Songwriters Speak
SONGWRITERS SPEAK Conversations about creating music by Debbie Kruger Published by Limelight Press, August 2, 2005 RRP $49.95 CD will be released through Festival Mushroom Records July 25, 2005. “This cathartic thing of songwriting, it’s got to be the most wonderful gift.” Richard Clapton SONGWRITERS SPEAK gives a unique insight into the lives of our best known songwriters. It is the first collection of in-depth interviews with the creative powerhouses of the Australian and international music industry. In SONGWRITERS SPEAK, Debbie Kruger interviewed 45 songwriters from Australia and New Zealand whose work in rock, pop and country music has left an indelible imprint on the cultural landscape and whose songs have left an enduring impression on Australia's psyche. This book gets inside the hearts and minds of some of our greatest musical poets and asks questions about how inspiration is sparked, whether songwriters are born or made, and where, ultimately, songs come from. In candid face-to-face interviews, these tunesmiths discuss their successful careers, share their thoughts on tapping into the creative source and tell the stories behind classic songs including “The Real Thing”, “Eagle Rock”, “Khe Sanh”, “Deep Water”, “Down Under”, “Age of Reason”, “Beds Are Burning”, and “Truly Madly Deeply”. Debbie uncovered some interesting and quirky facts such as: • The Easybeats’ London manager tried to get some of his own lyrics into “Friday On My Mind”. If he’d had his way, one verse would have begun with the line, “For a chick doll you’re a drag.” • The Seekers’ Bruce Woodley, who wrote the anthemic “I Am Australian”, is one of the few songwriters in the world to have co-written with Paul Simon. -

Little River Band
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY 11, 2009 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT PRESENTS LITTLE RIVER BAND LIVE AT THE RIVER ROCK SHOW THEATRE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 Richmond, BC – Little River Band was the first Australian band to successfully conquer foreign markets from an Australian base. Within eight months of their birth in 1975, they had already scored three Australian Top 20 singles and two Top Ten albums. Then in 1976, their self-titled album was released in the US and Canada and they began their first of many tours across North America. Headlining their own major shows and touring internationally with the likes of The Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, America and The Eagles was a huge learning curve that honed Little River Band into one of the finest live bands. Record success ran alongside … total record sales around the world eclipsed the twenty-five million mark with sixteen hit singles by 1985 as well as gold, platinum and multi-platinum album sales awards. Their hits include “It’s a Long Way There,” “Help Is On Its Way,” “Happy Anniversary,” “Reminiscing,” “Lady,” “Lonesome Loser” and “Cool Change.” Today, Little River Band is as strong as ever … there is a new fusion of spontaneity, rock & roll and blues anchored by American bass player, Wayne Nelson who joined the band in 1980 and made his debut a year later as lead vocalist on the band’s hits … “Night Owls,” “Take It Easy On Me” and “Man On Your Mind.” Guitarist and vocalist, Greg Hind has been an integral part of the band’s current sound since 2000. -
