.S., UK, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar continue to maintain that “Assad must go”. I disagree with all of that, as I’ll explain in this article. I spent 25 years prosecuting lies in commerce for the attorneys general of New York and Oregon. I prepared this primer to help you cut through the lies and get at the truth about Syria. Much of this article is a string of excerpts from the excellent work of authors I’ve come to trust and citations or links to sources for further information and analysis. International law, morality, and the sovereignty of the people Since Syria has not threatened the United States in any way, let alone attacked us, our government has no right to try to overthrow the Syrian government.

  • News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center News of Terrorism and the Israeli- Palestinian Conflict (September 1-6, 2010) Hamas spokesman Musheir al-Masri extols the terrorist shooting attack in Judea and Samaria (Al-Jazeera TV, August 31, 2010). Overview This past week events focused on the relaunching of the direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in Washington. According to media reports, both sides agreed their objective was to formulate a "framework agreement" within a year which would define the principles of a resolution for the conflict and the establishment of a Palestinian state. George Mitchell, the American envoy to the Middle East, said that Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas had also agreed to meet in the Middle East on September 14 and 15, and that they would continue meeting every two weeks. The opening session was accompanied by shootin g attacks carried out by Hamas and targeting Israeli vehicles in Judea and Samaria: An attack southeast of Hebron killed four Israeli civilians. In another shooting attack in eastern Samaria two Israeli civilians were wounded. A shooting attack northeast of Ramallah did not result in casualties. Responsibility for the attacks, which were intended to disrupt 248-10 the relaunching of the talks, was claimed by Hamas, which also threatened to maintain a dialogue with Israel "with guns." 2 Important Terrorist Events Shooting Attacks in Judea and Samaria On the evening of August 31 an Israeli vehicle was shot at near the Bani Naim junction southeast of Kiryat Arba in Judea. The four Israeli civilians in the car were killed.

  • Lunch at the Muqata''a—
Lunch at the Muqata’’a— Part One ON THE THIRD AND FINAL DAY of the Fall 2003 International Solidarity Movement (ISM) non-violence training in the West Bank town of Beit Sahour, news suddenly came over the radio that someone had blown themselves up in a restaurant in Haifa, inside the Green Line. It was October 4, two days before Yom Kippur. The broadcasts were in Hebrew and Arabic and had to be translated by the ISM facilitators into English for the majority of us—the Internationals attending the training. But even before the facilitators explained anything we could tell by their intense concentration as they sat huddled around the radio switching back and forth between stations, and making hushed phone calls, that the news was not good. I don’t recall anyone turning on a tv. Beit Sahour in October, 2003, was like a ghost town. Full of empty hotels and restaurants usually catering to tourists going to nearby Bethlehem, but no one was going to Bethlehem. The year before, in 2002, the siege of the 27 Church of the Nativity had made international headlines as the Israeli military laid siege not only to the Church, and those seeking refuge in it, but to Nablus, Jenin and other cities on the West Bank. This created the ground work for the newly spawned multiple checkpoints and the ever expanding “Security Fence,” or “Separation Barrier,” or “Apartheid Wall,” depending on whom one was talking to. So while Beit Sahour was almost empty, except for the people who actually lived there, the very air seemed charged with the news—the hotel staff visibly distracted; the training organizers speaking worriedly among themselves.

  • Palestine/Israel: Making Monitoring Work: (Re-) Enforcing International Law in Europe
Palestine/Israel: Making Monitoring Work: (Re-) Enforcing International Law in Europe A CONFERENCE BRINGING TOGETHER PALESTINIAN, ISRAELI, AND EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS NGOS AND LAWYERS. Conference Report HOSTED BY THE CENTRE FOR ECONOMIC LAW & GOVERNANCE, FREE UNIVERSITY BRUSSELS FOREWORD International humanitarian law risks becoming a ‘dead letter’ unless transgression of its principles is met with a response that does justice to the harm suffered by its victims. The idea of this conference, held in September 2008 in Brussels, Belgium, stems from regular meetings between Diakonia and local Israeli and Palestinian Human Rights organisations, whose fieldworkers tirelessly record and document the daily human rights and IHL violations. Our mission thus far had been to support the monitoring process by providing training on documentation methods, and guidance on interviewing, evidence preservation, storage and archiving. However, we were con- stantly asked the question: what is the use? What is the use of gathering all this information and document every aspect of violations if reports only end up gathering dusts in archives and folders? This is not an effective way of increasing the respect for IHL and it triggers the pivotal question - how can we make monitoring work? Effective enforcement of international humanitarian law in the context of Israel/Palestine requires a readiness on part of civil society organisations and public opinion makers to support legal enforcement actions. Civil society organisations also play a vital role in educating the public on both the violations committed, and the need to bring perpetrators from Israel/Palestine, as well as their accomplices in Europe, to national or international justice.

  • Behind the Boycott
Promoters of BDS—the movement to boycott, divest from, and bring sanctions against the Jewish state of Israel—are open about their aim of pressuring Israel to relinquish land for a Palestinian state. What they less often share is that a two- state solution—Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in peace—is not their goal. THE ORIGINS OF THE ISRAEL BOYCOTT ven before the State of Israel was officially declared in 1948, with the endorsement of the EUN and backed by the immediate recognition of U.S. President Harry Truman, Arabs in British Mandatory Palestine and throughout the region declared war against the Jews. They sought to kill as many as possible, drive the rest out of the country, and end the Jewish state. That era of belligerency lasted over 30 years before Israel and its chief antagonist, Egypt, signed a peace accord in 1979. When it became clear that war could not defeat Israel, those seeking to bring Israel to its knees shifted tactics, and the Palestinian Intifada was born. It came in two waves of terror, running from 1987 to 1993 and then from 2000 to 2005. These surges were premised on the idea that Jews were foreign colonizers who, like European imperialists in the Third World, could be driven out by making the cost of staying higher than the colonizers could bear. But the Palestinians learned during their terror campaigns that the threat of physical harm would not end the Jewish state, because the Jews knew that they belonged in Israel. Next came the current stage in the long-running campaign against Israel—the movement to boycott, divest from, and bring sanctions against Israel, or “BDS” for short.
