The purpose of Association Trans Musicales (ATM) is to promote music of today and participate in its recognition as an art and cultural experience. ATM runs the Trans Musicales and club Ubu. Each year in december, Bars en Trans highlights the french rock, hip hop, pop and electro scene. In the town center of Rennes, bars and clubs become for 3 days the venues of a festival which gathers almost 112 bands, most of them for their first appearance in a festival. The projects are legion, the passion is still there, and after 22 years the festival Bars en Trans has dug its little furrow. Exemplary in terms of activism and independence, it can boast of being a reference in France, and often elsewhere, regarding the discovery of emerging artists. Organized by le Quartz - Scène nationale de Brest and Bretagne(s) World Sounds, NoBorder festival offers a large range of events, from a Fest-Deiz (a Breton local dance) to experimental concerts. Taking place in Brest, NoBorder opens a window into the artistic creation from all over the world, mixing up traditional and contemporary musical approaches. 4 GL∆Z Music : what is at stake ? Glaz Music gathers 20 professional companies based in Brittany, which engage collectively in the international development of local artists and music bands. Promoters, managers, music halls, festivals, editors… Glaz Music represents the diversity of musical aesthetics which coexist in Brittany and the diversity of “making”. Therefore, in addition to being a brand recognized by the music business as “made in Brittany”, Glaz Music supports the quality of this collective approach. GL∆musicZ Sounds from Bretagne Our goals : - Create the best conditions for international cooperation - Promote, on an international scale, the artistic richness of Brittany - Increase the international visibility and the export of artists based in Brittany - Act prescriptively together Partnership Thank you so much to the French Institute, the French Embassy in Beijing (China), the French Embassy in Seoul (South-Korea), and the French Embassy in Buenos Aires (Argentina) as well as the French Bureau export for their «Glaz Music Welcome to Bretagne 2017» support and partnership. 5 Thursday 7 December 9:45 am meeting point at the hotel Mercure centre gare Networking session and lunch at Cancale 10 am to 2:30 pm See the beautiful scenaries of the north Brittany, one of the most beautiful coast in France! • SANTA CRUZ Now&Here Bio EN
SANTA CRUZ / Now&Here We left the elegant French band three years ago with their album “MicrOrgan”. A hinge record which provided an acoustic re -reading of the Santa Cruz repertoire, which in many respects referred to the stylish and soulful American bands like Lambchop, Sparklehorse, Wilco or even the great Neil Young. That was in 2014. 1095 days later, the time of the reunion with the now quintet of Rennes is symbolized by a perfect alignment of the stars around a sixth studio album entitled “Now & Here”. Now & Here, not later and elsewhere. Here and now. “Now&Here”. An album title that does not come out of the blue. Because the world has changed in the past three years. Because Santa Cruz has necessarily changed too. Vassilli Caillosse (guitars), Thomas Schaettel (piano, keyboards), Jacques Auvergne (bass) and Alex Tual (drums) have never been so sharp. "It's our best album, the one we're most proud of," Pierre-Vital Gerard confessed, without blushing. Santa Cruz knows how to pick its cast. “Now & Here” was recorded and mixed by Ian Caple (Tricky, Tindersticks, and so many others). Joseph Racaille (Alain Bashung, Miossec, Thomas Fersen...) wrote the string arrangements and signed a new dazzling collaboration with Santa Cruz on 5 songs. They hired the English string quartet that usually plays for The Tindersticks or Divine Comedy. And in the guest section, we also fnd Mirabelle Gillis, and her stunning and enchanting violin. No less! “Now & Here” is an organic, warm, round, soft and enveloping disc. Gorged with sweaty soul and devilish pop.

  • Vilain Coeur

  • Eyes Wide Press Release PAGES
Leading Ladies star teams up with top musicians and producer for synth-pop single EYES WIDE CASSIDY JANSON seems to be everywhere at the moment. Having 3irst caught the world’s attention with her acclaimed performance as Carole King in the West End musical Beautiful, Cassidy next joined forces with Beverley Knight and Amber Riley in 2017 to create the hugely popular Leading Ladies trio, whose hit album Songs from the Stage led to a string of live appearances on Strictly Come Dancing, The Graham Norton Show, Children in Need, and even The Royal Variety Performance. Right now, Cassidy Janson is busier than ever. April 2018 sees the opening of the West End revival of the classic musical Chess, in which Cassidy stars as Florence – the role famously played by Elaine Paige back in the eighties. As if that weren’t enough, 20 April sees the release of the single EYES WIDE, an instant pop classic featuring a superb lead vocal by Cassidy. EYES WIDE is taken from the acclaimed double album DECADES – which, as its title suggests, explores a host of musical styles across the years. The brainchild of writers David Palfreyman and Nicholas Pegg, DECADES is a concept album featuring an all-star line-up of singers, musicians and actors, including David Warner, Jan Ravens, Richard Coyle, Jacqueline Pearce, Mitch Benn and Sarah Jane Morris. The single EYES WIDE pays homage to the synthesizer pop sounds of the early 1980s. Produced by Ian Caple (Tindersticks, Suede, Tricky, Kate Bush), EYES WIDE showcases Cassidy Janson’s dramatic vocal to the accompaniment of the synthesizer wizardry of David Clayton (keyboardist with Depeche Mode, Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, U2, Simply Red and many more).

  • NEW Apr 2018 Press Release
“This is an epic album … remarkably brave and certainly brilliant. One of the best of the year.” - SPILL MAGAZINE “Outstanding performances … an ambitious, thought-provoking musical drama about the cycle of life.” - RECORD COLLECTOR “Decades is a serious, awesome piece of work. The music and songs are phenomenally strong.” - PETER ANTONY, RADIO CAROLINE Decades is a critically acclaimed collaboration between singer/songwriter David Palfreyman and writer/actor Nicholas Pegg, who describe it as “a great big double concept album with all the trimmings”. Together with producer/engineer Ian Caple (Tindersticks, Suede, Tricky, Kate Bush), they have created a double album which entwines Palfreyman’s music and lyrics with Pegg’s linking narrative, building into a meditation on the fragility of time, memory, and personal history. Lead vocalists on the album include Sarah Jane Morris (best known for singing Don’t Leave Me This Way with The Communards), Cassidy Janson (star of Leading Ladies and the West End shows Chess and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Ian Shaw (twice winner of Best Jazz Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards), Mitch Benn (singer/comedian on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show), and Jessica Lee Morgan (daughter of legendary producer Tony Visconti and singer Mary Hopkin, currently promoting her own solo album Around the Block). Other musicians on Decades include Gary Barnacle (saxophonist on classic tracks including David Bowie’s Absolute Beginners, Tina Turner’s I Don’t Wanna Lose You, and T’Pau’s China In Your Hand), David Clayton (keyboardist for George Michael, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Elton John, U2 and many others), and Terry Edwards (multi-instrumentalist with Madness, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, The Blockheads and Julian Cope).

  • British Indie Music in the 1990S: Public Spheres, Media and Exclusion
British Indie Music In The 1990s: Public Spheres, Media and Exclusion Rachel White . Goldsmiths College Submitted for the degree of PhD Abstract Developing existing theories of public and counterpublic spheres, this thesis moves beyond theoretical ideals to formulate a working model of the cultural counterpublic sphere in which British indie music is understood, legitimated and ascribed value. This 'indie public' is then interrogated with the central aim of understanding the continued discrepancy in levels of male and female participation in British indie music at every level during the 1990s. Given the centrality of the media to contemporary, geographically dispersed publics it is through a discursive analysis of the British music press, particularly the NME and the Melody Maker, that the masculine constitution of the indie public is revealed. The music press is viewed as not just representing or reflecting the indie scene, but as central to its construction as a genre and the discursive production of privileged subject positions therein. The empirical research analyses how discourses of gender, and to a lesser extent race, class and sexuality, inform the key themes and concepts through which the music press both constructs and evaluates artists and audiences in the indie public. The bulk of the analysis focuses the extended coverage of four prominent 90s' indie bands; Suede, Elastica, Oasis, and Echobelly. The findings are presented thematically in four main areas; the construction of authenticity and 'the artist', the construction of stars and the bases of their appeal, the importance of British national identity during the 'Britpop' era of the mid-1990s and the production of fans and audiences in the indie public.
