The debate soon mainly focused on the surmised falsification of the drawings, supposedly copies after the originals made by the French archaeologist Georges Perrot, which were retrieved from the estate of professor James Mellaart (1925-2012). This debate goes on, even though practically no one as yet ever has seen the drawings. The editors of Talanta are aware of the fact that James Mellaart has been invol- ved in a series of forgery cases, particularly the so-called Dorak affair (for a brief review on this see, e.g., <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorak_affair>) and his publication of non-documented wallpaintings and tablets from Catalhöyük (for the paintings and his (ab)use of them see, e.g., <http://www.marlamallett.com/ chupdate.htm>).

Best wishes to all Nestor readers in the New Year. I Am the Very Model of a Mycenaean Megaron I am the very model of a Mycenaean megaron. Topographer and tourist by the dozens I’m no beggar on. I’ve seen the lives of Neleus and Nestor and their hangers on, Carl Blegen, Mike Galaty, and a whole lot more I’m vaguer on. I am the very model of a Mycenaean megaron. I’m very well acquainted too with tablets that are linear. My frescoes tell of octopods and fishes that are finnyer. Anterooms and tholos tombs I’m not the least bit hazy on. I even cite dimensions of the one at Koryphasion. I’m very big on porticoes and columns that are upside down. My stirrup jars and amphoras and all my pithoi do astound. Had we a Clytemnestra here, my bathtub sure would turn her on. I am the very model of a Mycenaean megaron. Archaeologues and philologues and linguists they do treat me fine.

Zurich, Switzerland, 12 May 2016 – a Scientific Publication, Book And
Zurich, Switzerland, 12 May 2016 – A scientific publication, book and comprehensive website (www.luwianstudies.org) made public today by scientists at the Luwian Studies foundation in Zurich, Switzerland, advance and add weight to the view that Aegean prehistory (3000–1200 BCE) suffers from a pro-European bias. The civilizations of the Bronze Age Aegean recognized until now – the Mycenaean, Minoan and Cycladic – together cover only about one third of the Aegean coasts. The definition of these cultures goes back to Knossos excavator Arthur Evans, who with his publications in the 1920s laid the foundation for the research discipline of Aegean prehistory. At that time, Greece and Turkey were at war. Since the philhellene Evans aimed to steer research interest towards Greece, his model disregarded cultures on Anatolian soil – despite the fact that Troy, the most important stratified archaeological site in the world, is situated in Anatolia. Civilizations that have been investigated for over 100 years (blue) cover only a small part of the Aegean coasts. The newly recognized Luwian culture occupied much of the remainder. On their foundation’s website, researchers at Luwian Studies have today published a comprehensive database of Middle and Late Bronze Age archaeological sites in western Turkey. This unique catalog is the result of several years of literature research and field surveys. It currently covers over 340 expansive settlements, including their coordinates and aerial photographs. More details will be added during the course of the year as part of a project in collaboration with the University of Zurich. Geographic information systems have placed the settlements into context with rivers, lakes, mineral deposits, trade routes, flood plains and farmland to provide quantifiable data on the relationship between humans and the landscape.

Zangger's Flood from Heaven: Was Atlantis Troy?
Jerry Culley - December 3rd, 1994 Zangger’s Flood from Heaven: Was Atlantis Troy? Eberhard Zangger’s book, Flood from Heaven, uses Plato’s Timaeus and Critias plus archaological investigations on the Trojan plain to show that the historical destruction of Troy was the origin of the legendary destruction of Atlantis and that this has been obscured by major errors in reading/interpreting the sources on the location of Atlantis and Plato’s initial failure to understand Atlantis was Troy. Critias had supposedly been told by his ancestors (Solon had the story from an old Egyptian priest a Sais) that an island out near the pillars of Heracles once was preparing to take over the world. Only the Greeks, especially the Athenians, prepared to oppose them, but, on the same day, the Greek army was swallowed up and Atlantis disappeared. Now where was this Atlantis? Where were the pillars of Heracles? According to archaeologist Richard Henning, the term was not applied to the straits of Gibraltar before 500 BC. Servius, on the Aeneid ii. 262, says columnas Herculis legimuset in Ponto et in Hispania (“We read of pillars of Hercules both in the Black Sea and in Spain”.) Herodotus is the first to use the term “Atlantic Ocean” (Hist i. 202) and there is no evidence of eastern Mediterranean peoples of the Bronze Age beyond the pillars of Hercules. Phys Carpenter says that, since there are no islands in Egypt, the hieroglyph for island properly = “sandy tract/shore of any foreign land”. Media Release Luwian Hieroglyphic Inscription Explains the End of the Bronze Age A unique find from 1878 has been rediscovered – The Great King of Mira relates his conquests in the Hittite realm – The Sea Peoples came from Western Asia Minor Zurich, Switzerland, 7 October 2017 – An interdisciplinary team of Swiss and Dutch archaeologists today announced the rediscovery of a 29-meter-long Luwian hieroglyphic inscription that describes the events at the end of the Bronze Age in the Eastern Mediterranean. One of the greatest puzzles of Mediterranean archeology can thus be plausibly solved. The 35-cm tall limestone frieze was found back in 1878 in the village of Beyköy, approximately 34 kilometers north of Afyonkarahisar in modern Turkey. It bears the longest known hieroglyphic inscription from the Bronze Age. Soon after local peasants retrieved the stones from the ground, the French archeologist Georges Perrot was able to carefully copy the inscription. However, the villagers subsequently used the stones as building material for the foundation of their mosque. From about 1950 onwards, Luwian hieroglyphs could be read. At the time, a Turkish/US- American team of experts was established to translate this and other inscriptions that during the 19th century had made their way into the collections of the Ottoman Empire. However, the publication was delayed again and again. Ultimately, around 1985, all the researchers involved in the project had died. Copies of these inscriptions resurfaced recently in the estate of the English prehistorian James Mellaart, who died in 2012. In June 2017, Mellaart’s son Alan handed over this part of the legacy to the Swiss geoarcheologist Dr.
