Citation: Institute for Regional Studies, NDSU, Fargo (item number) BIOGRAPHY Thorstina Jackson was born to Icelandic immigrants Thorleifur Joakimson Jackson and Gudrún Jónsdóttir in Pembina County, N.D., in 1887. She attended the United College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, earning a degree in modern languages. After completing college, she taught school until after World War I. She went to Germany and France, serving as a social worker. Coming back to the United States, Thorstina completed her post-graduate work at Columbia University in 1924, and from there started her lecture and writing career on Iceland and Icelandic Americans. In 1926 she received the Icelandic Order of the Knights Cross of the Order of the Falcon from King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland for her lectures and studies in Iceland and Icelandic settlements in America. She was also very involved in the Photo 2010 Thorstina and Émile Walters Photograph Collection Page 2 of 5 preparations for Iceland’s landmark Millennial Celebration in 1930, and so received the Order of the Millennial Celebration for her efforts.

With its more than 2500 square meters, the Espace Ravel within Monaco’s cultural center provides a unique setting for a spectacular presentation. This year, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco’s summer exhibition coincides with an exceptional event: the marriage of HSH the prince Albert II with Mademoiselle Charlene Wittstock. As an echo of this great moment in the life of the Principality, the Grimaldi Forum has chosen as its summer exhibition theme The Magnificence and Grandeur of the Courts of Europe. The exhibition will be shown from July 11 to September 11. This genuine voyage back in time, from the 17th up to the 20th century, will enable visitors for the first time ever to enter into twenty European Courts, where they will encounter the great imperial and royal figures.     From the Private Collection of Queen Alexandrine of Denmark An Imperial wedding gift from Tsar Nicholas II and Tsaritsa Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia 990 C. E. BOLIN, ST. PETERSBURG Mecklenburg-Schwerin, on the occasion of her wed- 1897 -1898, APPARENTLY ding with Prince Christian of Denmark on 26 April UN MARKED,BUT MOST LIKELY 1898 in Cannes. Prince Christian was the grandchild of "The Russian Sapphire Tiara". A unique Imperi- Christian IX of Denmark and the son of Frederick VIII al and Royal Russian sapphire tiara, set with eight of Denmark. Prince Christian and Princess Alexandrine, oval-cut sapphires, as well as numerous old mine- therefore, became Crown Prince and Princess after the and single-cut diamonds.
