NORTHWEST FLORIDA SPECIES LIST This list, which contains shells found in the onshore and offshore waters of the Florida Panhandle, was prepared by the members of the Gulf Coast Shell Club. The list is arranged alphabetically by family. The numbers to the left of the shell name refer to the corresponding species as found in American Seashells, Second Edition by Dr R. Tucker Abbott. An asterisk indicates that a name change to the family, species, genus, (or all) has occurred since publication. Shells annotated with a superscript 1 indicate form names that may or may not be valid but are useful for identification. Shells annotated with a superscript 2 are shells from the 1994 Keeler and Robertson survey of the Apalachicola Marine Estuary and immediate offshore areas and represent species not currently held by GCSC members but that are deemed native to our area. Common name for the shell and its normal adult size range columns are included. There are 635 shells (including forms) on this list as of the latest update in March, 2013. Our thanks go to Dr. Harry Lee of the Jacksonville Shell Club for his assistance in this compilation. Three of the infected mollusks, American oysters, Crassostrea virginica (Gmelin), Atlantic bay scallops, Argopecten irradians concentricus (Say), and sunray venus clums, Manocallisfa nimhosa (Lightfoot), are important commercial species in the eastern Gulf and the remainder are occasionally eaten by epicurean shellfishermen or \vcre consumed by prehistoric, ahoriFina1 Indians of the Gulf coast. En el presente estudio se investigó el desarrollo intracapsular de la especie, de manera que sirva de apoyo para futuros análisis comparativos, así como también permita elaborar técnicas que ayuden a la recuperación de las poblaciones naturales y desarrollar métodos para su cultivo. Las masas ovígeras estuvieron compuestas por 30 ± 3,65 cápsulas (n=4), con una longitud de 18,77 ± 0,36 mm (n=20) y una anchoura de 11,59 ± 0,40 mm (n=20), dentro de las cuales se hallaron 2210 ± 774 huevos por ovicápsula (n=20). El proceso de desarrollo embrionario hasta la eclosión de F. tulipa tuvo una duración de 40 a 45 días, observándose que todos los estadios ocurrieron en el interior de las cápsulas y que tan sólo se desarrollaron entre tres y ocho embriones por cápsula.
