Existing Methods have Limitations: 1. Historical yield maps provide a nice starting point, but do not reflect current year’s conditions. 2. Core samples and leaf samples provide the most accurate “spot” measurements, but are costly and have low sample densities. 3. Aircraft imagery is pretty good, but limited revisit frequency, moderate resolution, and are somewhat costly. 4. Satellite imagery has scheduled global coverage, but restricted revisit times, poor revisit frequency, poor resolution, and problematic cover.

UAS-systems have a great potential for supporting (not replacing !!) loss adjustment in crop insurance, but: 1. Time lack from data acquisition to map product (new and efficient methods of data processing “in real time”) are needed. 2. dependance (, Rain, etc.). 3. Regulations by law in Germany and other EU-countries. 4. Cost/Benefit (economic) analysis and study to assess utility of loss adjustment information (result) provided. 5. Implementation of (semi-) automated loss processing algorithms.
