    A short synopsis of the life of Mother Mary Aikenhead Part Two Mary begins to focus on religious life Mary began to think seriously of devoting her life full-time and as a religious to helping the poor in their homes but for the present she felt obliged to help her ailing mother in the management of the household. The Ursuline and Presentation Sisters, whose convents were nearby, were bound to enclosure. Even in the whole of Ireland at this period there was no convent that allowed its members to move outside the enclosure. When Mary discussed this with Cecilia Lynch, Cecilia informed her that she herself was joining the Poor Clares in Harold’s Cross, Dublin. An unexpected, life-changing meeting Then on 30 November 1807, when Mary was 20 years of age, a providential meeting took place at the Ursuline convent in Cork. Mary met Anna Maria Ball of Dublin, a wealthy woman in her own right who was married to a rich Dublin merchant, John O’Brien. She had come to Cork for the religious profession of her sister, Cecilia. Accompanying her was another sister, Frances or Fanny, the future founder of the Loretto sisters. Mary Aikenhead found that she had met a kindred spirit in Anna Maria. Mary already knew from her friend, Cecilia Lynch that Anna Maria devoted a great deal of her time in Dublin to the care of the poor and afflicted. Before leaving Cork, Mrs. O’Brien invited Mary to spend some time with her in Dublin. The invitation was gladly accepted.

Each has its own special grace that prepares it for that work that Almighty God wills it to accomplish. Now that the Congregation of the Passion has its official mandate from the Holy See “to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified,” we can examine what is this grace, what is its efficacy, and what will be the fruits it will reap. Soon, we will see Paul of the Cross take his flight from his aery on the heights of Monte Argentario, and spread the wings of an apostle. It is almost meridian of this fiery sun whose flame will enkindle the world. Paul is forty-seven years of age - the age of maturity, of vitality, the age that produces more thorough and more lasting results than the age of youth. Moreover, he was, by an extraordinary grace, endowed with a rich disposition which never withers with age nor fades with time, but ripens to a richer and more fruitful maturity. He will carry the fire of his zeal undimmed, even to his very last years, and more often than in the preceding pages we will relate one miracle after another.

This year, Representative Daryl Deshotel obtained the United States Flag for Sacred Heart School from the State Capitol in Baton Rouge. The school’s staff and students were so honored that it flew over the Capitol and now flies over their school. Many thanks to Mrs. Chressie Jeansonne, Rep. Deshotel’s assistant, for presenting the flag to the school on behalf of Rep. Deshotel, along with a certificate of authenticity from Senate President Patrick Page Cortez, and Speaker of the House Clay Schexnayder. Amen --Joseph P. Shadle Dear Passionist Family: It is a time of transition. Slowly, grandparents can hug their grandchildren again. Sons and daughters can connect with their parents and loved ones. Friends can finally come together after such a long time. Yes, families and friends are now able to celebrate the significant events of their lives. In fact, I have two family weddings coming this fall. Our own Passionist parish and retreat center ministries, and the opportunity to preach parish missions, are coming back to life. Together, we are now invited back to worship in the name of Jesus at our parish church, participate in retreats and parish missions, and collectively transition with new graces and energy serving our brothers and sisters in need, the crucified of today. These are sacred moments. These moments of transition are not only associated with the past, but we are challenged to create something new for today and into the future, with the help of God.
