The original soundscore by the Grammy-award winning Hart, is based on his recent collaborations with Nobel Laureate George Smoot, draws on the harmonics of the cosmos itself, gathering light waves from the vibrations of heavenly bodies and converting them into layers of sound. Architect Haas, formerly a collaborator with world-renown Swiss architects Herzog &de Meuron, and one of the lead architects of San Francisco’s MH deYoung Museum, has created an interactive built environment, partnering the dancers with transformable architectural surroundings crafted from inexpensive, ordinarily overlooked materials such as recycled cardboard and elastic chord, his sets strike an intriguing kinetic balance between linear and organic forms, and the extraordinary dancers of Alonzo King LINES Ballet grace the stage with incomparable physical artistry.

Vanguard Label Discography Was Compiled Using Our Record Collections, Schwann Catalogs from 1953 to 1982, a Phono-Log from 1963, and Various Other Sources
Discography Of The Vanguard Label Vanguard Records was established in New York City in 1947. It was owned by Maynard and Seymour Solomon. The label released classical, folk, international, jazz, pop, spoken word, rhythm and blues and blues. Vanguard had a subsidiary called Bach Guild that released classical music. The Solomon brothers started the company with a loan of $10,000 from their family and rented a small office on 80 East 11th Street. The label was started just as the 33 1/3 RPM LP was just gaining popularity and Vanguard concentrated on LP’s. Vanguard commissioned recordings of five Bach Cantatas and those were the first releases on the label. As the long play market expanded Vanguard moved into other fields of music besides classical. The famed producer John Hammond (Discoverer of Robert Johnson, Bruce Springsteen Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin) came in to supervise a jazz series called Jazz Showcase. The Solomon brothers’ politics was left leaning and many of the artists on Vanguard were black-listed by the House Un-American Activities Committive. Vanguard ignored the black-list of performers and had success with Cisco Houston, Paul Robeson and the Weavers. The Weavers were so successful that Vanguard moved more and more into the popular field. Folk music became the main focus of the label and the home of Joan Baez, Ian and Sylvia, Rooftop Singers, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Doc Watson, Country Joe and the Fish and many others. During the 1950’s and early 1960’s, a folk festival was held each year in Newport Rhode Island and Vanguard recorded and issued albums from the those events.

Chanson de l’exil, ce concert porté par la voix hypnotique de la chanteuse soudanaise Alsarah, nous amène dans une douce transe. RFI Musique fait le récit d’une rencontre inattendue. Il est près de 16h30 au festival Terres du Son, près de Tours. À cette heure là, c’est presque le début de la journée pour un public qui s’autorise une nouvelle sieste dans l’herbe. Une sieste qui sera bercée ce samedi après-midi là par le concert que le franco-libanais Bachar Mar- Khalifé consacre au chanteur et joueur d’oud, Hamza El Din, et par la voix hypnotique de la chanteuse soudanaise Alsarah. The Water Wheel , "la roue à eau" en français, c’était un disque paru en 1971 par ce musicien nubien qui a longtemps vécu aux États-Unis. C’est aussi le nom de cette création, qui parcourt actuellement les festivals de l’Europe francophone, un concert dont l’intitulé a priori pointu n’a rien à voir avec la connexion immédiate qu’il suscite. Pas besoin d’initiation pour se laisser happer sous quarante degrés, par cette musique volontiers répétitive. Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan are the three sides of a triangle within which music arose through movements of populations. And therein are Cairo, Addis Ababa and Khartoum: laboratories for musical experiments based on traditions influenced by elements coming from other popular musics of the world. Of the latter, jazz has been the most influential. But fertile traditions dwell on the riverbanks, feeding turbulent waves that convey new currents. THE SONG OF THE RIVERS We can listen to the song of rivers and streams and follow the course of musical traditions. The ones and the others have a destiny that seems immutable and which is, however, only a series of modifications “The river’s embankments, the colour of ochre and upheavals.
