    National Park Service Sagamore Hill U.S. Department of the Interior Home of Theodore Roosevelt Sagamore Hill National Historic Site Youngs Cemetery and the Roosevelt Family The thought of selecting a final resting place for Theodore Roosevelt and his wife Edith came about when she was seriously injured in a horse riding accident in the summer of 1912. Roosevelt's family, along with his first wife, Alice Lee, was buried Brooklyn's Greenwood Cemetery. With Greenwood so distant and Alice a one time rival for Theodore's affection, Edith likely made the decision that they would be buried at the Youngs family graveyard.Just off the road to Oyster Bay village, the hillside burial ground afforded a view of bay that both had known since they were teenagers in the 1870's when their families rented summer homes just down the road. The Youngs Family and The Youngs family, whose homestead is across the burial, a teary-eyed friend and political adversary, road from the cemetery, were early settlers of the former president, William Howard Taft was one of Roosevelt's Funeral area and owned most of Cove Neck in the 1700 and the last to leave the grave side. i8oo's.     THEODORE ROOSEVELT 1901 - 1909 Theodore Roosevelt was born in Edith Caron Roosevelt, New York City in 1858. He Theodore's second wife, was born graduated from Harvard. When McKinley's death brought the Roosevelts to the White House, Edith assumed her duties with dignity, but she sought to guard her family's privacy and to exclude reporters from her domain.

Ceremony o First outdoor ceremony: George Washington, 1789, balcony, Federal Hall, New York City. George Washington is the only U.S. President to have been inaugurated in two different cities, New York City in April 1789, and his second took place in Philadelphia in March 1793. o First president to take oath on January 20th: Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1937, his second inaugural. o Presidents who used two Bibles at their inauguration: Harry Truman, 1949, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1953, George Bush, 1989. o Someone forgot the Bible for FDR's first inauguration in 1933. A policeman offered his. o 36 of the 53 U.S. Inaugurations were held on the East Portico of the Capitol. In 1981, Ronald Reagan was the first to hold an inauguration on the West Front. Abraham Lincoln. Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Co., Inc. 1959, 1957. This was the 1940 winner of the Caldecott Medal for most distinguished American Picture Book for Children. It is a little dated by today's scholarship and there is no mention of the assassination. However, it has beautiful soft illustrations, and is considered a classic. Fruits, Jean .
