My Time at Canadian Forces Station Alert period of time doing a job in a spectacular environment was by far one of the highlights of my career. During the summer of 2018 and again in February 2020 I was given the opportunity to fulfill the position of PSP Administrator at CFS Alert. If you have been to Alert, you would have known it to be “Tradie”. “Tradie” is primarily responsible for managing the Trading Post and the Messes. It’s a busy job with long days but when you have downtime there’s lots to keep you entertained. I was lucky enough to spend a few months in Alert during 24 hours of daylight so I was able to explore the land. Some highlights include touring around in a Griffon helicopter; catching a glimpse of the Boxtop Flight 22 plane crash site from 1991; geo- caching; getting to explore ice-caves; taking an off-roading trip to Crystal Mountain, along with seeing wild life such as; arctic fox; polar bears; arctic hare; and the famous wolves that are no strangers to the station. I can say that the time I have spent there will never be quite enough and I would be thrilled if I get the opportunity to go back again one day!
