COMMUNICATING THE APPROVAL OF A STANDARD AMENDMENT ‘Penedès’ Reference number: PDO-ES-A1551-AM04 Notification date: 17.1.2019 DESCRIPTION AND REASONS OF THE APPROVED AMENDMENT 1. Changes to alcoholic content Description and reasons DESCRIPTION For white, rosé and red wines, the maximum limit for actual alcoholic strength has been removed and the mini mum limit has been reduced. Section 2.1.1 of the Product Specification and Section 2.4 of the Single Document must be amended accordingly. REASON(S) These changes to the minimum and maximum strength are being made on the basis of how wines from the Penedès DO are adapting to climate change. The intention is to guarantee the characteristics and typical properties of wines produced in the Penedès DO. 2. Correction to wines produced with the ‘dulce de frío’ (ice wine) method Description and reasons DESCRIPTION In the former version of the specification, wines made according to the ‘dulce de frío’ (ice wine) method had been mistakenly included in the section on liqueur wines. As the Viognier variety has been added, it can also be used for this type of wines.

Annual Report 2011-2012 Academic Year Annual Report 2011-2012 Academic Year 5 Welcome 10 Governance 15 Who We Are 20 Faculty 26 Programs 33 Research 53 Highlights 70 External Relations and Financial Data 81 Appendices 86 WELCOME Welcome from Ramon Marimon, Chairman of the Board Recent economic research by James J. Heckman (Nobel Laureate and member of the Barcelona GSE Scientific Council) and other social scientists has shown that the learning experience in a child’s first six years can play a determinant role in his subsequent human development. A stimulating childhood can raise awareness and self-confidence, which can be great skills in later life. We do not have a parallel analysis for institutions, but I think it is safe to venture that the first six years of an institution can play a crucial role in its subsequent development. The 2011-12 academic year marks this six-year threshold for the Barcelona GSE. For all who have participated, I think it has been a stimulating experience and, as the account of Dr. Eduard Vallory shows, it has also been a successful one. Let me thank all who, in one way or another, have contributed to that success and, in particular, express the unanimous view of the Board in thanking Eduard Vallory for his work as Director in launching the School since its inception and in these starting years, as the Board did a year ago with Andreu Mas-Colell for his leading role as founding Chairman. As with children, successful growth in times of crisis brings additional resilience, and the Barcelona GSE has grown as a graduate school and as a research center through this year of Euro-crisis.

COMMUNICATING THE APPROVAL OF A STANDARD AMENDMENT ‘Cava’ Reference number: PDO-ES-A0735-AM07 Notification date: 22.2.2019 DESCRIPTION AND REASONS OF THE APPROVED AMENDMENT 1. Reduction in the acidity limit of the base wine and the cava Description and reasons Amendment to points 2.c, 3.b.1, 7a and 7b of the Product Specification and point 3 of the Single Document. Description: Reduction of 0,5 grams per litre (from 5,5 to 5), expressed as tartaric acid, of the total acidity of the Cava and base wine. Reasons: In view of the continuing trend for a drop in the total acidity observed in previous harvests, in the 2012 harvest a study was carried out to monitor the total acidity of base wines for Cava, in which more than 50 % of the wines were sampled according to the different varieties in the area. The conclusion drawn from this study is that the natural acidity — once the grapes are ripe enough — is balanced, and the wines do not need to be acidified, unless it is to meet the total acidity imposed by law which is, however, undesirable as it makes the taste of the wines unbalanced.

Integration with existing marine and continental biochronological data allows a robust correlation with the geomagnetic polarity time scale. The resulting absolute chronology ranges from 36.3 to 31.1Ma (Priabonian to Rupelian), and yields an interpolated age of 36.0 Ma (within chron C16n.2n)for theyoungest marine sediments ofthe easternEbro basin. This age is inconcordancewith a reinterpretation of earlier magnetostratigraphic data from the western South Pyrenean foreland basin, and indicates that continentalization of the basin occurred as a rapid and isochronous event. The basin continentalization, determined by the seaway closure that resulted from the uplift of the western Pyrenees, was probably coincident with a mid-amplitude eustatic sea level low with a maximum at 36.2 Ma.The base level drop that followed the basin closure and desiccation does not appear associated to a signi¢cant sedimentary hiatus along the margins, suggesting a late Eocene shallow marine basin that rapidly re¢lled and raised its base level after the seaway closing.
