CZECH MYCOLOGY Publication of the Czech Scientific Society for Mycology Volume 57 August 2005 Number 1-2 Central European genera of the Boletaceae and Suillaceae, with notes on their anatomical characters Jo s e f Š u t a r a Prosetická 239, 415 01 Tbplice, Czech Republic Šutara J. (2005): Central European genera of the Boletaceae and Suillaceae, with notes on their anatomical characters. - Czech Mycol. 57: 1-50. A taxonomic survey of Central European genera of the families Boletaceae and Suillaceae with tubular hymenophores, including the lamellate Phylloporus, is presented. Questions concerning the delimitation of the bolete genera are discussed. Descriptions and keys to the families and genera are based predominantly on anatomical characters of the carpophores. Attention is also paid to peripheral layers of stipe tissue, whose anatomical structure has not been sufficiently studied. The study of these layers, above all of the caulohymenium and the lateral stipe stratum, can provide information important for a better understanding of relationships between taxonomic groups in these families. The presence (or absence) of the caulohymenium with spore-bearing caulobasidia on the stipe surface is here considered as a significant ge neric character of boletes. A new combination, Pseudoboletus astraeicola (Imazeki) Šutara, is proposed. Key words: Boletaceae, Suillaceae, generic taxonomy, anatomical characters. Šutara J. Je předložen taxonomický přehled středoevropských rodů čeledí Boletaceae a.

CZECH MYCOL. 60(1): 29–62, 2008 Xerocomus s. l. in the light of the present state of knowledge JOSEF ŠUTARA Prosetická 239, 415 01 Teplice, Czech Republic [email protected] Šutara J. (2008): Xerocomus s. l. in the light of the present state of knowledge. – Czech Mycol. 60(1): 29–62. The definition of the generic limits of Xerocomus s. l. and particularly the delimitation of this genus from Boletus is very unclear and controversial. During his study of European species of the Boletaceae, the author has come to the conclusion that Xerocomus in a wide concept is a heterogeneous mixture of several groups of species. These groups are separated from each other by different anatomical and some other characters. Also recent molecular studies show that Xerocomus s. l. is not a monophyletic group. In agreement with these facts, the European species of Xerocomus s. l. whose anatomy was studied by the present author are here classified into the following, more distinctly delimited genera: Xerocomus s. str., Phylloporus, Xerocomellus gen. nov., Hemileccinum gen. nov. and Pseudoboletus. Boletus badius and Boletus moravicus, also often treated as species of Xerocomus, are retained for the present in the genus Boletus. The differences between Xerocomus s. str., Phylloporus, Xerocomellus, Hemileccinum, Pseudoboletus and Boletus (which is related to this group of genera) are discussed in detail. Two new genera, Xerocomellus and Hemileccinum, and necessary new combinations of species names are proposed. Key words: Boletaceae, Xerocomus, Xerocomellus, Hemileccinum, generic taxonomy, anatomy, histology. Šutara J. (2008): Rod Xerocomus s. l. ve světle současného stavu znalostí. – Czech Mycol.

These sequestrate, hypogeous fungi were collected Boletineae in Guyana under closed canopy tropical forests in association with ectomycorrhizal (ECM) host tree genera Caesalpinioideae Dicymbe (Fabaceae subfam. Caesalpinioideae), Aldina (Fabaceae subfam. Papilionoideae), and Pakaraimaea Dipterocarpaceae (Dipterocarpaceae). Molecular data place these fungi in Boletaceae (Boletales, Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota) ectomycorrhizal fungi and inform their relationships to other known epigeous and sequestrate taxa within that family. Macro- and gasteroid fungi micromorphological characters, habitat, and multi-locus DNA sequence data are provided for each new taxon. Eth- nomycological information was gathered using semi-structured interviews with participants from different mycological associations in Serbia. A total of 62 participants were involved in this study. Eighty-five species belonging to 28 families were identified. All of the reported fungal species were pointed out as edible, and only 15 of them were declared as medicinal. The family Boletaceae was represented by the highest number of species, followed by Russulaceae, Agaricaceae and Polypo- raceae. We also performed detailed analysis of the literature in order to provide scientific evidence for the recorded medicinal use of fungi in Serbia. The male participants reported a higher level of ethnomycological knowledge compared to women, whereas the highest number of used fungi species was mentioned by participants within the age group of 61–80 years. In addition to preserving Citation: Živkovi´c,J.; Ivanov, M.; ethnomycological knowledge in Serbia, this study can present a good starting point for further Stojkovi´c,D.; Glamoˇclija,J.

Mycorrhizal mushroom biodiversity in PAH-polluted areas Case Somerharju, Finland Marina Yemelyanova Degree Thesis for Bachelor of Natural Resources The Degree Programme in Sustainable Coastal Management Raseborg 2016 BACHELOR’S THESIS Author: Marina Yemelyanova Degree program: Sustainable Coastal Management Supervisors: Patrik Byholm, Lu-Min Vaario Title: Mycorrhizal mushroom biodiversity in PAH-polluted areas: case Somerharju, Finland _________________________________________________________________________ Date: May 4, 2016 Number of pages: 40 Appendices: 9 _________________________________________________________________________ Summary Presence of mycorrhizal fungi affects the phytoremediation efficiency on PAH-polluted soils: fungi participate in the soil bioremediation per se and, as symbionts with living trees, help the trees to survive under the pollution and other harsh environmental conditions. This thesis initiates a study of a mycorrhizal mushroom community on the Somerharju phytoremediation project site in Finland. An inventory of the mycorrhizal mushrooms concerning mushroom abundance, species richness and biodiversity was done during the season of 2015. The distribution of the mushrooms over the site was analyzed in relation to PAH-pollution levels and tree cuttings on the site. A significant dependence of fungal species richness and biodiversity on a cutting type was detected. The dependence of mushroom abundance, species richness and biodiversity on a PAH-pollution level was not statistically significant. Tolerance of

It is a morphologically intermediate taxon between Phylloporus and Xerocomus since its hymenophore is lamellate around the stipe but strongly anastomosing to distinctly faveolate or poroid towards pileus margin. Molecular analyses of nuclear rDNA ITS and LSU sequences, however, indicate that it has a closer genetic relationship with Xerocomus than with Phylloporus. Key words— Basidiomycota, Boletaceae, Boletales, phylogeny, taxonomy Introduction Phylloporus Quél. and Xerocomus Quél. belong to the family Boletaceae and have a close relationship, whether Phylloporus has been considered as a primitive group in the family (Corner 1972) or as a derived genus next to Xerocomus (Binder 1999; Binder & Hibbett 2006). Molecular data have shown the Xerocomus subtomentosus complex to be closely related to Phylloporus (Binder 1999). The lamellate hymenophore inPhylloporus and the wide poroid or tubular one in Xerocomus are still used as the main morphological characters for differentiating the two genera (Neves & Halling 2010; Neves et al. 2012). Worldwide, Phylloporus encompasses about 70 named species (Neves et al. 2012), 21 of which have been reported from China (Teng 1963; Zang & Zeng 1978; Li et al.

  • ECOLOGY and DISTRIBUTION of MUSHROOM SPECIES BELONGING to the GENERA Boletus and Xerocomus in AZERBAIJAN
BAKI UNİVERSİTETİNİN XƏBƏRLƏRİ №1 Təbiət elmləri seriyası 2015 ECOLOGY AND DISTRIBUTION OF MUSHROOM SPECIES BELONGING TO THE GENERA Boletus AND Xerocomus IN AZERBAIJAN *M.B.MERELAS, **D.N.AGHAYEVA, **A.S.SADIGOV *Universidade da Coruña. Campus da Zapateira. 15071 - A Coruña, Spain **nstitute of Botany, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. 40, Badamdar highway, [email protected], [email protected] Boletus Dill. ex Fr. and Xerocomus Quél. are phylogenetically closely related genera. These genera include numerous species. The purpose of this study was to characterize speci- mens belonging to these genera collected in various parts of Azerbaijan based on morphologi- cal features. The genus Boletus was identified as B. calopus, B. appendiculatus, B. edulis, B. erythropus, B. luridus and B. purpureus. The genus Xerocomus is represented with X. badius, X. chrysenteron, X. rubellus, X. spadiceus and X. subtomentosus species. Ecological charac- teristics and distribution of species belonging to both genera are also studied. Key words: species, morphology, ecology, Boletus, Xerocomus The genera Boletus Dill. ex Fr. and Xerocomus Quél. reside to Boletales (Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota). Boletales characterized with a large diversi- ty of forms of fruiting bodies. Namely, there has been extensive homoplasy in the evolution of this group [Binder, Hibbett 2006]. Within section Boletus, the species concept and species delimitation has been a matter of dispute, resulting in a fairly large number of specific and infraspecific names and a complex no- menclatural history [Beugelsdijk et al. 2008]. Many classifications have been made according to the different characters studied but experts have been unable to reach a consensus. Relationships of species among the genus have consider- ably been clarified by molecular data [Leonardi et al.

The new species is morphologically distinctive because of its small basidioma, greyish ruby to purplish red pileus hairs or scales, reddish purple stipe, and yellow tubes with reddish purple pores. Its rDNA ITS sequence differs from any known sequence of Xerocomus and Boletus. The holotype is deposited in the Fungal Herbarium of Guangdong Institute of Microbiology (GDGM). Key word — taxonomy, Boletales Introduction Xerocomus, which is considered to have a broad concept, is a heterogeneous mixture of several groups of species (Singer 1986, Ladurner & Simonini 2003) and is not monophyletic (Šutara 2008). Some mycologists have incorporated Xerocomus into Boletus, whereas others still treat it as an independent genus (Watling & Hills 2005, Hills 2008). At least 45 Xerocomus species have been reported in China (Bi et al. 1993, 1997; Chiu 1948, 1957; Li & Song 2000, 2003; Teng 1939, 1963; Zang 1996, 2006; Zang et al.
