DLSU Physics Alumni Tracking Study The Physic Alumni Tracer was initiated to determine the present conditions of the DLSU Physics Graduates from 1978 to the current year. The tracer would like to initially verify the following: 1. The effectiveness and relevance of a physics degree as a resource and credential for employment/job placement upon graduation from DLSU 2. The relevance of physics degree and research the current job function and professional development of the physics graduates in their respective fields. 3. The professional status and ranks of the physics graduates in their respective employments. 4. To assess the gender awareness of physics graduates in their respective professions. Based on the tracer study of the whereabouts of the physics graduates from 1978 to present, the pie chart in Figure 1 shows the percent distribution of the physics graduates where the highest is from Medicine (24%) and the lowest is the BPO (2%). Almost all graduates from the BS PREMED Physics program takes up Medicine while graduates of the BS Physics, BS Physics with Computer Applications, BS Physics with Medical Instrumentation, and BS Physics with specialization in Materials Science program takes up Master’s degrees, PhD, and Doctor of Engineering. Some of these graduates also goes into the IT (19%) business. Since graduates of the BS Physics with minor in Economics and Finance are just starting up their careers, data on the said programs are very low at the meantime. Job Distribution of DLSU Physics Graduates from 1978 to 2013 Physics Graduates of the 70’s and 80’s are currently in the administrative level of industries and companies, (See Table 1) while some went into the academe. A very small population became managers and CEO’s of their own company. With the advent of computers in the 90’s, physics graduates who took computer applications increased in population (see Figure 2), and after graduation, went into the IT and careers that are allied with the Physics programs such as Environmental Science and Engineering. The increase in the number of female physics graduates came along when the BS PREMED Physics program were offered in the late 90’s (see Figure 3). Based on the gender distribution, 57% account for the male while 43 % are female graduates. The BS Physics PREMED graduates in the late 90’s and 2005 graduates are now consultants in the top hospitals in the country (See Table 1) while the 2010 BS Premed Physics graduates are currently into their specialization.
