1 Photo: Alex Hurst REDUX This Redux box set is on the 30 Hertz Records label, which I started in 1997. Many of the tracks on this box set originated on 30 Hertz. I did have a label in the early eighties called Lago, on which I released some of my first solo records. These were re-released on 30 Hertz Records in the early noughties. 30 Hertz Records was formed in order to give me a refuge away from the vagaries of corporate record companies. It was one of the wisest things I have ever done. It meant that, within reason, I could commission myself to make whatever sort of record took my fancy. For a prolific artist such as myself, it was a perfect situation. No major record company would have allowed me to have released as many albums as I have. At the time I formed the label, it was still a very rigid business; you released one album every few years and ‘toured it’ in the hope that it became a blockbuster. On the other hand, my attitude was more similar to most painters or other visual artists. I always have one or two records on the go in the same way they always have one or two paintings in progress. My feeling has always been to let the music come, document it by releasing it then let the world catch up in its own time. Hopefully, my new partnership with Cherry Red means that Redux signifies a new beginning as well as documenting the past. -

Gender Dynamics in TV Series The Fall: Whose fall is it? Adriana Saboviková, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia1 Abstract This paper examines gender dynamics in the contemporary TV series The Fall (BBC 2013 - 2016). This TV series, through its genre of crime fiction, represents yet another way of introducing a strong female character in today’s postfeminist culture. Gillian Anderson’s Stella Gibson, a Brit and a woman, finds herself in the men’s world of the Police Service in Belfast, where the long shadow of the Troubles is still present. The paper proposes that the answer to the raised question - who the eponymous fall (implied in the name of the series) should be attributed to - might not be that obvious, while also discussing The Fall’s take on feminism embodied in its female lead. Keywords: female detectives, The Fall, TV crime drama, postfeminism Introduction Troubled history is often considered to be the reason for Northern Ireland being described as a nation of borderlines - not only obvious physical ones but also imagined. This stems from the conflict that has been described most commonly in terms of identities - based on culture, religion, and even geography. The conflict that has not yet been completely forgotten as the long shadow of the Troubles (local name, internationally known as the Northern Ireland conflict) is still present in the area. Nolan and Hughes (2017) describe Northern Ireland as “living apart together” separated by physical barriers. These locally called peace walls had to be erected to separate and, at the same time, protect the communities. -

#Time’sUp on Patriarchal Narratives of Rape on Screen: The Potentialities of a Female Gaze by Victoria Michelle Yates A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment for the requirements for the degree of MA (by Research) at the University of Central Lancashire May 2019 STUDENT DECLARATION FORM Type of Award: MA (by Research) School: School of Humanities and Social Sciences 1. Concurrent registration for two or more academic awards I declare that while registered as a candidate for the research degree, I have not been a registered candidate or enrolled student for another award of the University or other academic or professional institution 2. Material submitted for another award I declare that no material contained in the thesis has been used in any other submission for an academic award and is solely my own work 3. Collaboration Where a candidate’s research programme is part of a collaborative project, the thesis must indicate in addition clearly the candidate’s individual contribution and the extent of the collaboration. Please state below: Not applicable 4. Use of a Proof-reader No proof-reading service was used in the compilation of this thesis. Signature of Candidate: Victoria Yates Print name: Victoria Yates Abstract In this research I utilise critical feminist media theory to examine the various discourses of rape presented in televised fictions of sexual violence. In undertaking a Foucauldian discourse analysis I explore patriarchal discursive manoeuvring, the enduring presence of the male gaze, and the emerging potential for feminist discourses of sexual violence alongside a female gaze, as a political endeavour and opportunity for social change. -

The Big Midweek: Life Inside the Fall PDF Book
THE BIG MIDWEEK: LIFE INSIDE THE FALL PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Steve Hanley,Olivia Piekarski | 448 pages | 15 Jul 2016 | Route Publishing | 9781901927658 | English | Glasshoughton, Yorks, United Kingdom The Big Midweek: Life Inside the Fall PDF Book I love The Fall and MES is clearly a genius imho however it takes a brilliant book by the unsung Steve Hanley to really drive home the contribution of the many other band members over, as MES would say himself, "the long, long days of our youth. Absolutely crushing. A wonderful reminder of what it once meant to be in a genuinely dangerous and groundbreaking group. Utterly essential for The Fall fan in your life. Humorous and engaging. Mar 06, Jay Green rated it liked it. Hanley suffers; all The Fall suffers. One of the best books on music I've read in a long time. Other editions. Also a shout out to Colin, their Scottish roadie, whose proclamations Hanley writes phonetically, very funny. Following along and listening to their discography chronologically while reading was a revelation - would have appreciated an epilogue, though! Mainly this was because of the personality of Mark Edward Smith, one of the more obtuse characters to emerge from the nexus of northern punk. There are priceless Smith quotes that sound verbatim to anyone familiar with his turn of phrase. No trivia or quizzes yet. Nice to see Marc Riley come out of it well. The Fall always give you something other than what you expect: this superb book is just another example of this from the sufficiently, occasionally sober bassist who lived to tell the tale. -
