The following Draft of a proposed Ordinance is published for general inform ation:— An Ordinance to enable the Chief Justice to be a Member of the Board of Arbitration constituted by a Lease • relating to the Pearl Fisheries on the Coast of Ceylon. ' Preamble. \ i / HEREAS by an indenture of lease dated the Tenth day V V ~of July; 1906, and made between Sir Ernest Edward. T h3s object of this Ordinance is to remove doubts with respect to the legality of the Chief Justice acting'as a member of the Board of Arbitration provided by the Lease of the Pearl Fishery for the deter mination of differences between the Government and the Lessees. T is hereby notified that the Council of Legal Education has, by resolution duly passed at a meeting held I on the 19th day of October, 1906, dispensed with the subjects prescribed in rule 8 of Schedule III. to “ The Courts Ordinance, 1889,” for the Preliminary Examination of Proctor candidates, and in rule 35 of the said Schedule for the Preliminary Examination of Advocate candidates, and substituted therefor the following:— Preliminary Examination for Proctors. The Preliminary Examination for the admission of Proctors, from and after the 1st day of October, 1907, shall b e :— (1) The Matriculation Examination of the University of London ; or (2) The First Examination in Arts of any Indian University ; or (3) The Senior Local Examination of the University of Cambridge, provided the Cambridge Certi ficate includes a pass in— (d) English Language and Literature. (fi) Latin. Preliminary Examination for Advocates. The Preliminary Examination for the admission of Advocates, from and after the 1st day of October,. 1907, shall be :— The Intermediate Examination in Arts or Science of the University of London. Graduates in Arts or Science of any University in the United Kingdom or in India or any British Colony will be exempted from the above-mentioned qualifying examinations.
