Friday. Friday. So good we need to say it three times. Or even better shout it. A very good evening Everyone! We’re there. We’re done. Another week in the books. And once again you made it. Big exhale and what awaits us is rest, recharge and relaxation. But before we start, following is our Daily Recap of major Headlines, the “Good Stuff”, US Snapshots, US Vaccinations, US Variant Cases, key Highlights, as well as key Statistics, Vaccine and Treatment information, US Restrictions and the Back to Normal Index related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Tonight, let’s consider the inspirational words from Aimee DuFresne, who said: Sometimes life hits the dimmer switch, and we think the light has gone out. But it is on. We have the ability to make it shine brightly and last forever. Keep Going. I’m sure we all can relate to thinking about our dimmer switches go down over and over during the last year. Many days that darkness overcame and overwhelmed us. Days when our hope seemed to fade and the promise of a brighter tomorrow was the farthest thing from our mind. But we found a way to get up the next day, push that switch up again and keep moving forward. Sometimes it was just a little push. Just a baby step. But doing our best to keep going, to find a way to keep at least a little light ahead in our focus. And as we have continued along our journey, the light has begun to get brighter and brighter. Just like that dimmer switch, we have kept pushing up and watching the darkness begin to recede. It was and is in us. To keep going. And keep moving. So, let’s keep that dimmer switch heading in the right direction. So be bright. Be a light. And go shine this weekend . 1 CVOB Website individual US State, US County, Global Trending Charts and Data as well as US Vaccinations, US Restrictions and our Communications Archive can be found at https://www.sunknighty.net/. Headlines There are now over 150 million cases of COVID-19 worldwide, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University, a sobering number that comes less than 13 months after the World Health Organization officially declared the novel coronavirus outbreak had developed into a pandemic, with more than 905,000 new infections recorded globally on Wednesday alone. The wave of US coronavirus cases that began in early spring is on the wane, with the daily average of new infections around the country falling to their lowest level since mid-October, but the trend is not equal nationwide, with pockets of the country, including the Pacific Northwest, seeing a surge in outbreaks due to the emergency of new variant strains of the virus. For the first time, US patients between the ages of 18 and 64 now account for the largest cohort of the 37,000 total currently hospitalized with the virus, and with more older Americans vaccinated, this marks the third week that the number of hospitalized individuals in the 65 and older age group has been smaller than both the 18-49, and the 50- 64 age groups. A July 1 Covid-19 reopening plan - like one set out by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday, which targets reopening “100%” by then - is a “reasonable target” given falling cases and rising vaccination rates, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director, said Friday, but cautioning about making specific predictions about what reopening could look like, saying “the virus has tricked us before.” One hundred million adults in the US are now fully vaccinated, Jeff Zients, who coordinates the White House coronavirus response team, said Friday. A figure that represents just under one-third of the total population. A single dose of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine may not generate a sufficient immune response to protect against dominant new variants, except in people who have already been infected with COVID-19, according to a United Kingdom Imperial College-led study published on Friday, finding that those who had previously had mild or asymptomatic infection had enhanced protection against more infectious mutations that emerged in Britain and South Africa. It was anxiety - and not a problem with the shots - that caused fainting, dizziness and other short-term reactions in dozens of people at coronavirus vaccine clinics in five states, US health officials have concluded. People will likely need a booster about 9 to 12 months after their second dose of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine, company president Stephen Hoge said Thursday, and hope that the boosters will not be necessary once the coronavirus pandemic is over. Data on how well the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine works in kids ages 5 to 11 could be available as early as the end of this summer, and if clinical trials go well and the Food and Drug Administration approves it young children could get vaccinated by the end of the year, BioNTech o-founder and chief medical officer Dr. Ozlem Tureci said late Thursday. The Biden administration announced today it will restrict travel from India starting Tuesday, and is expected to issue a 212(f) order restricting entry into the US for foreign nationals who have been in the country within the previous 14 days, a policy won't apply to American citizens, lawful permanent residents or other people with exemptions. The Transportation Security Administration is extending the Biden-era transportation mask mandate, with the rule requiring face coverings on all travelers in airports, airplanes, terminals, trains, buses and boats, set to expire May 11, now lasting until September 13. India reported a new record rise in daily Covid-19 cases on Friday, in the middle of a deadly second wave that has crippled its health-care system and overwhelmed crematoriums, with health ministry data showing there were 386,452 infections over a 24-hour period — the highest daily increase globally, and Dr. Farah Husain, head of the Covid-19 ICU unit at Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi, said the devastating outbreak in the country is “nothing short of an apocalypse.” China health officials say they are going on high alert after tracking fresh cases linked to a new mutation first discovered in India, with the country’s Center for Disease Control saying cities were picking up cases of the variant known as B.1.617 as it called for more stringent sanitation measures this weekend, when tens of millions of residents are expected to travel for the Labor Day holiday. 2 Liverpool on Wednesday hosted Britain’s first business conference since March 2020 and the northwestern English city will on Friday kick off a two-day nightclub event, the first in Britain in more than a year, and an outdoor music festival will take place on Sunday, all events that are part of a government research project to see how mass gatherings can happen safely. The key 10-year US Treasury yield edged lower on Friday following consumer spending data that showed significant jumps in personal income and spending as well as a rise in prices.
