Kaahanui, a rising senior at McClintock High School currently sits at No. 80 in the Polo Golf Rankings. He is serving as this year’s Player Representative on the AJGA Board of Directors. A Phoenix Phenom Zachary Wright of Phoenix, has had success in his hometown AJGA tournaments. In April, Wright won the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club. Wright comes off a T30 showing at the Thunderbird International Junior where he competed with some of the world’s best junior golfers. This will be his third appearance at the PING Phoenix Junior coming off of a seventh-place showing at the 2010 event. (2011) Finkelstein is a 2011 graduate of Corona del Sol High School and has signed a National Letter of Intent with UNLV to continue her golf career. Finkelstein placed fourth at the 2010 PING Phoenix Junior and eighth in 2009. Sarah Schmelzel, Phoenix, Ariz. (2012) Schmelzel is a 2010 honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American and has compiled eight top-10 junior golf finishes in her career. Most recently, she finished tied for ninth at the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club. Paige Spiranac, Scottsdale, Ariz. (2011) Spiranac is appearing in her second PING Phoenix Junior after finishing 20th in 2010. The University of Arizona commit won the 2009 Stockton Sports Commission Junior Open. Lindsey Weaver, Scottsdale, Ariz. (2012) Weaver is the highest-ranked female in the field at No. 31 in the Polo Golf Rankings. She has had success close to home compiling five top-10 AJGA finishes in Arizona. This will be her second appearance at Moon Valley Country Club – she placed 18th in the 2007 tournament. Most recently, Weaver tied for fifth at the Thunderbird International Junior in Scottsdale. BOYS DIVISION: Trey Kaahanui, Tempe, Ariz. (2012) Kaahanui returns to the field as the defending champion of the PING Phoenix Junior. The two- time AJGA victor is currently serving as a Player Representative on the AJGA Board of Directors. Christopher Petefish, Scottsdale, Ariz. (2012) The Scottsdale Christian Academy rising sophomore will return to the 2011 field coming off of a fifth-place showing at the Laredo Energy Junior at Traditions in April. Zachary Wright, Phoenix, Ariz. (2012) Wright recently won the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club, propelling him to No. 13 in the Polo Golf Rankings. Whether it be on-site professional communications staff or timely results, the AJGA is ready to honor all media requests. At the event, the AJGA will provide: Information about the tournament and its participants leading up to the event Assistance with player interviews before, during and after the tournament A golf cart to make covering the tournament as easy as possible Assistance locating players on the course A recap with results after each tournament round in a timely manner During the week of the tournament, the AJGA will have four communications representatives on hand to assist the media. These media officials will write an AP Style recap and produce agate results each tournament day. These will then be faxed and/or e-mailed to all media outlets. Interviews with AJGA Tournament Directors, Tournament Chairmen and juniors can be conducted before or after every round. The AJGA website, ajga.org, is a tremendous media resource. The tournament website, which is linked from the AJGA homepage, includes recaps, results, list of participants, tee times, live scoring, scorecards and sponsor information. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries.
