    COLLAB CORNER Creative Collabs and Technology in the Time of Coronavirus Margo Garrett oday is May 1 in Minnesota and it should be a sunny day. Like many similar days of late, it looks as if it wants to be sunny. I can see bright azure sky peeping out of tiny openings in a translucent covering of Watteau-esque gray. Perhaps Mother Nature does Tnot want to offend our prevailing states of sadness and fear with the overt gleefulness of her brightest splendors. If so, I thank her for her sensitivity. I simply cannot all at once rejoice in coming spring, but trust that Nature will gradually persuade me by her overwhelmingly opulent gifts of warmth, green, fragrance, breeze, and, yes, even sun, to join her May Day dance. I pray that Margo Garrett by the time you read this in September, we will have found a treatment or even a cure. In the meantime, music, musicians, friends, my husband, and Zoom sustain me. I bought a Zoom recorder some years ago for my students to use to record their lessons and to borrow when they needed to make audition videos. The audio is superior, and the video the clearest I have ever seen. A wonderful little machine it is. So when someone asked me in the last year or so if I used Zoom, I enthusiastically responded, “Yes, of course!” How shocked I was, then, to find myself soon thereafter staring at my own live image in a bingo-like grid on my computer desktop with eight other friends and board members smiling in delight and waving at me! What a wonderful invention! Since then, it is my preferred choice of communication—a telephone all grown up and personal.

    SPARTAN BASKETBALL HISTORY AND TRADITION 1979 NCAA CHAMPIONS The 1978-79 season was truly a magical one for Coach Jud Heathcote and his Michigan State Spartans. Blending a perfect combination of individual ability, enthu- siasm and teamwork, Heathcote formed a cohesive unit that captivated the nation and sellout crowds at Jenison Field House. The Spartans compiled a 26-6 overall record and went 13-5 in the Big Ten to share the league crown with Purdue and Iowa. State steamrolled through the NCAA Tournament, ending the season on top of the college basketball world with a 75-64 victory over Larry Bird and unbeaten Indi- ana State. The 1978-79 squad gathered at Jenison Field House on Aug. 12, 1989, to play one more game against a team of former Spartan All-Stars. On a hot, sweltering night, the National Champi- onship squad, led by Earvin Johnson’s 25 points and 17 rebounds, topped the All-Stars, 95-93, before a sellout crowd of 10,004. 126 MICHIGAN STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL 2000 NCAA CHAMPIONS Tom Izzo repeatedly talked to his team about leaving its mark on the program. The 1999-2000 Spartans did more than leave their mark; they set the standard by which all future Michigan State teams would be measured. Part of being a champion is winning titles, which the Spartans accomplished in winning the Na- tional Championship, a third straight Big Ten Championship and a second consecutive Big Ten Tourna- ment title. Michigan State’s three consecutive conference crowns marked only the eighth time in league history that a team has won three straight titles.

    North Carolina Bapst Secretaries Associaon ʹͲʹͲ ͵͹ǡ ͳ A quarterly publicaon connecng Bapst Secretaries across North Carolina A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT Well, here we are in January of 2020, and from everything I have heard and read, the 2019 NCBSA conference at Fort Caswell was another good one! Of course, you will recall that I was absent, regreully. And as thrilled as I was to be able to spend three weeks in California helping my son and his family as they welcomed a new baby, I cannot express just how disappointed I was to miss the conference. Especially aer having spent the year planning and praying and seeing everything come together in the way we believe had God’s fingerprints on it. Becke Joseph is now 3-months old (wearing 9-month-old clothes!) and is a happy, talkave baby. His sister has finally accepted him into her family and they are all doing well. They asked in a recent phone call if I could come for another visit to help as my daughter-in-law transions back into work, right about the me my son is being sent to Bahrain. So, it looks as though I may be making another trip to the West Coast someme in April and I am looking forward to seeing those grandchildren again. I am especially thankful for the ability to do so and even more thankful for frequent flyer miles! This arcle won’t be highlighng the conference, as I can’t really do that. But I appreciate Angela Cockerham, your president-elect, for taking care of that.
