The following plan contains several strategies for engaging South Baltimore neighborhoods in the city's vibrant cultural community. The four major areas of the plan cover Accessibility and Inclusion, Arts Education, Partnership, and Heritage. Each of areas aligns with the strategies outlined in the Gateway Master Plan: Strategies under the South Baltimore Gateway Master Plan • STRATEGY A: Support initiatives that address challenges within families and communities to improve student performance. • STRATEGY B: Ensure all residents have access to educational support and technology resources. • STRATEGY D: Preserve, enhance, and share information about historic resources. Accessibility Connecting South Baltimore residents to city wide arts and culture activities should be a constant goal. Eliminating barriers and increasing access through intentional planning creates new ways for people to engage and feel welcomed at arts and cultural activities and feel empowered to create their own events, activities and traditions. -

2015 Annual Report Transforming Baltimore with Trees Board of Directors 2015 Year In Review A Growing Organization: McElderry Park The Baltimore Tree Trust hires Associate Completed: Director Cassie Caleo and received The final trees were funding for a watering truck. planted in McElderry Park in honor of Seska Peck Ramberg and Warren Street, totaling 464 trees planting in 3 and a half years. First Bare Root Trees: We planted 156 bare root trees in the Ellwood Park neighborhood. January February March April First Corporate Greening Day: Community BB&T Lighthouse project planted Outreach: 21 street trees on Maryland Ave Green and 24th Street in Old Goucher. & Clean buckets were designed, received, & distributed in Old Goucher Ellwood Park, Completed: Old Goucher, and Federal BUCKETS FUNDED BY: With the help of more than Hill 300 volunteers we were able to plant 327 trees in Old Goucher in one and a half years. May June July August September 2 Days -100 Trees: Lifetime Achievements: In partnership with Volunteering Untapped we = 1,218 planted 100 new street trees in Total Trees Ellwood Park. Planted = 99 Certified Planting Leaders First Putting Down Roots 100 Tree Planting: = 33,744 Archbishop Curley High Square Feet of School: the first 100 trees were Impervious planted in November. Stability & Growth Careers Public Safety Education Health Services Capacity Building Community Engagement Inventory 2017 This is a working inventory of Johns Hopkins community engagement in Baltimore City, inclusive of student, staff and faculty participation in programs or organizations. On the Cover: Dayspring Programs Garden, Baltimore The Community Engagement Inventory (CEI) is a working inventory of Johns Hopkins community engagement in Baltimore City, inclusive of student, staff and faculty participation in programs or organizations. A searchable web interface version is available online at cds.johnshopkins. edu/cei. A print edition is produced annually. The CEI is compiled, managed and maintained by the Johns Hopkins Offi ce of Government and Community Aff airs (GCA). Government and Community Aff airs works to build and strengthen Johns Hopkins‘ relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders whose interest and support are vital to the mission of Johns Hopkins. GCA staff members serve both the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Health System by representing and coordinating the eff orts of both institutions at the federal, state, and local levels and in surrounding communities. The GCA Offi ce represents the multi-institutional Baltimore campuses in planning, implementing and coordinating comprehensive approaches to community issues. Through interfaces with a broad range of nonprofi ts and local community organizations working to improve health, education, housing, public safety, employment, and economic development, the Offi ce also plays a supporting role in a wide variety of community and economic development projects, all with the ultimate goal of improving quality of life in Baltimore City. With the streets rapidly filling with rotting garbage, the City Council was forced to hastily establish an alternate plan for disposing of its waste. As a short term plan, the Council decided to enter into a contract with a farmer who owned several wharves on Bear Creek in Baltimore County. The agreement specified that William F. Huse, the wharf owner, would buy the garbage from the City, the City would haul it to his wharves using scows, and from there it would be spread on farm land in the surrounding area as fertilizer. While the Council was considering its options for a temporary solution, local newspapers were publishing articles describing the situation and the alternatives being proposed. -
