In addition to this version of the directory, you can find updated versions online at www.sotoyomercd.org Russian River Watershed Directory version September 2012 - 1 - Preface The Sotoyome Resource Conservation District (RCD) has updated our Russian River Watershed directory to assist landowners, residents, professionals, educators, organizations and agencies interested in the many resources available for natural resource management and stewardship throughout the Russian River watershed. In 1997, The Sotoyome RCD compiled the first known resource directory of agencies and organization working in the Russian River Watershed. The directory was an example of an emerging Coordinated Resource Management and Planning (CRMP) effort to encourage community-based solutions for natural resource management. Since that Photo courtesy of Sonoma County Water Agency time the directory has gone through several updates with our most recent edition being released electronically and re-formatting for ease of use. For more information or to include your organization in the Directory, please contact the Sotoyome Resource Conservation District Sotoyome Resource Conservation District 201 Concourse Blvd, Ste. The mainstem is about 110 miles long; originating in central Mendocino County, approximately 15 miles north of Ukiah in Redwood and Potter Valley, it flows generally southeastward to its confluence with Mark West Creek, where it makes a sharp turn to the west cutting across the Coast Range and emptying into the Pacific Ocean at Jenner. Two major reservoirs in the Russian River Watershed provide flood protection, water supply storage and recreation: Coyote Dam and Warm Springs Dam. Coyote Dam located on the East Fork of the Russian River near Ukiah, created Lake Mendocino and Warm Springs Dam located on Dry Creek west of Healdsburg, created Lake Sonoma. A diversion from the Eel River through the Potter Valley powerhouse flows into the East Fork and Lake Mendocino. The Russian River is a primary source of drinking water for over half a million people in Mendocino, Sonoma and Marin counties, irrigation water for agriculture, wildlife & waterfowl habitat, recreational tourism, and until recently, a world renowned salmonid fishery. The watershed supports a wide variety of land uses; the predominant land use in the basin is agriculture. The primary agricultural use of the land is vineyards, however there is some land used for dairy pasturelands, small crop farming and orchards. Other land uses include; rural residential and urban development, gravel mining, small areas of timber production, some cattle and horse rangeland, geothermal power production, various light industrial uses, sport fishery and recreational tourism. Approximately 95% of the Russian River Watershed is in private ownership. The Russian River historically provided a highly prized anadromous fishery that ranked only behind the larger Klamath, Eel and Sacramento Rivers systems in abundance. Anadromous salmonid species identified (both historic and present) in the Russian River system include: Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, Steelhead trout, and Pink salmon. The river's anadromous fisheries populations are now in drastic decline, with the disappearance of pink salmon and the remaining species are federally listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Russian River Watershed Directory version September 2012 - 5 - Russian River Interactive Information System (RRIIS) Website Change The Russian River Interactive Information System (RRIIS) website was an educational tool and an interactive communication forum for the public, scientists, agencies, and local watershed groups. Additionally, it included a variety of resources, studies, and reports on the watershed. The original RRIIS website is no longer in existence, but much of the important documents and reports regarding Russian River Hydrology, Land Use, Geology, Wildlife, and Communities have been transferred and are now available on the North Coast Integrated Regional Watershed Management Plan website (below): http://www.northcoastirwmp.net/Content/10416/Russian_River_ Watershed_Background.html Russian River Watershed Directory version September 2012 - 6 - Russian River Watershed Directory - Emergency Services Flood Watch Sonoma County Recorded info Water Agency (707) 526-4768 Road Closures Cal Trans (800) 427-7623 Poaching CA Department of Fish 1-888-DFG-CALTIP (1-888http://www.dfg.ca.gov/enforcement/- & Game 334-2258) caltip.html Sheriff Main Dispatch (alternative Sonoma County (707) 565-2121 9-1-1 for cell phones) Mendocino County (707) 463- 4806 or (707) 459- 7833 Wildlife Injury Fawn Rescue (707) 833-6727 www.fawnrescue.org Wildlife Rescue (707) 526-WILD www.scwildliferescue.org/ Critter Care (707) 462-4032 Wildlife Rescue Team Bird Rescue Center (707) 523-2473 www.birdrescuecenter.org/ (BIRD) Dead Birds West Nile Virus (877) WNV-BIRD Threats from Ca Department of Fish (916) 445-0045 Wildlife & Game Storm Water Please call 911 to report Pollutant emergencies Discharge Non-emergencies County of Sonoma (707) 565-7280 Unincorporated area Watershed basin wide NC Regional Water Dave Evans (707) 576-2703 Quality Control Board City Limits - Storm water City of Santa Rosa (707) 543-3881 Discharge issues City of Cloverdale (707) 894-1701 City of Cotati (707) 792-4685 City of Healdsburg (707) 431-3346 City of Petaluma (707) 778-4303 City of Rohnert Park (707) 588-3300 City of Sebastopol (707) 823-5331 City of Sonoma (707) 938-3332 City of Ukiah (707) 463-6200 Town of Windsor (707) 838-1006 Downed Trees Ca Department of Fish Sonoma County Adam McKannay (707) 823-1001 in Creeks & Game- Mendocino County Yountville Office (707) 944-5500 Russian River Watershed Directory version September 2012 - 7 - Information at a Glance Cities and Towns with Municipal Offices Page City of Cloverdale 30 City of Cotati 30 C ity of Healdsburg 31 City of Rohnert Park 31 City of Santa Rosa 31 City of Sebastopol 32 City of Ukiah 32 Town of Windsor 70 County Government Offices Mendocino County Agricultural Commissioner 47 Mendocino County Department of Public Health 47 Mendocino County Department of Transportation 47 Mendocino County Fish and Game Commission 48 Mendocino County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) 48 Mendocino County Office of Education 48 Mendocino County Planning and Building Services 49 Sonoma County Agricultural Commissioner 61 Sonoma County Department of Environmental Health 62 Sonoma County Department of Public Health Laboratory 62 Sonoma County Department of Transportation & Public Works 63 Sonoma County Indian Health Project 64 Sonoma County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) 64 Sonoma County Permit and Resource Management Department 64 Sonoma County Regional Parks 65 Sonoma County Tourism Bureau 65 State Agencies CALEPA- Department of Pesticide Regulation 22 California Coastal Commission, North Central Coast Office 23 California Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project 23 California Conservation Corps, Salmon Restoration Program 23 California Department of Conservation 24 California Department of Fish and Game - Fisheries Branch 24 California Department of Fish and Game- Watershed Restoration Program 24 California Department of
