The tax is expected to be introduced at the earliest around the end of 2017, but may take between three to five years to properly implement because of the many obstacles and challenges it will face. The State Council announced the introduction of the new property tax structure in its fiscal policy plans released earlier this year. Tennis Superstar Caroline Wozniack Down but Not Out

2015 was a rough season for Danish tennis superstar Caroline Wozniacki as she battled an ankle problem that sidelined her from the tour for 11 weeks and she was slammed by her critics for her comparative underperformance at the majors. Yet, the feisty tennis star is undeterred by her critics and promises to bounce back.

“It’s been a tough year in general. It’s been some injuries; it’s been some bad draws. Yeah, it’s been uphill. But it has to turn, it has to go the other way eventually. I’m just going to take the punches I’m getting and just try and learn from it and try and move forward. I know that by now I can’t expect an easy draw. I just need to be ready and improve my game even more so that I can beat the top players in the earlier rounds, then it can kind of open up from there.” IIt is such determination and spirit that first propelled Wozniacki to stardom. In 2008, she was crowned the WTA Tour Most Impressive Newcomer of the Year and in 2010, she won both the ITF Player of the Year and the Danish Sports Name of the Year. Wozniacki’s accolades also include being the year-end No.1 for two consecutive years starting in 2010. She also ranks fourth among active players with 23 singles titles and owns the dubious record of having the most career singles titles without having won a Grand Slam event.

However, recently, her career has suffered some setbacks as she had to battle a niggling ankle injury which affected her performance on the court and hounding from the social media over her acrimonious split from her high-profile fiancé, golfer Rory McIlroy. Critics have questioned whether Wozniacki’s “biggest opportunities have passed her by”.

Wozniacki, a marathoner who participates regularly on the New York City Marathon, responded to her critics in the best way she knows: Capturing her 25th career Tour title with victory at the Hong Kong Open and returning to the world’s top 20. Wozniacki attributed her win to her endurance and stamina which she developed in the course of training for her marathons.

Dishing rumours about her considering retirement at 26, Wozniacki responded, “I never really doubted that I could come back and make it here. I knew it was gonna be okay whether it was a month, two months, four months, I knew eventually I was gonna be back”. yummy 25 Sponsored by The Westin Pazhou P APER MAGAZINE

Star Chef: Victor Fan Chinese Executive Chef of the Westin Pazhou

Starting out as traditional Cantonese Chef in 1986, Victor Fan is the Chinese Executive Chef for the Westin Pazhou in Guangzhou city today. With three decades of gastronomy experience under his belt, Chef Fan is well known in the hotel circuit for his innovative creations infusing elements of other cuisine into traditional Cantonese dishes.

He believes in the philosophy to always be fresh, be authentic and to be bold to mix and match. This philosophy led to the creation of “Iced Cuisine” in 2004 where he built upon the traditional raw dish served on a dish of ice and introduced other ingredients such as vegetables and seafood served on dishes of ice and flavoured with his homemade secret sauces.

A master, Chef Fan pushes the boundaries of taste buds by fusing signature elements from traditional Cantonese cuisine with elements from other provinces in China to create a palate of flavours unique to his style. Below, he shares his recipe for a staple Cantonese dish enjoyed long ago by the pioneers of this city.

On 16 October 2016, Marriot International hotels across Asia Pacific organised “Run to Give 2016” Charity Run within their cities. As associates across Asia laced up their shoes to enjoy the morning, 600 associates and friends from Marriot International hotels in Guangzhou converged on Sheraton Hotel for this event.

“Run to Give” was initiated in 2014 under the “Starwood Cares” umbrella. Starwood associates across the region organise runs to raise funds for local charities. On 23 September 2016, Marriot International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts completed their merger forming the Rnew Marriot International. Today, this initiative fits right into Marriot International’s “Take Care” movement in Asia Pacific. Started in January 2016, the movement enhances the spiritual and physical health of associates to improve their happiness.

“Run to Give” 2016 marks the first event in which associates from Legacy Starwood and Marriot International jointly support a charitable cause, a symbol of their commitment where their first integrated activity is one that gives back to the community and their associates.

Mr. Duke Nam, Vice President, Operations South China, Marriot International shared that the program encourages associates to bond with the rest of their community through nature and sports. This event echoes the mission of Marriot International’s “Take Care” movement of putting people first as part of their core values.

Through this event, associates of Marriot International serve as brand ambassadors to their friends and community to ensure that the increased presence of hotels contribute towards continuous positive and sustainable social and economic impact.

“Run to Give” 2016 raises funds for World of Art Brut Culture (WABC) dedicated to developing the artistic potentials of persons with special needs and providing an avenue for them to display their talents so as to eliminate social prejudices against them.

Associates, apart from participating in a 3KM, 5KM or 10KM run, organised auctions and sales of merchandise and flowers to raise funds for WABC. Ultimately, “Run to Give” enabled leaders and associates of Marriot International to interact to make a difference to the community.

Books: “The Spy” by Paulo Coelho

The renowned Brazilian author of The Alchemist writes a fictional account of the true story of Mata Hari, the Dutch courtesan who was convicted of international espionage as a suspected German spy during the Great War and was ultimately executed by firing squad in France. Coelho narrates the life of this mysterious, entrancing and courageous woman through her own voice in the form of her final letter, and the novel is just as bewitching as a Mata Hari performance itself.
