Rival farmers’ market opens in downtown MV A new farmers’ market kicked off last week in downtown Mountain View, with timing that directly rivals Los Altos’ own. The 5-8 p.m. Thursday evening market, scheduled to run through September, is located in the civic parking lot near California and Bryant streets. California Farmers’ Markets Association, which had also previ- ously managed market operations in Los Altos, launched the new market and continues to operate the Sunday morning market at the Mountain View Caltrain station. This year the Los Altos Village Association switched providers to contract with Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association to run the 4-8 p.m. Thursday market on State Street. The Bryant Street market included no hot-food trucks, which are often viewed by nearby restaurants as a source of competition during evening markets. The Los Altos market has also reduced its hot food offerings this year.
