FIRE POLICE MEMBER OF THE YEAR is given to someone who is willing to give not only on the road but also to some of the many activities that support the company. This year’s recipient is Bob Sullivan. In 2006, Bob joined the Goshen Fire Company as the company’s photographer. This has always been a hobby of his. Bob now spends most of his time at the firehouse as a Fore Police Officer and also helps at the Goshen Country Fair. Bob joined the fire company after turning 65. He points out that there are many opportunities for people of all ages and we are always looking for volunteers. Bob’s son in law, Jake Schallack, encouraged Bob to become involved with the fire company as the photographer. As Bob began to take pictures of various accidents, he realized they could also be used for training purposes and that his pictures were contributing to the positive moral of the active crew. Bob began to notice that as he drove directly to the scene, he would be one of the first to arrive. It was because of this that he decided to receive some training. Bob became First Responder qualified. He is also currently sworn in as Fire Police Officer. Bob Sullivan has many family members involved with Goshen Fire Company. His son-in-law, Jake Schallack, is an engineer out of 56. His daughter, Kathi Schallack, is a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. His grandson, Tim Schallack, is a firefighter and his wife, Shirley, works at the bookstore at the Goshen Country Fair. Bob Sullivan graduated from Salesianum High School and attended the University of Delaware. He spent 35 years in advertising sales and management in the yellow page and newspaper industries. He is now retired. Bob has 10 grandchildren. Bob would like to remind us that the law requires motorist to move over and change lanes when approaching and emergency situation. This is for the protection of emergency responders. Bob shares, “The Fire Police team at Goshen is recognized as one of the best, if not The Best Fire Police groups in Chester County and I’m proud of being able to serve the public as a member.”
