Taylor. Each of two winning Fellows will receive a $25,000 cash award for excellence in the art of screenwriting. "Minnesota Docuclubbers," a team of St. Paul-based documentary filmmakers, is a finalist in the Int'l Doc Challenge, a contest that requires making a short documentary in five days. The top 12 films premiere at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival in Toronto, where the winners will be announced. The team's short, "Tami Tushie's Toys," (directed by Melody Gilbert) is about a Minnesota mom who "does something she never thought she would do." The film recently screened at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. On April 12, a Twin Cities-based collective of filmmakers won "The 48 Hour Film Project Panasonic HD Filmmaker Showdown" with their film "Who's The Fairest," a tale of contemporary narcissism. The winning team includes: Dan Hundley (producer/DP) of Token Media, Matthew Olson (director/writer), Mitch Hansen (writer), Eric Nigg (writer/actor) and Patrick Pearson (editor). The group also won The 48 Hour Film Project for Minneapolis two years running (2008 and 2009). Their short film from 2009, "The Grave Review" was named First Runner-Up in the World, distinguishing itself in a field of 3,000 contestants. "The Path Is Hidden," a short film directed by Robert and Caitlin Hammel and produced by Perimeter Productions, was selected by the International Festival of Movement on Screen to show at the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology and 14 other venues across Liverpool, UK, from April 21st to the 25th. Previously, the film was an official selection of the 2009 Danse Kamera Istanbul Film Festival. Spotlight On: Sound Unseen Int'l Duluth Minneapolis-based Sound Unseen film festival is expanding its international film and music fest to Duluth. Working outside the Hollywood system with a bare-bones crew, Reichardt’s road movies address contemporary class identities and challenge American myths. The film series includes Wendy and Lucy (starring Michelle Williams), Old Joy (starring Will Oldham), River of Grass and a dialogue between director Reichardt and critic/programmer Scott Foundas on May 8th at 8 p.m. Film tickets are $8 ($6 Walker members). Sound Unseen Presents Two Music Docs On Wednesday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m. Sound Unseen continues its monthly screening series of films on music with a double feature of short documentaries, both Minnesota premieres. Director Spenser Simrill will be present for his film, "of Montreal: Family Nouveau," about the avant-garde psychedelic rock group from Athens, Georgia. The short "Cannon Falls," about legendary Pachyderm Studio, will screen before "Family Nouveau." The screening takes place at TRYLON microcinema (3258 Minnehaha Ave S) in Minneapolis. Preview Screening Of SOLO: 1x2 SOLO: 1x2, a documentary that examines the creative process of dance, will screen on May 8th, 7:30 p.m., at the U of M's Bell Museum Auditorium. The film was produced by Robert C. Hammel, Michele Blanchard and Caitlin Hammel and follows six McKnight Dance Fellows as they create unique solos. The .EDU Film Festival Showcases Student Films The Third Annual .EDU Film Festival will take place at St. Anthony Main Theater in Minneapolis on May 14th and 15th. The festival is the only school-sponsored, statewide, student festival in Minnesota and gives high school students a chance to view each other's work, increase their knowledge of the film industry and see their films on the big screen. This year the festival will exhibit on two screens to allow for the screening of more films and Minneapolis Television Network will host a day of tech demos, tapings and interview opportunities at the MTN Studios, located at St. Anthonly Main. The audience will vote for their favorite based on the first 15 pages read by professional actors.
