In diesem Jahr stehen „starke Frauen“ im Mittelpunkt des größten deutschen Festivals für indische Filme und „Women in Indian Cinema“ ist das Thema unserer Kunstausstellung im Oval des Babylons. „Frauen“ sind eine tragende Säule der indischen Gesellschaft, wenn nicht „die“ tragende Säule und was in Deutschland nur wenig bekannt ist: Gleichberechtigung der Geschlechter bei der Bezahlung im Job ist in Indien per Gesetz bereits seit mehr als 60 Jahren geregelt und die indische Verfassung aus dem Jahr 1950 ist wesentlich „Frauenfreundlicher“ als die meisten Verfassungen westlicher Länder. Das heißt nicht, dass es nicht auch nach wie vor Ungerechtigkeiten gibt und Bereiche, in denen Frauen um ihre Rechte zu kämpfen haben, aber die gesellschaftliche Stellung von Frauen in Indien und ihre Lebenssituation ist eben auch nicht so schwarz weiß zu sehen und so schlecht wie es in vielen westlichen Medien dargestellt wird.
