ear Residents of , and North Thores- by, it has come to our Dattention that some of you may still be una- ware of what a fantastic village hall we have and that you can hire it for your event. So on March 11th we would like to invite you to have afternoon tea with us (free!) at the vil- lage Hall between 2 – 4pm. Come and see the wonderful facilities we have here, meet our super caretaker Mark who can advise you on how to make a booking and grab a cuppa and cake while you’re at it. Members of the Par- ish Council will also be there to ask about your views on village life and our plans for the future including the latest plans for com- munity led, speed reduction with Cllr Graeme Croft and his speed guns! Bring the kids along as there will be craft activities and toys to keep them happy and did I mention free cake? We hope to see lots of you there. North Thoresby, Grainsby & Waithe Parish Councillors.

As I’m sure you remember from last edi- tion, we have taken the decision to put into print the memoirs of North Thoresby’s own and fan of this newsletter, Nancy Blyth who we sadly lost last year. She spent her entire life in and around the village and her memoirs, written in 1996, allow us to see a different village to the one we live in now.

(This was until the site of this cottage.) - To be continued next edition recently the home of the Rev. Gordon and Mrs Margaret Durrant, having been much altered.)

Across the road from Mr Larder’s, on the right was Mr J. Hewins’ shop (part of a row owned until his recent death by Mr Porter). He was a bicycle repairer who lived with his sister; together they owned a sweet shop, which his sister ran. Everyone knew that she used to chop sweets in half by the use of a sharp knife and a poker, to make sure the exact weight of your purchase!

Just down from the Hewins’s was the Post Office, run at the time by Mr Cecil Bradbury, whose father was the North Thoresby stationmas- ter. The Post Office did move from one site to another around the village, but I remember it in at the end of the village dance hall, parti- tioned off and facing the street. (In recent years it was a builder’s store, then demolished for a new housing development. Foundry House is on the site where it used to be.)
