COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFICIATING, LLC The 2020 Shaw / Blandino Weekly Quiz Week 1 This quiz is being provided on a weekly basis to promote robust crew discussions and further individual rules study. It is in no way intended to be official play interpretations, as those are contained within Part II of the 2020 NCAA Football Rules and are updated by official CFO Play Interpretation Bulletins when released during the season. These quizzes will be released on Wednesday of each game week, with answers being provided on the following Monday. The first eight questions are focused around on-field rulings, and the final two questions are focused on Instant Replay. All officials should be familiar with and work both sets of questions. In most states, the NFHS rule book serves as the foundational rules system for the youth game. FOOTBALL TEST REVIEW SHEET 1. In order for a touchdown to be counted, the ball must cross the goal line, not just the player. 2. The team can score 2 extra points if they return a blocked extra point. 3. The distance of a football field is 100 yds. 4. 4th down is considered a punting down. The punting down is when you fail to get a first down. 5. To get a first down, a player must move the ball 10 yds. 6. The team receives 3 pts for a field goal. 7. Each team is given 6 timeouts per game; Three each half. 8. The quarterback is an offensive player. 9. The kick after the touchdown is called the extra point; it is worth 1 pt. 10. When a receiver is hit by grabbing the jersey or being pushed while running, while trying to catch a pass, it is called pass interference. 11. When the player returning the punt waves their hand in the air, it is called a fair catch. 12. When a game ends in a tie, it goes into overtime. 13. Each quarter lasts 12 mins. 14. A reception is when the ball is caught on offense. 15. An interception is when the defense catches the ball. 16. When a punt is blocked, it can be advanced for a touchdown. 17. Three major penalties are holding, clipping, and a personal foul. 18. There are 11 players on the field at one time for each team. 19. If the defense recovers a fumble in the offenses end zone, it is a touchdown. -

Flag Football Rules Divisions Men’s and Women’s Leagues are offered Sub divisions may be created upon need of skill level 1. Team Requirements 1.1 A team shall consist of seven players. A team can play with a minimum of 6 players. 1.2 The offensive team must have 4 players within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage at the time of the snap. 1.3 All players must have checked in with the scorekeeper and be recorded on the game sheet before they are allowed to participate. 1.4 Substitutions are allowed between plays and during time-outs. 1.5 All games shall be played on the date and hour scheduled. BE ON TIME. 2. Equipment and Facilities 2.1 All players must wear shoes. 2.2 Rubber cleated shoes will be allowed. No metal screw-in cleats, open toe, open heel or hard soled shoes will be allowed. 2.3 Each player must wear pants or shorts without any belt(s), belt loop(s), pockets(s) or exposed drawstrings. A player may turn his/her shorts inside-out or tape his/her pockets in order to play. 2.4 All jewelry must be removed before participating. 2.5 Towels may not be worn, a towel may be kept behind the play. 2.6 Equipment such as helmets, billed hats, pads or braces worn above the waist, leg and knee braces made of hard, unyielding substances, or casts is strictly prohibited. Knee braces made of hard, unyielding substances covered on both sideswith all edges overlapped and any other hard substances covered with at least 2 inch of slow recovery rubber or similar material will be allowed. -

University of California, Merced - Intramurals Flag Football Rules Intramural flag football games will be conducted under the rules of the NIRSA – National Intramural/Recreational Sports Association – with the following modifications. GENERAL INFORMATION 1. All participants must have their current valid UCM ID with them to participate. No player will be allowed to play without their own valid UCM ID. Players must have also completed the registration process and joined the team on IMLeagues. 2. The players must check-in with the supervisor on duty, which will check their UCM ID and verify completion on IMLeagues. 3. A player may play for ONE men’s or women’s team. Any intercollegiate football player that participated in the 2017 football season at any collegiate institution is ineligible to participate in intramural football. 4. Teams may add players under the following circumstances: a. The player must not have played for another team in their respective division. b. The player must have a joined the team for that sport. c. The player must show his/her valid UCM ID to the supervisor to check-in prior to the game. 5. All men’s and women’s divisions play 7 on 7 flag football. 6. See the attached diagram for field layout and dimensions. Protests: Protests are not allowed on judgment calls. Team managers may protest a misapplication of the rule before the snap of the next play to staff on duty. The supervisor and officials will decide before the next play. The team manager may protest the game at that point if they believe that the decision is still incorrect. -

American football gained fame as the people wanted to detach themselves from the English influence. The father of this sport Walter Camp altered the shape and size of the ball to an oval-shaped ball called ovoid ball and drawn up some unique set of rules. Objective American Football is played on a four sided ground with goalposts at each end. The two opposing teams are named as the Offense and the Defense, The offensive team with control of the ovoid ball, tries to go ahead down the field by running and passing the ball, while the defensive team without control of the ball, targets to stop the offensive team’s advance and tries to take control of the ball for themselves. The main objective of the sport is scoring maximum number of goals by moving forward with the ball into the opposite team's end line for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the challenger's goalposts which is counted as a goal and the team gets points for the goal. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins. THE HIGH SCHOOL KICKING GAME Part I FRIDAY’S NIGHTMARE Several years ago I worked up a training program covering the high school kicking game. I divided the kicking game into 4 phases; kickoffs, punts, field goal attempts and try attempts by kick. In the interest of brevity I will address these in different articles. The format I am using is to give the plays in a list followed by a key to discuss what is to be done for each play and why. Some are very simple plays while others may be very complicated and require an adequate knowledge of the rules. KICKOFF: 1. K encroaches. 2. K encroaches. After penalty enforcement K kicks the ball out of bounds. 3. R encroaches. 4. The kicker approaches the ball but misses it. 5. K’s kick goes beyond the 50-yard line in the air, and is blown back to K’s 47-yard line. 6. K commits first touching of a grounded kick. 7. K first touches a kick in the air (the ball has not touched the ground). 8. R muffs the kick on K’s 49. 9. R muffs the kick on R’s 49. 10. R doesn’t cover a grounded kick on his 45-yard line. 11. R1, standing inbounds, muffs the kick which then lands out-of-bounds. 12. R1, standing out-of-bounds, touches or catches a kick which is also outside the sideline. Any difference if the kick is inside the sideline when touched? 13. In the neutral zone, K3 muffs the kick causing it to touch R1 who is in the neutral zone and inbounds, K then muffs the ball which goes out-of-bounds. -

FLAG FOOTBALL STUDY GUIDE Description of Game One hand or two hand touch football is a game which is similar to both rugby and American football. However, some major differences do exist: 1) The ball carrier is "stopped" when a defensive places one or two hands on offensive player carrying the football. 2) Blocking is not allowed, but in its place a technique called "shielding" is substituted. Both of these modifications are employed to insure safety. The ball is advanced toward the goal line only by means of the forward pass. All players are eligible pass receivers, including the center. History The game of football is an offshoot of both soccer and rugby. The colleges of Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Rutgers were among the first to play the game. Since 1869, regulation football rules have been added and are continuously being modified, even at the present time. The game of one or two hand touch football is merely a modification of regulation football. Some of the major differences between one/two hand touch football and regulation football are the rules regarding "no body contact" and no diving. The one/two hand touch football game which you play in class is a modification of regulation football. The modifications which are made will provide for a safer, more practical and enjoyable activity. Scoring 1. Touchdown = 6 points. 2. Safety = 2 points.
