Each student should pick his/her favorite part (only one) and get familiar with the words. Parts only need to be read, not memorized. At the rehearsal/audition, students will be asked to act the parts with the other characters in the scene. Script: Maleficent SIDE 1 (The FAIRIES transform themselves into peasant women. MERRYWEATHER resists. ALL exit with the bassinet. Sixteen years pass. The scene shifts to the Forbidden Mountain. MALEFICENT, hysterical with anger, enters followed by her GOONS.) MALEFICENT Aaaarrrrggghhh!!! It's incredible! I've been after the Princess for sixteen years. Sixteen years and not a trace of her! Are you sure you've searched everywhere? FUMPFEL Why yes, Your Disgrace. PEST We've searched mountains... BLATHER And forests... STENCH And every cradle for the last sixteen years! MALEFICENT You've searched every cradle? FUMPFEL Yep! PEST Every cradle! MALEFICENT Did it occur to any of you that after sixteen years, the baby might grow up? (The GOONS stare blankly, then, light bulb.) GOONS Hey, she's right! MALEFICENT Of course I'm right, you nincompoops! Script: King Stefan QUEEN STEFANIE Can you believe it, dear? The whole kingdom has gathered to meet our baby girl, Aurora - named after the beautiful dawn! KING STEFAN A wonderful day, indeed. And even King Hubert is coming from afar! (KING HUBERT enters with young PRINCE PHILLIP, who holds a gift.) KING HUBERT Well, if it isn't my loyal and dear friend, King Stefan! And his beautiful queen, Stefanie! QUEEN STEFANIE Why, thank you! KING STEFAN King Hubert, good to see you. And this must be Prince Phillip! (PHILLIP ducks behind KING HUBERT and at the bassinet.) PHILLIP Yuck! I don't see why I have to say hello to some old baby girl! KING HUBERT He's very shy. QUEEN STEFANIE I understand. It isn't every day you get to meet your future bride. PHILLIP Bride?? QUEEN STEFANIE Why yes, for when you grow up, you and the little Princess will be married! Now, what do you think? Would you like to give the baby a kiss? (PHILLIP looks into the bassinet.) PHILLIP: Aaaaaggggggghhhhh!!! (PHILLIP drops the gift and runs back behind KING HUBERT.) Script: Flora/Fauna/Merryweather SIDE 1 FLORA The Queen is right to be afraid, you know. All the magic in the world won't keep little Aurora safe. MERRYWEATHER But what else can we do? FAUNA Hmm... What about no magic? MERRYWEATHER What?!? FAUNA Maleficent knows it's our job to protect Aurora with our magic, and that's what she'll be looking for. So, why don't we take the Princess to the old woodcutter's cottage in the forest and raise her using no magic at all? MERRYWEATHER But a princess in a cottage? Princesses are supposed to live in castles. FAUNA She won't be a princess! She'll be Briar Rose, our little peasant girl! FLORA (getting the idea) Then on her sixteenth birthday, we'll tell her the truth and return her to the palace, safe and sound. MERRYWEATHER Briar Rose? Living in the woods? And no magic? For sixteen years? FAUNA(calming MERRYWEATHER down) Come on, it will be fun! Script: Prince Phillip/Briar Rose-Princess Aurora (PHILLIP spies the scene from afar, then enters. BRIAR ROSE gasps.) PHILLIP I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you. BRIAR ROSE Oh, you didn't. It's just that you're a stranger... PHILLIP I'm not a stranger. We've met before. BRIAR ROSE We have? PHILLIP You said it yourself - once upon a dream. And since we're such old friends... may I have this dance? (PHILLIP bows and extends his hand to BRIAR ROSE. The ANIMALS encourage her.) BRIAR ROSE Well, if you put it that way... (BRIAR ROSE curtseys and offers her hand.) BRIAR ROSE (noticing the time) Oh, my goodness. My Aunties will be worried sick. I've got to go! PHILLIP But when will I see you again? BRIAR ROSE Oh, never. Never! PHILLIP Never? BRIAR ROSE Well... maybe some day! PHILLIP Tomorrow? BRIAR ROSE Oh, no! Tonight! PHILLIP Where? BRIAR ROSE At the cottage in the glen. Goodbye. Goodbye! (BRIAR ROSE scurries off.) PHILLIP Goodbye! Did you hear that, everyone? Tonight it is! (PHILLIP sings and dances off with the ANIMALS.) .
