El Muelle de las Carabelas fue el escenario elegido para que el presidente de la Diputación Ignacio Caraballo presentase al delegado del Gobierno en Huelva, Francisco José Romero, una copia del documento denominado "La Rábida y los lugares colombinos de Huelva. Propuesta de inscripción en la lista del Patrimonio de la Humanidad. 2014", un documento que pretende reivindicar y proyectar al mundo entero la importancia histórica y cultural de esta tierra en la que se gestó una de las mayores aventuras de la humanidad. Una vez entregado con anterioridad el expediente a los Ayuntamientos integrantes de la Comisión Municipal del proyecto -Huelva, Moguer, San Juan del Puerto y Palos de la Frontera-,.a partir de su traslado ayer a la Junta de Andalucía, es labor del Gobierno andaluz promover la candidatura al Consejo de Patrimonio Histórico del Ministerio de Cultura, organismo que será el que la eleve oficialmente ante la Unesco, siguiendo los trámites administrativos del proceso. Sepa el visitante y el lector que no se trata de modelos realizados a partir de una caja comercial ni modelos fieles construidos a partir de planos de ingeniería naval, sino modelos artísticos. Y son artísticos, porque de aquella época, S. XV, no se conservan planos, en todo caso alguna pintura. Es más, la construcción naval de entonces se realizaba por el boca a boca. Los diseños, dibujos y mejoras, las realizaban los carpinteros de ribera, según la opinión de los marinos y navegantes (mareantes) en cuanto a maniobra o maneras en que la embarcación “andaba” o cogía la mar. Sobre la marcha de construcción, adaptaban y daban formas a las cuadernas; esto es, las costillas del barco, dando más o menos curvatura de aquí o allá hacían las modificaciones. La carabela Santa Clara, o La Niña Comenzamos con la Carabela “Santa Clara”, popularmente conocida como “La Niña”. Es un mo- delo a escala 1:15. Los preparativos y la realización del viaje de Colón forman parte del relato histórico de La Rábida, Palos de la Frontera y Moguer, tríada espacial con el tiempo dentro que ha sabido recuperar y potenciar un legado que comparten como una de las señas de identidad que más han marcado su devenir. En el siglo XIX se dieron las condiciones para que el monasterio de La Rábida no fuera destruido, sumándose a los planes de su rehabilitación el gobierno y muchas personalidades de la política y la cultura de España y América. El IV Centenario del Descubrimiento supuso el punto de inflexión hacia la modernidad; desde entonces este rincón onubense, su historia, los edificios vinculados a la gesta colombina, como el modesto cenobio franciscano, la iglesia de San Jorge, de Palos, y el monasterio de Santa Clara, de Moguer, y su entorno urbano y paisajístico proyectan unos valores que son reconocidos por la sociedad en general. Las últimas y recientes inversiones públicas en estos lugares colombinos, especialmente las realizadas en torno a 1992, fueron destinadas a restaurar y revitalizar sus monumentos histórico- artísticos, y, además, a dotar dicho espacio con nuevas instalaciones culturales. Las huellas de Colón, los Pinzón y los hermanos Niño, y las tres naves descubridoras –cuyas réplicas se encuentran en el recinto museístico del Muelle de las Carabelas–, igual que entonces, siguen rememorando en el estuario del río Tinto una de las epopeyas más universales.

This research presents as novelty the geographical location of certain places that were part of the process of gestation of the discovery of America . In addition, it also con- firms the linking of the portuguese Briolanja Muñiz —sister in law of Christopher Colum- bus— with the port of San Juan (Huelva, Spain), and at the same time, offers unpublished data on the boundaries of the estate where the family of the famous discoverer was seated while he managed and organized his first overseas trip . Una de las singladuras más trascendentales en la historia de la humanidad, ya que hallaron la ruta oceánica hacia el continente americano. Así pues, la Fontanilla es el más humilde, pero también el más original y auténtico monumento de los llamados Lugares colombinos. la Fontanilla, que era la fuente pública de Palos, construida sobre un antiguo brocal de época romana y protegida por un templete o tetrapylum, construido con ladrillos en el siglo XIII al estilo mudéjar, con planta cuadrangular y bóveda semiesférica vaída exteriormente y circunscrita en chapitel piramidal.
