Con temas y elementos recurrentes, su cine ha ido evolucionando al mismo tiempo que retiene sus preocupaciones y su visión del mundo, dando consistencia a una obra a lo largo de cuatro décadas. Este curso pretende explorar su filmografía y, de algún modo, reivindicar el potencial de los mal llamados subgéneros para comunicar temas relevantes. Monte and his daughter Willow live together aboard a spacecraft, in complete isolation. A man whose strict self-discipline is a shield against desire, Monte fathered her against his will. His sperm was used to inseminate the young woman who gave birth to her. They were members of a crew of prisoners – death row inmates. Guinea pigs sent on a mission. Now only Monte and Willow remain. Through his daughter, he experiences the birth of an all-powerful love. Together, father and daughter approach their destination – the black hole in which time and space cease to exist. How did High Life come about? A while back, an English producer asked me if I wanted to participate in a collection of films called Femmes Fatales. At first, I wasn’t that interested, but after thinking it over, I agreed. The project took ages to get off the ground. There was no money. It took 6 or 7 years to hammer out a coproduction: France, Germany, Poland and eventually America. During that time, I went to England and the States to meet with actors. The actor I dreamed of for the lead role of Monte was Philip Seymour Hoffman, because of his age, his weariness – but he died mid- route.

BIFF er i år selve lokomotivet i Bergen Art Festival, som består av åtte partnere innen samtidskunstfeltet. ”På vei mot den 7. kunstart” har vi kalt denne fellesmarkeringen – fordi film er den kunstkunstart som tar opp i seg de andre fagfeltene, så som litteratur, musikk, billed- og scenekunst. Det handler om kvinner som på forskjellig vis kutter kontakten til menn og prøver å stake ut sin egen kurs. PERSONAL VELOCITY er et Engen 18 - 5011 Bergen - tlf. 55 23 03 15 godt eksempel her. Så har vi en del filmer som har ensomhet som grunnleggende tema, selv om de på overflaten handler om noe annet og mer konkret. Og videre: "Grenseland i film" – vårt prosjekt i samarbeid med Statens filmtilsyn - handler i år om moralske panikker vis à vis f.eks.

Much of his work, in particular his scores for the Lord of the Rings films, have received much academic attention; his longstanding working relationship with Canadian horror filmmaker David Cronenberg, however, has not yet benefited from such academic inquiry. Using the films The Brood, Videodrome, The Fly, and Naked Lunch as case studies, this thesis examines the way that Shore uses the arena of Cronenberg’s films as a laboratory for personal musical experimentation. Examples include Shore’s use of electronic synthesizer sounds alongside a string orchestra for Videodrome, implementations of canonic techniques and against-the-grain writing for The Fly, and the incorporation of free-jazz aesthetics in Naked Lunch. Using as sources Howard Shore’s words and what academic inquiry exists in this field, but more often utilizing my own analysis and observations of the music and films, I argue that Shore’s scores incorporate such musical experimentation to work in tandem with Cronenberg’s own experimental art.
