It teaches Muslims about the rise of Islam, and how the Prophet Muhammad was chosen by Allah to receive divine revelation. Muslims also learn of the hardships the Prophet and his Companions faced, and how they eventually succeeded with Allah’s help. Muslims who study the Prophet’s life, learn much more from it than the story of one man’s life. They discover how Allah prepared the Prophet for his mission; how Allah revealed the Qur’an to the Prophet ; how the teachings of Islam fortified the hearts of early Muslims; how a small band of faithful Muslims defeated Arabia’s fiercest warriors; and how the truth of Islam triumphed over falsehood and its many devotees. The Prophet’s biography thus helps Muslims better understand their religion. For this reason, scholars from the time of the Prophet to the present have been very careful about determining the authenticity of sources of the Prophet’s biography. However, not all biographers have made use of the available research.

Studies on Shīʿī aḥādīth on women usually centre on Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ, and little research explores pre-Islamic sacred female figures in Shīʿī aḥādīth. At the same time, there an urgent interest in Shīʿism as well as women in Islam, and a desire for new methods to be applied as well as new questions to be asked. This thesis will analyse Shīʿī aḥādīth about women in pre-Islamic sacred history who appear in the Qurʾān (focusing on Eve, Sārah, Hājar, Zulaykhā, Bilqīs, and the Virgin Mary), and apply the methodologies of ideological criticism and feminist hermeneutics (to be explained in Chapter 1) to explore the subtexts about the essential nature and role of women communicated through these narrations. In addition to exploring the roots of these ideas, it will compare them against the contemporary Shīʿī ideology of gender referred to as the ‘separate-but-equal’ ideology to explore how well this ideology corresponds to Shīʿī narrations.

What is Seerah? Linguistically, it means a path where somebody walks, a direction someone takes. Maseer is walking. Figuratively, it is used to mean a person’s life. The life someone has walked or traversed. The direction in which someone has lead his life. It is used in its linguistic meaning in Surah Ta-Ha (20, 21) where Allaah the Most High says to Musa ‘alayhi as-salaam: [Allaah] said, “Seize it and fear not; We will very soon return it to its former condition. Thus, the way you are, your condition, the way you live life, and even your physical form makes up your seerah. The word is very interestingly a literary term. What we call “biography”, literally translates to seerah. Seerah shakhsiyah à The biography of someone Seerah dhatiyah à Autobiography We are specifically discussing Seerat an-Nabawiyah (Prophetic biography). This is defined by the scholars as everything that has been related to us from all of the occurrences from the life of the Prophet. Some of the previous scholars would refer it to as that from his sunnan and daily practices. All of his characteristics (physical and mannerisms) are part of his seerah. All of his campaigns, expeditions, military endeavours, family life, home life – all of it are included.

A majority of orientalists is of the view that this Madani phase of the Prophet (S.A.W.) was totally a political phase having :io connection with his previous Da'wah in Makkah before Hijrah, They argue that the Kakki period of the Prophet experienced religious and spiritual preaching while the Haoani period of ten years was dominated by political activities. They also allege that the Prophet was simply a reformer in Makkah but a political and military leader in Madinah. The truth is that most of the writings of the western scholars are parts of the Zionists * design against Islam and Muslims. Sirah books authored by orienta- lists served well the Zionism. They influenced tte Muslim minds also to a very great extent. Many a Muslim scholars to say nothing of laymen* believe that the organization of government and state after Hijrah was not a part of the Prophet's mission but it was a God-gifted reward for the steadfastness of the Prophet and his follwers on Islamic beliefs and deeds in Makkah.

    Chapter 1 Lineage of 'Allamah ash-Sharif ar-Radi and his Life In the galaxy of the outstanding Shia Scholars two brothers from an eminent family of the descendants of the Prophet (saw) outshone all the others due to their extraordinary bril- liance in their time. They were al Sharif al-Murtada, who occu- pied the chair of his teacher as his successor to the marji'iyyah of the Shi'ah world of scholarship, and his younger brother al- Sharif al-Radi, acclaimed to be a great genius of versatile tal- ents, still unprecedented in the history of Islamic scholarship and Arabic literature. Al-Radi (359-406/970-1015) died young, much earlier than his elder brother, but left his mark on the history of Muslim thought and poetry, which in no way can be described as less significant than that of any other Imamiyyah scholar who lived much longer than him. He shone on the bright horizon of the fourth century Hijri, regarded as the most extraordinary period of all round intellectual and cultural renaissance in the history of Islam, lived for a short period of forty-seven years but gener- ated enough light to lead human quest for excellence for centuries. Al-Rad'i's parents' lineage came directly from the Imams (as) of the Prophet's Family.
