Having completed her Bachelor of Education Studies, she fulfilled many roles within Education Queensland (English/Drama teacher, Head of Department, Principal Education Advisor – Australian Curriculum, and Deputy Principal), before her path brought her to Sheldon College. Peta joined the Sheldon College Senior Executive team in 2015, where her role as Director of Teaching and Learning (Years 7-12) is integral in driving best practice in teaching and learning across the secondary years. With a personal interest in digital pedagogy – and a natural flair for creative and critical thinking – Peta works to inspire academic staff to innovate within their classroom and ignite students’ passion for learning. She believes that student learning is most powerful when schools and home have a strong relationship, and welcomes opportunities to build effective partnerships with families. 2018 will be an exciting time within the secondary years and Peta looks forward to strengthening the sub-College’s focus on producing passionate, driven and successful young adults. Mr Darren Harvey Email: [email protected] DIRECTOR – ASTA (Australian School of The Arts) BEd (Drama & English) (Hons) Drama Entering his twenty-first year at Sheldon College, Darren Harvey continues to develop the Arts as part of our College curriculum in the Arts Education program. Due to the outstanding success of classroom Arts subjects and all of our Ensembles, along with the development of the College’s School Musical Theatre Studies, Darren will continue to expand the Australian School of the Arts further, with a fully developed curriculum on offer for all students across the College, from Preschool to Year 12. With a Bachelor of Education Degree (Drama) and experience in teaching and performing arts, Darren offers all students an opportunity to discover their performing/acting talent and true potential through classroom Drama and the acting component of the ASTA program. In 2007, Darren undertook a six week sabbatical tour visiting many Arts Schools and Universities across America and Canada, with an agenda focussed on analysing different Arts Schools and different stages of development. That same year, Darren was appointed to the new role of Manager of the Institute of The Arts, a position he has enjoyed implementing and developing now as the Director of the Australian School of the Arts. In 2010, Darren also visited the Singapore School of the Arts to look at the incredible arts facilities and programs that are currently being offered there. Darren continues to be involved with the College’s Senior Executive team, a role that affords him the opportunity to contribute strategically at a whole of College level. In addition, Darren has gained further experience and success over past years as coach of many sporting teams at various levels, including coaching the U18’s AFL team to a grand final appearance, and winning the premiership. 2017 was another very busy year for Darren and the Arts department, with his role as producer and director of the Musical “Mary Poppins”, performed at the Redland Performing Arts Complex and the 13th Annual Arts Academy Awards held at the Sheldon Event Centre. In addition, Darren was honoured to take on the role of Chair of the 20 Year Celebration Committee, overseeing and co-ordinating a number of memorable events throughout the course of the year. In 2018, Darren looks forward to the ongoing challenge that Sheldon College provides and knows that it will be another exciting and challenging year of enriched learning experiences and achievements at the College. He is particularly excited about producing and directing Sheldon College’s 20th Musical – “Legally Blonde”. The ASTA Professionals Program will enter it’s thirteenth year in 2018 and remains a very exciting adventure for teachers, parents and students alike, with a focus on ongoing growth and evolution.
