La Commissione era stata istituita da Paolo VI, il 19 marzo 1970, con il Motu Proprio Apostolicae Caritatis.2 Quell’organismo ereditava, tra altri, anche i compiti dell’Ufficio Migrazione, stabilito in duplice sezione presso la Segreteria di Stato, nel 1946, e l’Ufficio del Delegato per le opere d’emigrazione, creato dalla Costituzione Apostolica Exsul Familia, del primo agosto 1952.3 Questo, a sua volta, aveva preso il posto dell’Ufficio del Prelato per l’emigrazione italiana, costituito con una Notificazione della Concistoriale del 23 Ottobre 1920,4 sotto il pontificato di Benedetto XV. Prima ancora, San Pio X aveva creato presso la Concistoriale l’Ufficio Speciale per l’Emigrazione con il Motu Proprio Cum Omnes Catholicos, del 5 Agosto 1912.5 Ma l’intuizione di istituire un organismo unitario e centrale per l’assistenza ai migranti di ogni nazionalità risale al Beato Vescovo Giovanni Battista Scalabrini. Egli ne espose il progetto a San Pio X in una lettera del 22 luglio 1904 e, più dettagliatamente, in un memoriale del 4 maggio 1905.6 Nell’arco di questa appassionante storia, la Rivista “On the Move. Migrazioni e turismo” uscì con il suo primo numero nel mese di settembre 1971 e mantenne tale titolo fino al numero 47. Sorry about the changes! organizations here in Russia are brand new, and there is much about them that needs improvement. Due to personnel problems, and in order to improve the organizational structure, the Catholic charitable organization "Caritas," which was begun by Bishop Joseph Werth, S.J., in 1992, simply needed to be reorganized, and Fr Myron, as the Dean of the Vladivostok Deanery, began tackling the problem in January of this year. Among other things, it was necessary to come up with plans for restructuring the entire WSC project and to find new directors for some of the Centers. That is where I came in. I'm the one who is "just beginning". Fr. Myron asked me to take on the duties of coordinating all the Women's Support Centers in the Deanery. I accepted the task even though I had no special training. I am not a doctor nor a psychologist, nor a nurse. I was not even a director of one of the Centers. I am a teacher and a religious sister of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Ann. Among these ‘people on the move’ those whom the United Nations Humanitarian Commission for Refugees has described as ‘persons of concern’ – refugees, displaced persons etc. – have increased at an alarming rate. They are now well in excess of the global population growth rate over the same period Many of these have moved into adjacent poorer developing countries but increasingly many are seeking asylum, either through official United Nations’ channels or through on-shore arrivals, in developing nations.

Anthony Dewhirst) Is it possible that a little boy of 12 could be convinced that he had a religious vocation, to the point of devoting himself to serve the Lord all his life with the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in a religious Institute? Would he have sufficient maturity and knowledge of his own powers and human life to be definitely sure about it? Or would it not rather be autosuggestion, domestic economic problems, or the influence of some good person influencing his choice? We know how modern psychologists would answer these questions. But we can say positively and absolutely ‘yes’. This is borne out by the reality of the facts; for instance, his life, the supernatural gift of a religious vocation, in which grace is grafted on to human nature, and incessant prayer reinforcing his human efforts. Giovanni Ferdinando Angelo Gaddo was born of Carlo and Maria Amiotti at Vercelli, the Casa Borgogna in the Via del Duomo, on 7 February1895. His father was a worker in marble, and this work provided for the upkeep of the family. His mother was a housewife and died early (1903?), so little Giovanni and his sister Lucia (a year his junior) were looked after by their grandmother. But she also passed away in 1907 and the Parish Priest of Crescentino, Don Pietro Gianotti, taking an interest in the family, wrote to Don Policarpo Garibaldi, the Novice Master at Calvario in Domodossola, in order that he might intercede with the Provincial, Giambattista Pagani, to accept the boy into the Institute of Charity.

    Korea Journal, vol. 59, no. 3 (autumn 2019): 5–26. © The Academy of Korean Studies, 2019 Social Contributions of the Catholic Church and Regional Solidarity: Analysis of the Korean-Japanese Conferences of Catholic Bishops Young-Kyun CHOI Abstract This study focuses on the history of regional solidarity among Catholic churches in East Asia as civil society organizations within the axiological frame of peace and social order. This paper endeavors to show the significant role of the Korean-Japanese Catholic bishops conferences, which have developed over 20 years, not only in contributing to civil and social solidarity but also to congeniality between the Korean and Japanese people. The cooperative activities of the Korean and Japanese bishops, which have their origins in efforts to deal with the historical issues between Korea and Japan, are considered purposeful undertakings in support of peace and order in the East Asia region. With the passage of time, the solidarity of the bishops has developed toward solving diverse regional social dislocation issues. The thrust of the bishops’ unified action can be seen in two aspects. The first is the bishops’ view that society, to become peaceful and mature, requires structural changes, and thus the cooperative efforts of the Korean and Japanese bishops have a socio-political orientation. The second aspect is its role as social charity, that is, volunteer work on behalf of the impoverished and social minorities. When regional peace and cooperation are threatened by the self-interests of nation-states, the case of regional cooperation by a religious organization demonstrates how civil society is able to contribute to the progress and peace of a given region beyond the efforts of national governments.

It denotes any movement by humans from one locality to another, often over long distances and in large groups. Traditionally, it has been associated with some notion of permanent settlement, or at least long-term sojourn. In reality, it is a of a more of 'movement' sub-category general concept , embracing a wide variety of types and forms of human mobility.' By definition, a migrant is a "person on the move, either voluntarily or involuntarily, in the person's own country, internationally, or both. Unlike refugees, migrants are commonly considered free to return home whenever they wish because their ' lives are not in danger there.t' Migration has become one of the greatest of the global phenomena of our day. It is, in the words of Benedict XVI, "one of the recognizable signs of the times today.?"     Filipino Migrants as New Evangelizers Bishop Gilbert A. Garcera, D.D. I. INTRODUCTION. I am grateful to His Eminence, Ennio Cardinal Antonelli, for his letter of invitation requesting me to participate as a speaker during this Theological Pastoral Conference on the occasion of the World Meeting of Families, here in Milan, Italy. The topic given me by the Cardinal is on Migration and the Family. I understand that there are two contexts, since there are two speakers on the same topic of Migration and the Family. Bishop Nicolas DiMarzio of Brooklyn, USA will present the same topic from the perspective of a country that receives immigrants, migrants and refugees. I, on my part, will present “Migration and the Family” from the point of view of the families of migrant workers who are left behind in their country of origin. The flow of this presentation is as follows. I will set the foundation of this talk in the context of the mission of the Church and the role of the laity. Then, I will focus on the families of migrants in Asia and in particular, Filipino migrants. I will consider the families of migrants in the context of origin—its psyche, its conditions, the problems and blessings. I end this presentation by recalling the challenges and prophetic words of recent popes in view of the call for new evangelization. I singled out the Philippines, not because I am a Filipino, but because the Philippines has the third largest Catholic population in the world. The Philippines is the only Asian country with a large population of Catholics out of the first ten largest Catholic countries worldwide.
