Welcome back students! Ssacred Heart School held its annual Flag Bearer Commissioning Ceremony and Flag Dedication on Aug. 18, 2021. This year, Representative Daryl Deshotel obtained the United States Flag for Sacred Heart School from the State Capitol in Baton Rouge. The school’s staff and students were so honored that it flew over the Capitol and now flies over their school. Many thanks to Mrs. Chressie Jeansonne, Rep. Deshotel’s assistant, for presenting the flag to the school on behalf of Rep. Deshotel, along with a certificate of authenticity from Senate President Patrick Page Cortez, and Speaker of the House Clay Schexnayder. Thanks also goes to Father Brian Seiler, Sr. Sandra Norsworthy, all of the students, faculty, and staff who assisted with the ceremony, and Mr. Nathan Laborde, assistant principal, who played “To the Colors” on his trumpet as the flag was raised. See inside this issue for more back-to-school information.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Francis encouraged new courses of action for parishes to help people understand the importance of Sunday Mass and parish ministries, a top Vatican official wrote in a message. The message was sent on behalf of the pope Aug. 23 to the 71st National Liturgical Week, by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican secretary of state. The meeting, held Aug. 23-26 in the Italian city of Cremona, brought together pastoral workers, religious and priests to discuss ways to encourage the faithful to attend the Sunday liturgy and participate in other liturgical celebrations, rites and the sacraments. In the written message, the cardinal said the pandemic and its restrictions, which had prevented the faithful from gathering like before, underlined the importance of the liturgy in Christian life. But, what happened during the pandemic and the difficulty in resuming liturgical activities, he wrote, “confirmed what was 71st NATIONAL LITURGICAL WEEK. Opportunities for group travel pilgrimages to several destinations

Pilgrimage to the Holy Land - September 14-23, 2021 Join us for a journey of a lifetime on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The Scriptures will come alive as you visit Our Lord’s homeland. It is an encounter that has changed the lives of many pilgrims, and it is an act of faith and prayer. Your spiritual director for this trip is Fr. John Wiltse, pastor of St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Cottonport. For more information, call 337-291-1933 or visit www.holytravels.org/ tour/stmaryscottonport.

Pilgrimage to France - October 1-11, 2021 FRANCE PLUS FATIMA The pilgrimage with Fr. Martin Laird to Lourdes, France has been rescheduled to October 1-11, 2021. In Lourdes, experience the Grotto and Way of the Cross, and visit the Basilica of St. Therese in Lisieux. In Paris, see Sacre Coeur and the Miraculous Medal Chapel, as well as cruise down the Seine River. PLUS: an extra day in Fatima for no extra cost! Request more information by calling 337-291-1933 or visit www.holytravels.org/materdolorosa.

“A pilgrimage evokes the believer’s personal journey in the footsteps of the Redeemer; it is an exercise of practical asceticism, of repentance for human weaknesses, of constant vigilance over one’s own frailty, of interior preparation for a change of heart. Through vigils, fasting and prayer, the pilgrim progresses along the path of Christian perfection, striving to attain, with the support of God’s grace, “the state of the perfect man, to the measure of the full maturity of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).”
