Sat & Rotherham Wildlife Trust: Volunteer work day on Blacka Moor 2nd Blacka Moor is on the A625 out of Sheffield a few hundred yards on the left before Fox House. 10am – 3pm Practical volunteer days at Blacka Moor are held on the first Saturday and third Thursday every month. Tasks vary from footpath improvements and access work, to habitat and vegetation management. Gloves, tools, and refreshments are provided, but wear suitable outdoor clothes and boots, and bring some lunch and drinking water if you're able to come for the whole day. Sat Friends of the Porter Valley: Moth Study 2nd Forge Dam café 7.30pm – 9.30pm This is a new topic for FoPV when Ben Keywood of the Wildlife Trust will set up a moth trap close to the Cafe and as dusk falls, will describe the species of moth which could be caught and studied. The number of moths actually caught could give an indication of the health of the valley. Calm conditions are preferable as strong winds and rain will limit the success of the event.

Fri-Sun open days 8th-10th Beauchief Abbey, off Abbey Lane 11.00am – 4.00pm Part of the Heritage Open Days programme. Visitors to the Abbey will be able to see the medieval tower and the 17th century box pews in the tranquil Chapel. Outside in the grounds the original footprint of the Chapter House and Cloisters can be traced. A walk around the Grave yard reveals some interesting grave stones. One under the east window is of a gamekeeper who had an unfortunate accident on April 10th 1758. The Abbey will be open till 4pm on each day refreshments will be available on Saturday and Sunday only. Explore over 800 year of history

Sun Commons Fair 2017 with The Big Draw at Meersbrook 10th Meersbrook Hall 12noon – 4.00pm The Friends of Meersbrook Hall, Heeley Development Trust and the Guild of St George will be offering talks about the Hall at 12 noon, 2pm and 3pm. Visitors will be able to access parts of the Hall to view displays about the history and future of the Hall, artworks by local groups and Sheffield Young Artists and the Ruskin Museum, which will include ephemera once used in the museum. Sun Asda Foundation Sheffield 10k 24th Join thousands of runners through the city’s streets on Sunday 24 September for the Sheffield 10K. After starting in Arundel Gate, the route will take runners along Charter Row and Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of pretty Endcliffe Park. It then continues along Riverdale Road, along Endcliffe Vale Road, close to the Botanical Gardens, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to what promises to be an exhilarating city centre finish.
